Klu's plog - Bretonnian, Winter Wood Elves and Random Stuff

    Hi there!

I've been painting and collecting during 10 years but I never had an army and I've never played before. So I decided I gonna change that right now! And what a better form to start an army sharing with people for get opinions, advices, etc. :P

I bought Necrons for 40k but for Fantasy I decided I'll make an army of Bretonnians and Wood Elves as a main armies for play and learn the rules in Warhammer Fantasy. (Khemri and Demons of Chaos attract me also... so I don't discard the idea of make these armies after Bretonnia and Wood Elves).

At the moment, for Wood Elves I have a box of Glade Riders, a Highborn with Great Weapon and a Spellweaver with Staff; and for Bretonnia I have: A box of Knights of Bretonnia (Realm or Errant) and the Green Knight (I really love the miniature and his rules :3) but this Thursday I'll have 2 Damsels (These ones: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...dId=prod780911 ), a Bretonnian Battle Standar and a box of Bretonnian Archers.

I really don't like the metal miniatures, I prefer Finecast resin miniatures (Even with their lovely bubbles) and plastic miniatures but I'm so excited in start an army that I decided to start right now, even having metal miniatures. My idea is make a 1000 points Bretonnian Army for start to know the army on the battlefield and learn the rules of Warhammer Fantasy (I'm a newbie... x3)! After Bretonnian Army, I'll go for a Wood Elves Army, again will be 1000 points.

About the paint, I decided I'll make my Bretonnians with a classic theme but without have a restriction of colours (Leaving the imagination fly with the choice of paints!) and my Wood Elves with a winter scheme (Differents tones of Blues, Greys and... snowed bases, yay! :3)

So... once I told you a bit of my project, let's start with it! :)

nice i will keep an eye out for the up coming models you will produce, if you are unsure make afew test minis or even sketches and color in just
to make sure the result you want rather than spending time then finding out some other color works better also paint a unit at a time dont buy all then paint otherwise
it tends to get boring painting the same model hundreds of times cause you made them all already :P i hope this helps and good luck look forward to seeing your minis

@Discover&See, Thanks so much. The metal armor has a Boltgun metal base, washed with Badab Black and highlighted with Bolgunt Metal and Chainmail. I'll use your wash suggestion for the Green Knight, that mix of Darkangels and Chaos Black can be look really nice!

    @Pililuk, Thank you!

@Corvinus, Thank you! I took the idea from the movie 'Kingdom of Heaven'. The white colour was another option for the Kingdom of Jerusalem but I'm a Hawk Turquoise lover. haha

I really like the Knight's surcoat, it's really nicely shaded.

According to the Bretonnian armybook, "approved" colours for heraldry is white (representing silver), yellow (representing gold), blue, red and black, since these were the most expensive dyes.

I gather you knew this already, but hey.

@Hideous Loon, Thanks! I read something about that but I will use the heraldries only as they are, just heraldries. If I stop in things like that, this project won't have one thing I like, the great variety of heraldries and colours (and one of my favourites colour, the green! :P). Anyways, I appreciate your post. :)

Great work so far Klu! All the painting is very clean and crisp, quite appropriate for Bretonnians especially when you want to show off their heraldry. Good luck with the rest of the army

Re: Klu's plog - Bretonnian Crusader Themed, Winter Wood Elves and random stuff.

    @StormCrow, Thanks a lot, bud!

    ------------------------------------------------------

Today, I started with the Warhorse of the musician. It will be a Knight from the County of Jaffa and Ascalon (The heraldry of Ibelin's home for those who saw the movie 'Kingdom of Heaven' ;D), mostly for break the scheme of blues that I have at the moment with some Red and Yellow colours.

About the knight, It still in pieces because tomorrow I'll buy the new GW glues because mine is half dry (Sometimes I forget close it properly...) and the fine nozzle of the new plastic glue will be awesome for the little pieces of the knights.

Also I bought two little bags of brown moss for the Knight's bases, I think it will look good.

I'd like to post pics of all of this but my camera is out of battery. Anyways, tomorrow I'll try to show you some pics.

Ps: I noticed that I set the Knight's heads in wrong order. The standard-bearer's head should be in the commander's body and the commander's head in the standard-bearer's body... >_<'.But meh... they still looking good anyways, aren't they? :P

    Cheers!

Re: Klu's plog - Bretonnian Crusader Themed, Winter Wood Elves and random stuff.

    Hi there, guys!

How long time... about one week! I've been sick with flu (this weird temporal and its changes... one day is hotter as summer and the next day, colder as north pole! >_<). But well, during this 'break' I thinking in a few changes for this plog, it will be a totally change of direction as to the Bretonnians. It's about the painting of them, nothing about leave them, don't worry, I'm pretty happy and motivated with them. :P

I have to admit the Crusade Theme looks really good and gives another look to a Bretonnian army but... there aren't more heraldries than those I put and some of them are hard to freehand (The lion for example) and It can be too much static because I just have 35 heraldries and no more. Another problem are the Grail symbols, I can't paint the Crusade heraldries on a surface which is blocked by a Grail sign... yes, the way should be remove them but they don't look bad at all and that can be an unnecesary delay and work (I wasted too much time right now and I need to acelerate this plog)

So the change I decided is simple, leave the Crusade theme and paint the Bretonnians using the heraldries from the armybook suggest but using lot of colours more like purple, orange, pink (this for damsels :3), etc. It won't be nothing new but at least it will give me the change to let fly the imagination and have a lot of colours combinations.

