Thread: Forge World Newsletter #298 - Daemon Engine + Blast Doors + Event news

I'm thinking the Butcher cannon is not so much a new weapon, but a new set of rules for heavier autocannons, much like how the guard got the Exterminator Autocannon. Butcher cannons seem like vehicle scale autocannons, for Dreadnoughts and Defilers, maybe predators, while Reapers are infantry scale. It's less about appearance and more about the scale of the weapon.

As for no mark specific models, I see this thing as more a light defiler, and not a heavier dreadnought. It is Soul Forge/ Dark Mechanicum aligned first, rather than god aligned.

Interesting theory about the butcher cannon - I can certainly see it being a possibility. Would make for an interesting distinction betweeen loyalist and traitor predators if the chaos ones turret-mounted a butcher cannon.

But the already underwheelming Predator Destructor would be even more so when compared to a S8 Heavy 4 armed Chaos Predator, wouldn't it?

You say that as if presenting players with new things, that are better then old things they already have models for is a new and entertaining concept?

Well, no one uses the Chaos Predator anyways that I have seen, while Dakka Preds are still useful for Marines.

The Nurgle build is horrid... if it wasn't 210 for a twin butcher nurgle variant... and the MoN tax on an IC, i'd get it. Honestly who is going to ignore 8s8ap4 shots at 36" that ignores damage results of 1,2 and 3, 4 on a 5+, then if it doesnt blow up gets back up on a rerollable 6+ that is as far as i can tell still str8 in cc as the claws arent DCCW so dont drop from 10 to 6 if you lose both of them... so you can pump 4avg insta-marine killing shots into a unit and then charge said unit with 3str8 attacks...

ah sod it, ima order 3, as 2 nurgle with twin butchers each and a tzeentch/slaaneshi with 2 claws for stealth hunting, and abbadon as the hq... is not bad for 905 points.. so in a 1500 game, enough goodies left over to seriously hurt someone...

I don't know if the 'Mark of Chaos Ascendant' qualifies as say the Mark of Nurgle or the Mark of Slaanesh. It says "He bears a unique mark that combines all the gifts", which would indicate he does not have the God-specific marks, only their buffs.
I guess it's up to your group to decide. They really cost a lot of points for an AV12 vehicle.

That is pretty. Looking at all the detail of each part makes me really want one. Are you going to have a project log anywhere with this in?

Great figure (No, AWESOME figure) but the current rules, while experimental, are less than great. WS/BS 3 for 155 pts? :-/
Tyranid players WISH they could have that 5 point discount.

"This kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Monday 2nd April"

    Yeah, what gives?

Personally I'm using the waiting time to build my second Slaughterer and get a few other Blood God-related projects wrapped up, but still...I wouldn't mind that package arriving today!

They are probably building up stock for a general release, but if they have it available, no reason not to send it out to preorders.

I've always thought that the Predator autocannon deserves a small blast. That would make it feel more like a main gun on a tank.

No, no, no, no, no! At least not with the current blast weapon rules...

Give them a split fire mode, so you can actually use BS to hit with their traditional ammo, and a blast mode if you like....

Strangely enough, back when the Predator was designed Autocannon -DID HAVE- a small (1") blast. They were also Str 8 with a 72" range. Kinda explains why it was chosen as the tank's main weapon.

Then the Orks went and ruined it by mounting 2 on every bike. :P

You expect us to believe that a single autocannon is enough dakka?

Some people might find them silly but I love the exorbitant amount of tubes and wires on FW daemon engines (most notably khorne ones). Makes me wish other models like the defiler or obliterators would adopt that style. Hell, even normal CSM could look great with such design; a reminiscence of the RT-era models.
