    Chaos Mutation - Tentacle

curious how other groups go about using the tentacle.

like the great claw, it says one arm ends in a tentacle and gives the ability described.

however, with the great claw, it says the warrior may not use weapons in that hand. the tentacle does not.

So am I to interpret this to mean, giving someone the tentacle mutation doesnt restrict them from using weapons, thus keeping their full compliment of attacks?

I think RAW that's correct, but you'll find that there are about as many groups that allow the tentacle to hold a weapon as groups that don't. Ultimately, as with most things in Mordheim, I think it's just up to your group to decide.

Personally, I find the tentacle to not be particularly worthwhile if it prevents the model from holding anything in that hand, though. Losing an attack yourself to take one away from your opponent isn't typically going to help you that much, and you have to pay for it to boot.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

I usually play that the tentacle can't hold a weapon. And also, I think that the tentacle is a superb mutation. -1 attack received is great! Especially when your warrior have A2 and S4 with the other hand. In the beginning it may seem like a very expensive mutation... But wait until your mighty blow warrior goes 1on1 with the A1 Strongman Middenheim champion... Then you'll see the mutation from another perspective

Avoid being hit is a better longterm investment than increase attack output.

Tentacle reduces attacks to a minimum of one so no effect would be gained in that particular situation Kramplarv. I am in agreement with Whitwort on the RAW interpretation of tentacle as well. Claw specifies no weapon while tentacle does not, while being a very similar mutation.

hrm, seems to me like I am mixing the game rules with house rules... oh, thats a dud. carry on then youngsters, nothing here to see!

edit: Still I think my example is a good one, and the tentacle would totally be worth it against an A2 Strongman

Tentacle is exponentially better the stronger the opponent, but consider this: with tentacle you get to choose which attack your opponent loses. That means negating a hammer/mace attack or possibly a pistol attack. It certainly has value in a game where almost everyone goes two hand weapons.

RAW I would go even further and say Tentacle gives no attacks... so why would it be equippable with a weapon? Both great claw and extra arm (edit: and scorpion tail) state that you can attack with these. Tentacle does not.

However I would probably play it as -1 attack for opponent and the tentacle can be used as an offhand attack at basic strength.
