Thread: Carcharodons Astra: A Space Sharks Log

Re: Carcharodons Astra: A Space Sharks Log

Managed to get a bit more work done this week - this time a landspeeder with multi-melta and heavy flamer. I'm going to have two of these in the army when it is finished...

Weathering done with FW weathering powders; that winged lightning strike symbol is a fast attack sign (not the Blood Angels chapter insignia!).

The chasis looks weird in this picture - in real life it is completely normal, not sure what happened with the photo.

Cheers Fizzy - thanks for the support! As to what is next, I've just finished the thunder hammer squad...

... also just picked up some scenic resin bases for the land speeders, so will work on those soon. Also been putting together some WIP tactical marines with bolt pistols and chainswords.

Looking good, you're making me want to paint Terminators. While I have plenty of them that need paint, that's not on the to do list! Gotta get some more work done on Word Bearers and finish the second Custodian before I get to do anything 2+

    Cheers Jericho.

Not much progress on the Carcharodons lately, but managed to paint a few tactical marinesn and took some WIP shots:

Some of these Marines will be armed with bolt pistols and chainswords, which is one of Tyberos' special rules. My plan is to have a real mash-up of Marine armour marks, so that the squad looks less uniform than a normal Astartes unit. I'm going to be adding weathering to every Marine as well.

Big fan of the tactical marines they look superb, and the rest of it looks very nice too. Thunder hammer guys im not 100% on they look like they could do with something a little diffrent to break up the colours slightly. But overall this is fantastic stuff 5*

Right dudes, an upddate for the Sharks.

Managed to finish fiirst half of the tactical squad, which [I]'m pleased with. [I]t uses quite a few random bits, but overall it meshes together I think.

    Combat squad assembled:

    Melta marine:

Random tactical marine - "Everybody down, krak grenade incoming!":

And a close-up of the sergeant - losing it to bloodlust as he powers down a starship corridor:

Next up will be the rest of this squad, which features bolters for some fire support, and uses the FW bolter upgrade bits.

    More progress on the Sharks....

Rest of the first Tactical Squad is now finished - these Marines will be ranged back-up to the combat squad about:

Some close-ups; I used the FW bolter upgrade set for the chain bayonets:

This guy has a Maxmini alternative head, just for variety:

.... And this one is my favourite of the group:

Just done a bit of a rework on the army list, to make room for a Stormtalon. That model has really grown on me.

Awesome work, particualry like the battle damage & weathering, it adds more depth to the minis.

Gotta Love Grey and Black Marines! Looking awesome, everytime I see Carcharadons I'm tempted to paint over my Relictors badges and swop for Sharks!

Thanks Siph, but keep pressing on with the Relictors! They are an awesome chapter as well, with a great background.

Cheers daismith - I thought the weathering added some interest to the grey; when I finished my first ever Shark, from a distance it looked unpainted! So at that point I thought I needed to add weathering and some colour touches to complete the look.

Managed to get some more painting time in on the Sharks, between Elysians and Valkyries, and painted up Commander Tyberos - "the Red Wake"...

(Just noticed a couple of mistakes on the base on the last picture - will have to touch those up...)

Also, I was toying with the idea of adding some scouts to my list - I already have some scout bikers, but might be adding some combat scouts as well - so I painted up a tester in camo:

Great job Gorman, I am going for the Sharks myself but in the Rogue Trader style.

The scout look really good but even if the blue camo fits the grey I would chose a color that breaks it a little. Perhaps sand instead of the base blue and keep the B/W spots.

I love the Space Sharks and your army is really looking nice. Captain Tyberos is such a lovely model and you've done it a lot of justice.

I like the scout camo - it's different and it complements the armour well. If you choose a different way, I'd reckon that a brown hued camo may look really cool.

Tyberos is such a cool model. I really dig this army, very nice work. Space Sharks were always one of the most fascinating chapters in the 40k compendium, along with the Tiger Claws.
