Ok, so it's time for my first major log. As the title suggests, this log is gonna be about all things sniper. I've always had a (unhealthy ) obsession with snipers and all things snipey. I've assembled a good few sets for this log, and it will include everything from historic, to Sci-fi and everything in between. Anyway, I hope ye enjoy.

The first squad is one which I had assembled for my failed Tau army, but they have been taken over for this. Just ask for any individual pics.

Ok, so here's the 3 bits of GSing that I had to do on the 'Chans. Now please bare in mind that this is the first bit of GS that I've ever truely done.
So here's the first. It's meant to be a boonie hat - however, I do realise that it's abit of a fail.


The next is a hood - again, I know that it sucks.


The last is an attempt at a Ghillie suit - now this is one that I'm really happy with!!!

Just a quick update on how the painting is going. Here's the squad after a rough first coat.

Ok, so have the first sniper finished! Am actually really happy with how he turned out - it was my first time to use the FW weathering Powders, and really pleased with how they came out.
This will also be my first attempt at making a story to go with the models, so be gentle :P

For the base, I tried to make it look kind-of foresty (this link proved very useful http://blog.brushthralls.com/?page_id=3381)

Any members of the Catachan XII Regt that are lucky enough to pass the notorious sniper program are forced to apply their own individual camo to their Snipers Cloak. The chosen pattern that each uses, along with the colours picked, has lead to much sneering amongst their peers.

Guardsman Andre "Squito" Ultov is seen here while his unit was hunting down Ork survivors on the Planet of Barac. Ultov was given this name by his peers due to his signature use of circular camouflage patterns, which, it is joked, look exactly like those that occur from the bites from mosquitoes found all around Catachan swamps.

looking good. I like the camo in the skin.

as for pictures. there are quite a few good tutorials here on warseer. pop a quick search in the searchbar and you should be able to find one.
at first glance i would say that you are taking your camera too close to the model. Hence your camera cant focus.

its better to tkae the cam back a bit and crop the image afterwards. If lighting is an isse. it could help to take your pic outside in the afternoon. outside lighting is very simple and nice for photo's.

Finally you could build a photo studio for your mini's but its time consuming and costs some money.

Guardsman Stefen "Effort" Goulding is seen here taking a shot at a Gretchin who had spotted him. Effort was given this name, because of his lack of will to camouflage things effectively - claiming it was "too much effort". This is best seen through his use of basic 2 tone stripes on his cloak, pants and rifle covering.

OK, so here's the 3rd man! Am happy with how the boonie turned out with paint on it. Also, this model includes my first attempt at Woodland MARPAT - on the boonie!

Guardsman Terry "Shakey" O Neill is seen here putting his name to the test, by using one of the local carnivorous plants as a rest for his rifle. Shakey is known for his skill, and ability to hold his scope on one point for an extended time.

Guardsman Gerard "Hawkeye" Hawkins. Hawkeye is the main scout for the unit, and is renown for his ability to notice the smallest detail, and is an expert tracker because of this. He is seen here following the footprints of an Ork.

Guardsman Ivan "Stitches" Long is seen here scanning for any possible threats near the unit. Stitches got his name from his, somewhat basic, knowledge of medicine - which has led to him becoming the units medic.

Sgt Frank "Ninja" Riley got his name from his use of a full-body ghillie suit, which he often uses to sneak on new members of the unit, seemingly appearing out of nothing.

the one problem I see in the ghille suit isn't a close match to the grass on the base making Ninja standout I know that is the general idea with minis but a snipers ghille suit always reflects the enviroment he/she is in

other than that nice job looking forward to seeing more

I was hoping that nobody would say anything about that....
I was going for a 'mossy' kinda of camo for the suit, but didn't know how to do that base, so just went for a standard grass one same as the rest of the squad.

So here's the next sniper!

Decided to paint the McVey Akosha Nama - and include a decorative base in the mix!!

OK, so a slight update. Here's where I stand with the latest sniper. I've decided to keep much of the colours on the original model - just changing the camo on the cloak. Have tried to paint it as a British Berlin Camo. SO any C&C re that would be ace! (also, the camo is just very rough, straight lines will be done!)

OK, so the sniper is finished. Pics when the glue sets. The only thing I have to say is that, I'm alittle disappointed with how the arms went together. The fix was very tough (IMO) to get right, and resulted in alot of glue spreading on the arms/hands.
