Wildsnake, guns and gangs. A life in the Underhive.

    Hi there!

I kinda "stumbled" upon the great game that Necromunda is, looking for a game that require fewer models (im a lazy painter!) and a few roleplay elements I like, buying equipment, gaining experience and so on.

This plog is gonna be my all things necromunda log, where I'll post pictures of gangs and terrain, and maybe some battle reports when i get to start playing! I tickled the interest of some of my friends, but I realize I need to make a "guest" gang to keep at home, to convince them to start play, by actually playing a game with them!

And so, I set out to build, scavenging whatever I have in my bitzbox, and a few metal eshers I had laying about for another projet! I'm gonna make an orlock and an escher gang so I can play games at home, and some terrain is needed!

    Orlock Juves

    Orlock Leader

    Orlock Leader

    Escher Juve and Leader

    Escher Juve and Leader

    Escher Leader

    Esher Juve

    Escher Gang

Note that all this is very WIP and subject to being scrapped and/or changed

I like the escher conversions But how do they scale up to the old metal models? They also almost seem out of place since they dont got goofy haircuts

On the orlocks, which legs did you use for the juves? Are those empire state troopers by any chance? They seem abit..er.. Uneasy. Like they dont know how to stand or what to do. So it fits in perfectly with juves at least

Loving that gangleader. Looks really a really nasty and dangerous man

    Keep up the good work!

Re: Wildsnake, guns and gangs. A life in the Underhive.

    thanks for the reply man

the legs and torsos are empire free ompany, and so is the arms. the stub gun is a grot gun, and another is holding a lasgun i cut a little. guy with a mohawk is holding a drawn knife and has a holstered gun. heads are, as you probably see catachans. as for the uneasy poses, yes, i notice when I put the next to old neromunda models. they have old school poses of standing and fireing, and maybe advancing, so a omplete different look than newer plastics. but I think i an make it work

gang leader is catahan legs, free company torso, greatswords head, cadian arms, space marine chain sword (it used to have a IG chain sword but i chopped that off for another model som time ago) and a SM commander bolt gun.

the eschers look much more dynamic than the old ones. I have mixed felings about it, but as you said, GW seems to stick to males only when making plastics. wyches are the only plastics Iv ome aross that fits the bill, so ill have to live with it. i hav shaven off all spikey bits and dark eldar symbols, and made blades look less curved and more imperial, still it shines though that they are more ..."lithe" than the old neromunda gals im hoping paint will sort it out

thanks again for the reply !

Re: Wildsnake, guns and gangs. A life in the Underhive.

Youre welcome I love a good Necromunda log ^^

Advances in plastic molding (and the industry in general) mean they can make things alot more dynamic and less static then they used to. Coupled with the fact that they can now make plstic models as gorgious as the metal ones we have a huge difference in model quality when you put and old next to eachother. Still I find the lack of female models discouraging, specialy when IG regiments to name just one example are supposed to be 50/50 in male and female ratios.... It has in part to do with their niche market though I think. The general rule seems to be that like 90% of their customers are male so they make mainly male models... Or models that guys find cool anyway.

I wont unrail your topic further with the discussion though I think the Wyches can be made to look imperial rather easily as youve shown nicely here I would have only also removed the "shoulder pad" on the one with the sword. It looks off if you ask me

Also, have you done more then "tickle" the interest of your friends? I found having a few friends who play the game makes this an awesome game system. I sadly dont get as many games in as id like when but when we do its a ton of fun! Its pretty straigh forward to play and if they play modern day 40K only has some small rule changes. It wouldnt be to hard for them to start playing tbh And like you said its a very economical game to start playing.

A group of 10 or so models is generally enough to play! For example a box of marauders or catachans (or both) would make a great starting point to make an Goliath or Orlock gang! Id personally recommend a box of catachans and a box with catacahn command. Then they would have special weapons, extra bits for the leader and plenty of spare heads to make some nice conversions! They would only need to go this way if they dont already have spare bits for weapons though. A friend of mine has a pretty big guard infantry army (cadian mind) but hes using marauders and the effect looks pretty neat

And if they dont like to make a custom gang they can always use excisting models they have! For example eldar rangers could easily count as a Delaque gang. Cadians could easily be an enforcer gang and flaggelants could easily be a redemptionist and/or cawdor gang House van saar could be done with cadians or eldar of...well any kind (all eldar have full body suits right?) and if someone has a vampire count army its not a far stretch to make a Scavy gang

