Thread: A new Warhammer Fantasy RTS

Re: A new Warhammer Fantasy RTS

Id rather see a game akin to mount and blade, albeit more polished and with more satisfying combat, where players fight in a physical manner with the mouse and keyboard and they can gather a single unit from the range of their race and they can upgrade themselves and their unit with skills, weapons and armour. I want the combat to be brutal and steamlined as well as the entire world being open, or at least the old world, with some areas being more hostile than others due to opposing factions and so on. I never really enjoyed the MMO that much.

Then players could then gather under the leadership of either a power NPC on an event battle or a powerful player who has earned enough experience and maybe leadership to become a general. Or in the case of greenskins: call a WAAAAGH!!

Then you would get loads of players leading their own squads forming armies in enormous pitched battles. But Gork help the engine that might be designed for this. And the poor pc's suffering under this.
A boy played in the sandbox with no one to mind him,
When quietly a mixing truck pulled up behind him.
He peeped not a peep, cried out nary a cry —
Just his sandals stuck out when the concrete was dry.

An RTS game doesnt replace what the tabletop does.. because its in real time. Dark Omen was pretty good, would quite happily pay for a new version (hopefully expanded, perhaps with DLC additional races) of that.

Total war would also be pretty sweet if they ever fix the multiplayer OOS problems

I really really really liked Dark Omen and would like a remake. Hell I don't even need new graphics; just make the multiplayer better and add more races.

Would love a new game, but then again I actually liked all the old games, Shadow of the Horned Rat & Dark Omen was awesome, Mark of Chaos was cool, sure had some flaws (characters too powerful imo, campaign could've been better), but it was nice playing as something different than Empire. Age of Reckoning is a game I still play, have a 100 Chosen & 2 other 85+ chars, while not fully following the lore (all classes are equally good no matter if it's a human or a Chaos Chosen), the rvr is still the best in any MMO I've played so far.

I really thought I'd stumbled across a real gem of a game with Mount & Blade but after playing it for a while I just couldn't cope with the motion sickness it caused... Shame really.

I'd second the calls for a re-release of Dark Omens. I loved that game despite wanting to punch Commander Bernhardt in the face. One of my favourite battles was the one with the Brigands. When the ambush was sprung the first time I played that I really realised how out of position my forces were - I was done like a kipper and no mistake.

I loved warhammer shadow of the horned rat. To say that I was a master at it would be an understatement. Before i played it i had never heard of warhammer and it was what got me into the hobby. I loved the feel of that game and the lore has always been my favorite part about this hobby.

    Warhammer: Servant of Chaos
Wherein you start out as a tribesman/woman in some frigid area of the northern Warhammer world, and go about performing quests and such to please the various gods. All the while, you're gathering skills, armor, weapons, and/or mutations and working your way towards leading a horde of devoted followers to crash into Kislev and the Empire.

    Border Princes
This just seems like a decent setting for a Dragon Age: Origins-style RPG. Create a character of whatever race and gather an army to fend off whatever creeping adversary is rushing into the realm. You could probably get by with something grandiose without drastically altering the overall Warhammer setting through your actions.

    Snikch's Creed
Follow everyone's favorite assassin as he goes from trainee to one of the most feared killers in the Warhammer world. Plenty of free-running options and potential for several cameos of famous characters throughout the game. Could be paired up with Shadowblade's Creed for additional wallet-milking.

    Storm of Chaos
RTS. Use the same set-up as before but hire some actual writers to figure out where the story is going. Either go for a different ending depending on what race you're playing in the campaign or do it Warcraft-style and make you go through several races before culminating in some crazy climactic battle.

    Angry Orcs
Using catapults and slingshots, hurl various greenskins at Imperial and Dwarven structures to topple them and crush the inhabitants within.

    Katamari Necromancy
Take control of an up-and-coming Necromancer as he sticks zombies and skeletons together into a giant ball with the hopes of using it to decimate the Imperial countryside.
...and a little help comes in a little glass vial in a gun pressed against her anatomy...

Re: A new Warhammer Fantasy RTS

if they made a total war game of it and it was any good, it could be quite a significant step. Apart from the warhammer fans who'd try it, the total war series is very popular so a warhammer installment in the series would make warhammer known to non-fans as well.

A more satisfying combat than in M&B? It's pretty much the best combat system ever made :/

I also loved Dark Omen, but yeah, Shadow of the Horned Rat was way better. I'd so love a remake. It's the game that made me play Warhammer, I must have played it through at least five times.

Yeah. It's been how many years in the making now? They've barely touched anything but chaos. It reminds me of my days modding Freespace 2, it's been what, 10 years or something and I'm sure Machina Terra and so on are still in the works... I have zero faith this is ever going to be released.

Warhammer: Total war would rock pretty hard.
Installed the old goodie Rome: Total War on my new laptop yesterday - still love it, it's really addicting^^

Now, before any throws a rock or a goblin at me, let me have a word.
I think that a Dragon Age: Origins version of Warhammer, perhaps in Mordheim, or set in Storm of Chaos.
I know that not many appreciated BioWare's try at an "Epic, Dark fantasy setting with no black or white, simply greys" (They failed pretty hard there actually...), but the game mechanics and how it's built, with the small infosnips you get on every piece of armor, trinket or weapon, codex entries and so on... Would be epic in the Old world.
    Cheers

The beta is 23% done apparently; I'm not holding my breath for this mod.

I beg to differ, they're pretty far on Empire too, just look at the Pistoliers posted somewhere at the end of the topic. Besides, Chaos involved a total rework of the human-sized frame to accomodate the burlier models. But yes, I know they're not nearly done, but I wouldn't give up on them.

As for Warhammer: Total War, there's the Call of Warhammer Mod, which looks really good and apparently works too, being at version 1.5 currently...

Ironically, Shadow of the Horned Rat's successor game Dark Omen is what got me into Warhammer.

Their own FAQ states that they are at 23% and the mod has been in development for at least a year now. It will show up eventually (maybe) but not a good while yet.
