    Children of Nagarythe (High elfs)

Lo folks, i'm new here but I've been working on a High elf army based on nagarythe for some time. the theme is at this point every model in the force will have a bow or long bow the units planned thus far are two units of seaguard (they represent shadow warrior novices) a unit a shadow warriors (obviously) a unit of ellyrian reavers (Raven heralds as described in the sundering triology) and as many bolt throwers as i can fit in there. (Representing artilery carried in pieces by the warriors). i'm also a little tempted to add few 'Knights of Anlec' like in the sundering triology. (i know they'd have defected with Malekieth but I want to try to combine silverhelms with a few cold one riders i have spare).

I use alot of wood elf minatures since i feel the cowls fit the shadow warrior theme better than the high helms of the high elfs. Most of my units will be made from a combination of parts from the three elven races. The theme will be dark blue and grey (though i considered a deep red and grey, it felt like it'd break the camoflage)

Well lets get started... this is where i am right now:

Second one up close, here I went for a more classic command.
Note that they rank up pretty badly, i'm considering rebasing them to regiment basesand maybe making them two models wider. I also plan on giving atleast the first and last rank shields.

A bolt thrower, not painted by me, and not painted in the theme of the army, i have a few plastic bolt throwers i cna assemble so i'm thinking of dropping this one out. Its the old metal boltthrower (although not the oldest, i have one of thoose laying around too)

Mage painted, i might have to go over the blue details again cause now when i look at it they're pretty badly done. Also considering a head swap to make him more nagarythe.

Shadow warriors, or well wood elf archers but they're meant to be shadow warriors, there are two reasons i didnt give them scale mail legs. One is so i can tell which archers belong in the seaguard regiments, and two is cause i plan on using my shadow warriors as a mordheim warband.

Another mage, the one i plan to use alongside my shadow warrior for mordheim. Possibly one the best games workshop minatures ever imo.

One of my Raven hearlds, they're based on the glade riders but i'll give them cowled heads from the glade guard and sculpt bacl feathers to their cloaks.

Like this one, thus far i've sculted one feather one each cloak, this is going to take a long time.

I'ved got some school stuff to deal with now so it'll prolly be a while before i can update.

Cool idea. I like the second rank archers firing over the kneeling front rank spearmen.

Re: Children of Nagarythe (High elfs)

Yeah i think i saw the idea in an old white dwarf ages ago (pre uk Wd 300), or maybe i'm thinking about that DoW unit that had pikes and crossbow like that.

But now that i have more High elf parts i wonder if the ones in the front rank should have held their spears in two hands like the ones in the third rank. The benefit would be that they would look more braced for recieving a charge. the drawback would be they wouldnt have shields and so enemy return fire would hit both them and the archers. The OoC drawback would ofcourse be that they would be even harder to set up as in combat. Well maybe if i add another unit in the future I'll try it.

Here's a combat hero i've been working on:

    And from behind.

The legs are from the glade guard the chest is from the Cold one knights. I might salvage this hero if i decide to make knights of anlec however. I dont have that many cold one knight knights.

Re: Children of Nagarythe (High elfs)

I'd welcome ideas on how to paint the cloaks (and also the chest peices othe ones usign Wood elf chests).
Either i could paint the leather brown, but that would add another colour to my palette and brown would also make them look more like wood elfs and less like high elfs, or i could paint it in dakr blue but that doesnt feel very leathery, or simply keep it gray and shade and highlight it, but then i'm afraid it'll look to monotone. Ideas?

Well i'm not a quick painter but now i've painted third rank of the first seaguard unit. Well enough to finally glue the cloak on.
Just one more rank and i can start Gsing again.

Black wash is the classic for grey areas but i was worried it'd look to rigid and not enough like fabric. Butonce i've seen the effect i feel that the brown wash seems a litle to dirty for high elves. I'm however considering washing with both colours thinned down. I'll see if i get that done tonight or if its tomorrows project.

Now if you excuse me the green stuff is calling me and i must go

edit: oh and i was considering getting one of these to serve as mage painted as a regular elf ofcourse (though maybe a little grayer skin)

Love the idea Dungen, as those mandrake models are wicked. Only comments are i think you should patch up the robes to make him a little more high elfy and maybe attept sculpting a mouth if you're competent with your GS skills.

I like him bare chested but i would remove the seams and the holes in the robes, as for sculpting a mouth, i'll try if i fail i'm pretty sure i can repair it to the moutless face again.
