Ah, so this is where everyone has been going wrong. We thought you wanted the best sword, but you actually wanted the best LOOKING sword...

Seriously though, when the zombies arrive I'd take a mace over a katana any day (or indeed any other sword). And I say this as a sabre fencer (hi @ScytheSwathe). Assuming I'm not allowed a shotgun, and that the zombies are slow 'Shaun of the Dead' style zombies not fast '28 Days Later' zombies (and yes, i know they weren't really zombies...)

I think the only place we have been going wrong is in feeding the troll. Jesus, I hope hes a troll. Otherwise that means someone really is that deluded.

Ah well. Arguments on the internet. Like the katana, pointless.

oh come on man... i make one joke and people give me a hard time? How many people in this threat screw around with me already? I must have put in over a 1000s words how katana is the perfect weapon for it's class.

As I've mentioned many post ago, I'm a foil fencer and I was in fencing team in college and competed. My training is for foil, epee, and saber .... but Katana is my favorite weapon that I don't know how to use in a professional level. I feel I'm good enough in the foil and epee in professional level (saber not as good yet). I still feel that if my training and skill as a fencer were as good as Katana, I would choose Katana over a saber in a duel. Just my taste because Katana were also a single or two handed weapon. Saber is one handed and the attack speed of the two weapon will be very different. The cutting power of the Katana and Saber will be different too... I still think that Katana is a sharper tool.

So IMHO.... Katana still beat Saber in the single edge curve blade. I keep using this video clip... because it sums up a lot of Katana advantages. Just picture what Saber can do if it were to go on the same test. However, oh horse back...Saber wins.

I thought about zombie (slow kind or fast in pack like in Walking dead) weapon for fun a lot LOL... it just entertaining. I would use two weapons. I'm right handed... and that would be a one handed mace (as you mentioned) and my left would be a short sword such as roman gladius type... but about 1foot blade, not 2 foot blade. I guess a large hunting knife style.

Katana suck vs. Zombie... blunt weapon to the skull is more effective. I just don't like single weapon (two handed warhammer and such) because sometime a group of them is too difficult to perry your way or if you landed the blow in the chest or arms... the zombie will keep coming at your and the range might be too close.

I want a blunt and cutting edge weapon for perry (chopping arms off) or if I fail to land the killing blow to the head with the mace... I can stab it to the face or cut it up good. Oh and no axe or pick axe... this stuff works better vs. One zombie... but good chance that your weapon might get stuck on it's head.. . . but a mace.... won't.

Nah... pole arms are where its at for fighting zombies. You can poke em in the eye from a good distance away. Check out Nick frosts "danger 50'000 volts" dvd for a free Zombie survival guide. I'd post a youtube link if it wasn't for me being at "work".

    Barring Fire arms etc anyway.....

Slaanghoul. You say you are a professional swordsman. That means you get paid for it. In what capacity do you work?

This is a beautiful thread, I demand that it be encased in amber and shown to the younglings of future generations.

You asked me about my fencing skill and you are being condescending, that's the lowest form of conversation. Seriously you know you are being condescending... why would you even care how much I get paid or where I sell my service. And you asked me professional or amateur... I told you in the post that I was a professional... so I've told you...yet you ask... thus you are being condescending.

We are talking about weapons and you start going personal...btw I own a manufacturing company... yes I live good here in Thailand. I never said I make more than you in your profession or my personal income is more, I say I make more than you in sword fighting....because I know you make zero last year in sword fight...am I right? If there were demand in sword fencing.... I would make ok living....but there isn't.... but my skill level is in professional level. Oh, even if they want to hire me full time for it, I would still say no because I like my freedom of owning a company and my income is sweet... sword play is just that...my hobby. So is playing with little toy "ogres" and muay thai.

    So stop being being condescending.

Ah, and so the penny drops as to why slaanghoul loves his katanas so much. If you aren't a troll that is. Living under bridges and eating all those kids doesn't do much for your digestive tract you know.
