Hive Fleet Phobos

Thought I'd start a new thread as I'm starting a new army (again!), this time spurred on by the wonderful new plastic kits, it's going to be Tyranids.

So to kick things off, here is a quick photo of the different sized things I have:



So far my fleet consists of a Swarmlord, Lictor/Deathleaper, Broodlord and 10 Termagants which are all done and just need the bases finished. I also have a Trygon which I hope to start painting soon. On order I have another 10 Termagants, which I'm using the cheaper "push fit" versions to get enough for Tervigon spawns, as well as a box of Genestealers to accompany the Broodlord.

The main aim of this is to get a force put together and painted quickly, so I haven't been lavishing attention on everything, but I hope that the scheme I've picked will look good once I have enough painted.

I've been looking forward to this log since I saw in other threads that you've been painting nids. I like the scheme, I think it looks good. I look forward to seeing the brood grow.

Thanks for the positive responses. Here are a few (hopefully) clearer photos, although I'm still learning to use a proper camera!

Swarmlord (joins and mold lines very visable :S)


Lictor (1st one painted in the scheme, so looks rough as I hadn't got the technique down)


Broodlord (genestealers should be arriving soon)


Termagants (1st 10 of the push fit ones I need to buy lots of for the planned tervigons)


Next up:
Trygon, 10 termagants, 8 genestealers.

Yeah it's the new kit and the one that made me decide to start Tyranids.

The bone colour is straight forward. Over a spray white undercoat, I mix about 50/50 of bleached bone and skull white. I tried just bleached bone (on the lictor) but it didn't come out as well. I then wash fairly heavily with gryphonne sepia. Once dry, i add some devlan mud into the deeper recesses. I then dry brush another 50/50 mix of bleached bone and skull white on the edges of the plates.

Nice and quick and it comes out looking ok I think, at least for what I want out of it.

Seeing the three painted Tyranids standing next to each other makes me think: "What is this! TERMAGANT is evolving! TERMAGANT evolved into LICTOR!"

Really nicely done, the paintjob is unique without clashing, and ties the force together quite well.
