Ive been playing Nids for a few years now. But never came up with a name for the Hive Fleet. Any suggestions? Most of this fleet is currently on a massive ice world and you can see pics throughout my painting blog below.

My Black Legion

How about Hive Fleet Boreas? It's Greek for the north wind, and bringer of cold. In Latin it's Aquilon.
Very nice work, by the way!
I'd start with a Wikipedia list of things like sea serpents or dragons
1222. It's a stranglehold. Not an Ogryn neck pinch.
1395. Eldar really hate it when you greet them with "Live long and prosper".
1537. My Rogue Trader does not need to announce his arrival with eight hours of orbital bombardment.
1572. The Navigator has Warp Sight. Not Insane-o-Vision.
1594. Flak armor is not just a muscle shirt with the word "ARMOR" stenciled on it.
Jormungandr
Kirin
Cyclops
Tatsu
Orouborous
Caduceus
Ghidora
Godzilla
Gamera
Mothra
Thundercougarfalconbird
Or my personal favorite:
OM NOM NOM
Lovecraft has a few ideas:
Azathoth
Nyarlathotep
Yig
Hashtur
Yog Sothoth (the key and the gate)
and of course Cthulhlu
A few more:
Ygdrasil
Jotun
Janamajaya
Vyasa
Kurukshetra
Marduk
Shamash
Ganzer
Catequil
Supay
.... to name a few. I would look up ancient mythology and find inspiration there.

I went with Phobos for mine after spending some time on wikipedia and ending up on a page with names for the god of war in various different cultures. I think in greek mythology, Phobos is the son of Ares (god of war) and himself is, according to Wikipedia, the "spirit of panic fear, flight and battlefield rout" which I thought was apt.
I think hive fleets could also be named after the system or planet where they are first found by the Imperium. So if you have a name for your ice planet or the system/region it is in, then this could work as well.

Stuff I'm working on:
40k - Pre Badab Astral Claws - Hive Fleet Phobos - *New* Imperial Fists Heresy Era
Fantasy - One nation under Hashut
Look at your color scheme, Sometimes what it looks like can be an indicator as to what it should be called.
"From the fires of betrayal, Unto the blood of revenge, We bring the word of Lorgar, The Bearer of the Word, The favored son of Chaos; All praise be given unto him, For those that would not heed, We offer praise to those that do, That they might turn their gaze our way, And gift us with the boon of pain, To turn the galaxy red with blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods." - Excerpt of the 341st book of the Epistles of Lorgar.

But not one mention of Hastur (chicken)....Not a bad option given his association with "The Feaster from Afar".
Problem with mythological creatures is most of the good ones have been taken by GW already, especially if you want to stick to the aquatic/serpent theme. This Wiki might help, as I'm sure you want the name to tie into the theme of your army somehow (well, I would).
I've always liked Quetzalcoatl as a name for something.

Yeah. Im a huge fan of religions and mythos. I've been scouring Babylonian, Mesopatamian, Norse, Native American, and many others. But c'mon. Om Nom Nom make me hear Gentleman cho'gath's voice and cho'gath sounds perfect for a hive fleet. plus he looks like a lictor anyway.

no, Seriously though, did anybody else see that? It was like a midget, except it was allot bigger, and it didn't scare the piss out of little kids.
