Thread: Reaper Miniatures: Bones

    Re: Reaper Miniatures: Bones

Thanks, very interesting tohear about Battlefoam trying to shut them down. I'd already pledged for one, might nab another just to help Reaper. I'll tell my antipodean friends about what a good deal it is, too.

Incidentally the 310k stretch goal has been revealed, it's a set of rather nice fire elememtals, and fire wall and sphere cast in a translucent plastic. Picture is currently down but the concept art lookd very nice. Not what I was expecting though.

Well the goal hasn't been met yet, just revealed. Very cool looking though, just add a red wash and a bit of black drybrushing and they'll pop. Makes me wonder what other translucent minis might be coming up!
I don't think I will get a carry case, I just don't see myself using it. Plus I can't just get every stretch goal option or I'll end up spending a fortune.

Gah, I meant revealed, not met. Edited, thanks for pointing that out. It's what I get for posting at 20 to six in the morning. I was wondering about other translucent choices too, oozes and gelatinous cubes perhaps.

Quick warning - if the transparent material is substantially the same as the bones material, ink won't flow very well on the material. Paint sticks to Bones, but you need to paint before washing (I tried to ink so I could see details better and it just leaked out).

That judge was not happy with Battle Foam there. :P Thanks for the link.

Wow... from the beasts of war video Romeo seems like a pretty nice guy...

Suing a guy in New Hampshire while both Battlefoam and Outrider are both in Arizona ... and using a complaint email from a guy with the same name as the another guy who write positive review on his other business...

Can't speak to the person, however I will let the Judge's dismissal order speak to the company itself.

Anywho, regarding inks and unprimed plastics (and unprimed clear plastics) - I've done a few (not Reapers new ones...they don't even have them in hand themselves yet). Tamiya Clear acrylics stick fairly well. Artist's alcohol based inks stick - but you need to practice to get the technique to control them (very runny). Most acrylic hobby washes either won't stick or brush off pretty easily once they dry. Clear enamels, like those from Humbrol or Testors work great. So do thinned down artist's oil paints.

I really like the two fire demon concepts which they have on there and am looking forward to getting them in person. They should prove fun to try out different techniques with - maybe even going extra cheesey and working a flicker circuit, LED and watch battery into a base so that they light up as well.

Since these have been added to the list, I wouldn't be surprised to see things like clear for air, blue/green tinged for water...perhaps a ghostly white for ghosts and specters as well.

Must admit that the peasants tempted me to look the Vampire level once again. Depending on how far it goes, I may just cave.
We are working on a solution for various reward levels to be made available to non $100-level backers, but are not yet ready to reveal it. Timing is everything on a project like this.

Are you also working on a solution to the import tax issue for UK customers.

Erf. Just pledged a hunj. The pieces will be great, considering that I am moving back towards RPGs instead of TTWGs. And I do love Reaper's minis.

Oh yes partner in europe please please

I have been in on this kickstarter for some time now, loving it. As a pathfinder GM in multiple campaigns I love having options.

The latest stretch goal is rather good, two more dragons currently worth over 60usd for 15. Also the cost per miniature is officially below 1USD, 102 for 100USD.

Got some spare room in your garage? Luckily though, because of the way they are valued - the hit shouldn't be too bad relative to the overall campaign. They will mark it at actual value, but right now...just in the basic Vampire package you are under $1 per miniature. Even with a healthy fee from HMRC, it should still be an exceptional value.

One thing that I haven't looked into though is whether or not you have to actually take custody of the goods in order to receive the benefit of the reduced fees or if Reaper could ship direct to the customers using the customs' number of a company who simply handles the paperwork.

Quick update for any fence sitters...

There are now 105 bones miniatures in the Vampire package plus one metal biker demon chick (who doesn't need one of those for their Chaos army). The most recent additions are these:

The running total right now is just over $320K with $340K needed to gain the two dragons for $15 stretch goal.

They have also posted the stretch goal which will be following that one:

Some ghosts and stuff which will also be cast in a translucent plastic like the fire creatures above. They are the $370K stretch goal and will bring the included figure count up to 110 bones and one metal.

Following those is another "big" tombstone. Current speculation seems to indicate that it could very well be this guy:

4" tall to the top of his wings and 10" wide from wingtip to wingtip. Likely to be a $10 option, just like their big dragon Ebonwrath is.

So far the running total if you were to buy these figures in metal is somewhere around $400 or so (granted it is hard to say for certain as there are 15 new figures added so far).

I'm hoping it is Gauth personally, though plasic Rauthuros would be handy, I just don't have any need for a big demon.

Kinda has to be Rauthorus now with the new two dragons chances are very high they won't put up another dragon so quickly after.

    Re: Reaper Miniatures: Bones

I already have both Gauth and Rauthuros, but to be honest I'd pick up either in plastic if I had the opportunity. If the shape of the tombstone is anything to go by (and it would seem that it is) then I'd say it resembles Rauthuros the most, but I wouldn't count out a plastic Gauth coming later.

I would love to have Gauth in something lighter. When I move mine about - I need an engine hoist. However, just because this one may not be Gauth - doesn't mean he is not in the pipeline. They have mentioned having special figures in mind for the $500K stretch goal (which should likely be achieved) and the $1 million stretch goal (quite possible to achieve).

The various wings from these figures should be helpful to converters of creature figures though. Making a flying demon prince or big tyranid has been a bit problematic in the past. Either spending through the nose for one of the few big plastic kits to steal the wings - or trying to get metal wings to stay put. Being able to pick up a reasonably priced winged creature to cut the wings off to make flyers should be nice - especially with the various new flying rules in the latest edition of 40K.

    Re: Reaper Miniatures: Bones

Reaper guys have actually hinted that 'we are correct, and wrong' on the stone. So my guess would be Rauthuros, but with also some freebies or something. Or maybe he is one of two like with the dragons and giants.
