Vampire Counts 2400pts, Choir of the dead

    Fantasy Army: BoC
    Ello,

This is purely an experimental list, based around multiple screaming units. As well as my pure love of the Terrorgheist, I love the bestial side of Vampires and wanted to see a list packing lots of screamy-death units. It is 2400pts, and intended for tournement use.

Strigoi Ghoul King- Scabscrath, Dragonbane Gem, Aura of Dark Majesty, Creature of the Night, Terrorgheist

    Tomb Banshee

    2400pts

As you can see, the list packs 3 Terrorgheist, Scabscrath and 2 Banshees. The basic idea was to flood the board with small units of Wolves, thus forcing my opponent to deploy his army first. I can then put the Terrorgheist operating as a trio, to hit the juiciest part of the enemy lines. The Vargheist can go wherever they are needed to inlict some damage.
Due to the sheer number of Wolf packs running about, the enemy will have a hard time working his way through, generally charging and overrunning one at a time. Meanwhile my units are all Flying and so can charge over them with impunity, and bombard units with 6 screams at a time.

Of course the biggest, most glaring issue is the lack of protection on my Vampire. I imagine his death will cost me the majority of the battles. However, not everybody has cannons, and ultimately I can always use the other Terrorgheist as a living shield to catch them first. Plus my speed and firepower should help to remove any War Machines within the first few turns.

What are your thoughts on the list?

I for one would LOVE to play this list!

Here is a list im tinkering with for an up and coming tournie in Bristol just to show you what you could be up against: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...ardmen-2400pts

My only worry would be that if the vampire dies the wolves will evaporate, could you squeeze another level 1 vamp into the list to sulk around carrying a scroll of something? Or even on a horse to lend support - you could convert it as a centi-vampe.

Each of your turns will take too long... If your goal is to make the game unfun to play while your opponent watches you move each wolf unit, then you have succeeded. Why not accept that enemies usually have 7 drops at 2400, and have half as many dire wolves twice as big... Your own deployment will suffer with so much chaff...

Well I also play Beastmen and Tomb Kings, and both of those armies use 12 drop at 2400pts. I don't think I'm being unreasonable in wanting the last drop. I don't expect movement to take very long either if only because the units are so disposable, so I'd have no problem being 'rough' with them. Finally I think I can afford restricted deployment because everything flies, and thus will be able to correct any mistakes during the first turn.

Even so, thanks for the comments. I'm still trying to get an idea of how people will react to the list.

How long does it take to move some wolves around? I think the previous comment is a little silly and snarky, this would be fun to play and play against. The only thing that might make it not fun is the crumble and no one to take control of the army.

As far as movement phase is concerned I don't think you will have to worry about your opponent moaning. Any list that focuses on one phase of the game is going to take longer during that phase, it's inevitable. Yours focuses on the movement phase, getting angles right will be crucial and so moving those wolves around is going to take some time. Not to worry as you have effectively eliminated one phase from your turn, saving loads of time, and reduced another phase to simplistic options (magic/shooting respectively). Even your close combat phase will be short as you will be sacrificing wolves just to get your opponent's units where you want them. If anything I would suggest trimming those units of wolves down to 5 each to get 3 more units of 5.

For a competitive view of your list, it is certainly a different take on the army than what is commonly seen. It is certainly a gamble as if you lose your VC lord it's just about over. Your entire list should crumble in one go, except perhaps the Vargheists. Even if it doesn't crumble, somethings are going to give you grief. Multiple hard hitting units are going to be hard to deal with. Ogres come to mind first with 3 units of mournfangs, multiple 6 man units of bulls and 3 sabretusks running around. each one of them can put a hurtting on everything in your list except the banshees. For them a slaughtermaster is going to wipe them out with a magic missle or vortex as he doesn't have anyone to oppose his rule of the magic phase. Don't get me wrong, I think your list will be a blast to play and will even be able to get some wins against ogres and the like. It just has some hurdles to overcome to do so.

I have to agree with the last two posters, that comment is way off. There are many ways to give your opponent a game they don’t enjoy, and that is not one of them.

OP- Again, I agree with the others, the lack of protection is a problem on the lord…but not the end of the world. I like the list, it’s a bit of a one (or three, in this case) pony, but a fun one none the less. If you do decide to field it I’d love to see some reports on the games.
Mat Ward Fact #64001- Mat Ward has been described as willowy with elven features.
