    Space Hulk Flooring

Been trying to find something to make a realistic floor for a scratch build section of Space Hulk flooring and have come up with this:

Its B&Q steel mesh that comes in 500x250x0.5mm sections at £6.99.Its easy to cut and cheaper that etched brass

I think it would be ideal for raised walkways ? Soon as I`m finished I`ll put some pics up.

Anybody else come across anything else that could be used ?

Basically, you have found the best thing there is. I know other people who have used similar stuff from Halfords, and some have used a soft mesh that is normally used in needlework. A fine steel or aluminium mesh is simply the best choice. It's cheap, easy to work with, and readily available.

    Where'd you buy it? B&Q?

I would like to see what you do with it. Perhaps a short project log is in order?

Ok thanks to a nice helping of Scarlet fever I`ve had some time on my hands.I have been wanting to scratch build a hangar/loading bay for Space Hulk for some time so it seemed the ideal oppurtunity to try out some flooring at the same time.

First off I made some balsa wood supports for the steel mesh. They also give the suspended floor look and leave space for pipes etc.

Next get a pair of decent pliers/wire cutters and get cutting.

Add a Terminator to check it looks ok.Also note the balsa underneath helps outline the floor square for your figure. If you laid the mesh on a flat surface the individual floor squares would be lost

Next step add a hangar floor and break out the plasticard for that smooth loading bay wall effect.

Next check the hangar/loading area is big enough, bring on the Valkyrie.

Add a few plastic pipes under the flooring for that extra bit of effect.

More plasticard and brass now to create a rail to go around the hangar and lips for the edges of the walkway covering up the rough metal flooring edges.

Anyway thats where I`m up to and still loads more to do

With a bit of luck a ramp and stairs to the hangar floor will be next

Looks very nice, putting my 3d hulk board to shame. Which part of B&Q did you find the flooring in? I've wandered around B&Q plenty of times looking for space hulk terrain and never found anything like this except some unworkable stuff from the garden section. They had some very useful plumbing stuff on special though last time I was in though.

I'm kinda building a 3d space hulk board...but I want it for playing necromunda and kill teams. I have most of the tiles built to emulate those in the space hulk game...but I have none of the rules or models so I'm skipping that route for now.

Apparently only the bigger B&Q`s stock it and its in the section with lengths of rope, padlocks, metal poles and iron-monger type stuff.

If anybody is wondering why there are tiny little pictures under the larger pictures I`m at a loss I changed the first pictures for larger pictures with the edit post feature but the original pictures still remain

Perhaps the server takes time to update and they will vanish later ?

The little picture you will notice has a box around it. This is where attached files are normally put (like pics, pdfs, etc).
I've had this happen when I've used an embed code to put the image into the post, but the attachment codes are still there, so the boxed out thumbnails remain.