Perhaps try and convince a few for a test game when you have your gang(s) put together and see if they like it!

got several boxed kits and a large order of bitz heading my way, (awaiting stock for a week allready...uuurgh) should be enough for a very well equiped orlock gang. I think Ill start with that, paint it. then start making a second gang. also started looking about for terrain, i would like to get my hands on some city sectors and additional floor sprues...but i blew all my hobby cash on bits and kits allready ill have to scratch build some

Hmmm to be honest its hard to make the cities of death buildings work for necromunda. Weve played about 8 or 9 games so far and we found that most of the shooting combat happens on the ground floor, and generally nothing up higher. Our tables lack elevated places and ramps so that might be the problem were having though.... Defenitly add ramps if your buildings are to be used for necromunda. Make them removeable if you dont like them for 40K for example

And renember always! Stratch building is part of this most wonderfull hobby of ours

Re: Wildsnake, guns and gangs. A life in the Underhive.

Another new Necromunda log! Awesome! I like these Orlocks you've made, are you going to use Catachans as the Gangers? The Eschers look cool too but the old metals don't fit in too well sadly (having both an Escher gang and a Wych cult I know the models quite well). Maybe when the budget allows you could get more Wyches and boost the gang using them?

I disagree over the cities of death buildings not being suitable. In the latter days of the campaign I was playing we almost exclusively used them. Mind you we did have a house rule where any vertical surface could be scaled like a ladder. Just put some ladder and ramps in to encourage movement up there and see how that goes for a bit.

On the subject of what to use for what, some people use Space Marine scouts as Van Saars.

Hi astraeos! Yes, Im waiting for my box of catachans and my box of scouts, so many bags, heads, legs and weapons on the scout sprue...and if i wanna bulk up i could probably use the torso as an armored ganger. I know what you mean about the eschers, I love both the series of models, but they have very different feels, oh well I already have a box of wyches, i just made two to test it out and have something to do while i wait for my plastics also a big bag of bits on the way

ive made up my mind about cities of death kits, will deffo get them, but will add ramps and ladders

Cool, oh but the way the Scout arms don't line up correctly when you try to use them straight onto Imperial Guard bodies (tried it myself). You'll probably have to cut the hands off first and switch them around.

Re: Wildsnake, guns and gangs. A life in the Underhive.

I can confirm what Astraeos says about the guardsmen and scout arms intermixing. (tried with both catachan and cadian bodies) The finished result is...wonky sadly. What ive done for my own shotgun wielding gangers (made from catachans) is cut off the scout hand on the shotgun bit. If you posistion the arms correctly you will hardly notice it (or if you patch up the small damage with some greenstuff) go over it with some paint and add them to the catachan arms that dont have a gunstock fixed to it. For another I accidentily cut off the back portion of the shotty and *shrugs* rebuild it with greenstuff, because I only have so many shotguns to equip my gangers with. The model is not painted yet so I cant tell if it looks good sadly

The same would probably hold true for the bolters. Dont even try to equip them with the scout close combat weapons btw unless you want swords Even then, those weapons are huge and tbh TO big for catachan arms.... It doesent look right

Im glad you will be using the cities of death buildings. It might sound like I was against it earlier but the kits are brilliant. Its just that our group feels were missing out the "necromunda feel" because we dont have any ramps... So generally its static people firing from buildings at people who are running around on the ground floor. Were missing the 3D gameplay that the gamesystem has rules for (like jumping and falling down) and whats tbh pretty iconic to the setting! Hmmm that reminds me, still have to add some ramps to my excisting buildings how to fix how to fix....

Nice idea Dannage, I've been looking at those myself on and off for a while actually.

Friend of mine suggested those a whole ago and il have to look into it

I already have plenty of terrain though and with the addition of ramps they should be perfect!

Sorry I derailed the topic though

i never completely cover the models with spray-paint, I just mist them. superfine details have a tendency to "clog up" if i cover the models.

Well, theres always somthing in the works.......

and some bad news, gang leader was messed up by some bad paint, combined with me shaky hands, so ill have to re-do him a bit...and it sucked my motivation to paint a for a bit. but plasics have arrived, so ill have plenty of stuff to play around with
