I assume it says it's for PC too? First time of my life I click a twitter link, and some blue whale tells me Twitter is in surcharge. Amusing, somehow
Anyway, twitter woes aside, award for the most useless website of the year anyone??

So pleased, thanks for finding that out.

Is it the full series? 1, 2 + expansions?

BG1+ Tales of the Sword Coast + some new content apparently, then one assumes BGII will include Throne of Bhaal and new content as well.

Not sure what the point of this is. The old versions run just fine on my PC. If its just 'prettying things up' and charging for it like its a new game, completely pass.

We get enough remakes shoved into the entertainment industry (to the point that I find most movies and tv shows utterly unwatchable these days since its just regurgitated versions of classics). We don't need game developers doing this. Make something new and interesting - there is a lot of room in the D&D license even with the coming of 5th edition. Lots of settings and ideas that can be explored. While I really enjoyed BG 1 and 2 and planescape torment, something new is vastly better than having the old games reheated and re-served.

I haven't played BG, but I always wished I had. If I can play it with contemporary visuals and a polished UI, it's cool in my books. It might not be for you, but it certainly is for me. So teh point? It's to please people like me.

And it might open the door to Baldur's Gate 3 (providing the remakes sells well enough).

They are updating BG1 to the ToB engine (which means new resolutions, I have a hell of a time looking at BG1 on my enormous monitor in 800x640 or whatever) AND including Tales of the Sword Coast AND including new content in some form or another as well. So I have to completely disagree with you on this, giving me a BG1 with updated graphics is worth the effort on its own, anything extra is lovely.

And as Arnizipal says, they hope if BG1 and BGII enhanced editions are successful enough they can justify making BGIII. So I'll certainly be buying both enhanced editions despite already having my exiting copies in working order. I'll also buy them in collectors edition form if they have them.

We don't need to buy this. We've had it for many years. BG1 Tutu brings all BG1 content (including TOTSC and any mods you want to install) into the Throne of Bhaal engine. Which can then be modded. For free.

It seems to me they are simple repackaging an existing free community product in an effort to cash in on such an awesome game.

I'd rather pay the developers (some of the original team are involved) and the company who own the rights for a sparkly new version if it means a shot at getting BGIII. Not to mention I should be able to just buy it, install it and paly. I have a terrible track record of getting mods to work.

    Re: Baldur's Gate returns!

I've bought BG1 at least twice, and BG2 at least three times over the years due to lending them to people and never getting back or being left in another country when I moved. If they want more money from me they really should actually release something new. Saying that, I am still going to buy it, because BG is awesome.

Well they did bang on about new content quite a bit in some of the news articles so we ought to get something new.

    Re: Baldur's Gate returns!

There's going to be at least one new fully voiced character, I understand, and I would be amazed if there weren't new side quests. It's not going to turn it into a new game or anything, I wouldn't think, but even if it's just a couple of bells and whistles, that all the excuse I need to play through it again in pretty-o-vision just sightseeing for changes. Instant buy for me.

When they say "higher resolution" , do they mean everything is actually higher resolution (so new visuals for EVERYTHING), or is it just that everything is shrinked down, just like Command & Conquer Gold is to the original? Because if it is so, well, it's worthless.
edit: Checking the pics, it seems to have been upgraded to a wooping 800x600. Is it a joke or something? I suspect that new version of BG will do a "bit" better than that :/

    Re: Baldur's Gate returns!

Judging by the screens it is purely BG1 Tutu. Don't get me wrong, that's a vast improvement, and worth buying, but my excitement was damped a bit when I realised that.

    Thats... pretty unlikely.
Keep in mind this is a D&D license, which means it needs WotC's approval. Given that they are pushing 5th edition, and the major changes they inflicted on the Forgotten Realms in 4th edition, they are very unlikely to approve anything that doesn't tie in to the current stuff. A minor project like this is one thing, because its essentially free money to resell an existing product [at least from their perspective]. But a new game is going to have to reflect the current state of D&D and the FR.

    Re: Baldur's Gate returns!

The developers have stated outright they want to work on BGIII if these go well enough and the enhanced editions are being made with WotCs approval so I don't think it that big a leap.

It may or may not happen, regardless in my opinion it is an effort worth supporting.