Of course, it won't be that change only! The other changes I wanna add to the 'new Bretonnians' are... *drum roll* Rocky bases for add more personality to the miniatures and remove the grass of the horse's legs (They look totally ridiculous even with a normal-good paint...). Also, I decided paint the entire unit together. It's a bit boring paint them just one by one... because as you know, never had an army before, I'm used to just paint single miniatures so I think this will be more faster and with the same result as paint them one by one.

About the wood elves, I'll leave them as the begin... with the winter theme.

And of course, for those who were interested on the Bretonnians with Crusade theme...just say that I'm so sorry. I hope you still enjoying this plog even without it.

Thanks for reading! All suggestion will be wellcome, that's for sure. ^^

Oh btw, I stopped paint for now because I'm waiting for the new GW paints (I feel bad for my wallet...) so... the only I can do is show you an advance of my future Bretonnians.

    The entire unit:

    The new bases:

So... at the moment, that's all I can show. Once I got the new paints I'll start to paint.

    Cheers!

Re: Klu's plog - Bretonnian, Winter Wood Elves and Random Stuff

    Hi there!
Since Monday to today, I've been painting with my new Citadel paints in the current Games Workshop store I go, sadly I couldn't bring them here and I have to wait until Saturday but the 3 days experience was awesome and I'm pretty happy with those new paints.

This is what I've been painting during these days, it still in WIP but it's nearly finished (just a few details more, lights and that stuff) :)

(I cannot paint more until Saturday because Thursday and Friday are festive and the store will be closed during those days.)

About the horse for the damsel I decided that I will use one from the Knight's box instead the one it comes on the blister. I though in paint the bard with two colours and they will be divided in one colour on the left side and the other on the right side (I've thinking in purple and pink) If you wanna suggest colours, feel free to share! I'm open for hear and who knows, even paint with your ideas you gave me for the horse's bard!

And for finish, I wanna show you the little Skaven that I bought the last weekend. :3

Ps: I will reduce the pics size from now, for have a look better and less blurred. Also I deleted my older post with images of the crusade knights for don't confuse with the new theme I have. I'm sorry for the incovenience.

    Cheers! :)

Thank you. Glad you liked it!

I delete the pic because I gonna follow a new free theme (more easy for me and probably more funny because I won't have restrictions in the use of more paints).

    Cheers!

    Another Bret PLOG! Excellent !
Nice work on the Damsel, as about the barding for the horse, I suggest white, with Blue Fleur de Lys'es, and horse fur also white, that will give her some divine look on the battlefield. Additionaly if You have a 5th edition warhorse, I think it will fit her better as they were less armoured(damsels have no option for barded warhorse).
    Good job, and god luck!
My Bretonnians , my other stuff and my terrains

Damsel and Prophetess can have the option for have a barded warhorse. (Damsel: +10 points warhorse and +4 points for barded warhorse // Prophetess: +15 points warhorse and +6 points for barded warhorse).

The reason for use a barded horse is because I don't like the current horse that comes on the blister... it looks more like a pony >_<. So for that, I decided use a barded horse from KotR box, for have a more realistic warhorse and a good coherence with the rest of the army.

By the way, I like your idea of use a warhorse from 5th edition and colours. I remember had seen a blister with that warhorse you say in a store near where I live. I'll check it this Saturday.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll take a look on your Bretonnian plog but I saw already a little of the quality of your plog with that green knight. ^_^

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now, time to share some pics!

I finished the Damsel and for paint her faster of what I'm used normally, I'm very pleased with the result. Now I have to check that 5th edition horse on Monday and if I can't find one on that store that I mentioned, I'll use the one that I said from KotR box.

    The new citadel paints!

The new paint guide and the Empire Armybook

I don't like make publicity about GW or another kind of company but for those who wanna improve their paint skills. I recommend buying it. It will be very helpful for you!

Me, with my ten paint years on my back... and this guide showed me new tricks very useful.

And about the Empire armybook, I just buy it because of the background of the story (I like buy the armybooks from other races just for the background and why not, now I gonna start to play... check the rules). :3

Colours for the bard of the Damsel's warhorse still being wellcome until Monday (Day that I'll start to paint it!) Share your suggestions, don't be shy! :3

    Cheers!

Re: Klu's plog - Bretonnian, Winter Wood Elves and Random Stuff

    Hi there!

A little update for show some pics from the WIP of the Damsel's Warhorse.

I have to admit that I wasn't sure about how it would look the pink at the begin but I'm pretty pleased with the results. It had 50% - 50% of look good or look bad and repaint xD. I wanted to use white or blue also instead pink but I think it would have too much white because of the white fur of the horse (once It's painted) and too much blue because of the clothes of the damsel.

Anyways, I won't use pink on knights so It will give a nice look to the unit.

Hope finish the entire miniature between today and tomorrow.

    Cheers!
