It falls under the MOBA genre (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). It's free to play, with the option of spending cash on customization options and unlocking heroes (heroes can also be unlocked by earning point as you play). There are a variety of heroes, with a rotating roster of "free" heroes every week. Each hero has five abilities (typically the first ability is an generic active "auto attack" ability, so four unique abilities generally). As you play, your account levels up. As your account levels, you gain points to spend on the mastery tree of any hero, which will unlock tactics. These tactics can be slotted onto a character to modify the way an ability is used (for example, an attack may now also have a damage over time component to it).
The game is team based, with three teams of 6 competing in different ways (all the usuals, such deathmatch, take and hold, etc.)
I'm in the beta, and it's not great. That said, I still play it when the beta is up because it's mindless, arcadey fun in a Warhammer setting.
Sounds like League of Warhammer Legends..?
Those who know don't care any more, and those who care don't know.
I've been playing in the beta for several months now because I had high hopes for this. I really enjoyed scenario play in WAR and thought that this would be pretty similar but...it manages to be pretty dull.
I played Warhammer Online for 2/3 years. But this is just a stripped down version of their 15 minute Scenarios. Great for 15 minutes... then it gets repetitive.
WarSeers 3rd Company, Tactical Squad 2 - Brother Jaltu Stele
"Every man is a but spark in the darkness"
If only it was.
If league of legends was all about just killing the other team for 15 minutes straight, then maybe.
But Wrath of Heroes just ends up being 3 groups of players smashing heads for 15 minutes. It doesn't tend to be that interesting.
I don't know how many scenarios are in there now, but when I played there was basically just a team deathmatch scenario, and a capture the points scenario. Maybe one other scenario as well, but can't remember. But even with 3 teams fighting it out, it doesn't make the game that interesting.
I think the game runs into problems by calling itself a 3v3v3 game. I kinda wish they hadn't labelled themself as that. Sure, have a scenario that's 6v6v6, great. But there are plenty of interesting scenarios that could've been done in a 2 team environment. Too many people remembering how Dark Age of Camelot worked with 3 factions, but it makes it hard to make interesting scenarios IMO.
It doesn't interest me at all and therefore I haven't tried it, but, to be honest, usually the comments on it are rather positive, I'm surprised everybody here dislike it.

Not Defense of the Ancients. Fail. Plus the charm of DOTA is the dozens of heroes, countless builds, and the intense skill required to dominate at it.
First they under perform with Age of Reckoning. Now they make this Wrath of Heroes junk. They've also canceled Dark Millennium (which I'm pretty happy about since that was going to be a stillbirth.) On the plus side they're going to make a sequel to Space Marine instead (I liked Space Marine). And Mark of Chaos was meh. Blood Bowl looks amusing, but its no Madden.
Just make Dawn of War. The first two were really good. The next two were okay. Can't say I love Dawn of War II. Keep making them better. Dawn of War III. Make it happen.

Ah, tastesI don't give a flying kick about DoW, Space Marines and Dark Millenium
I'd rather they made a (improved) Mark of Chaos 2 or, even better, a third installment to the Grudgebringers series ( Shadow of the Horned Rat, Dark Omen). Of course, for that one, Mindscape would have to pull their fingers from their **** and do something else than the commercial **** they've been doing for years now, or someone else willing to take up the ip... At least those would interest me.

That's not really true. Dark Millennium isn't cancelled per se, nor are they working on a sequel to Space Marine. They are adapting the assets and engine of Dark Millennium to be an action game with multiplayer aspects - in this sense, the game has become closer to Space Marine than WoW, but that's not the same thing.
I've just seen the trailer on the GW website. Is that supposed to make me feel anything other than contempt for the people who would create it? All games have to be flexible with the background material to some extent. This one just flat out ignores the lot. What is the point?
