Nugget's Space Marines (slowly updated - pic heavy)

So I have slowly started building my first space marine army over the last few months but now it's time to really give it a go I think. I'll only get about an hour a night to really get anything done and even at that I hesitate a lot lol.

So here's the starting point, I have these models so far:

    Custom built Vulkan He'Stan (WIP)
    5 Assault terminators (built)
    Land raider (WIP)
    Ironclad Drednought (built)
    Battleforce

Nothing's painted just yet but I have a colour scheme in mind, as well as a logo, and a name.

The "Gate Keepers" will be green with bone/grey shoulder pads/secondary colours.
There'll be a lot of weathering and battle damage throughout the army and it will have a swamp base theme with LOTS of water effects.

Here's a quick mockup of the army logo:

It's supposed to look like some kind of gallactic scale gate, which I'll work into the fluff of the guys, but I'm not too sure about how it looks right now...

    ONWARD to the models:

    Vulkan/Character

It's been a looong while since I last posted with my progress. I've been working a lot on my assault terminators and land raider, which took forever!

I also did major changes to vulkan and finished him off. Here's what things are looking like at the moment:

That's all for now, I promise

I've still got a battleforce worth of tactical marines to make and a rhino. The parts that I thought would be tedious with these guys actually weren't that bad, so I'm looking forward to the squads!

    Any feedback is very welcome.

    Thanks very much

I had used the same weathering technique throughout the army and I like how it looks. It's actually a shameful copy of the "buy painted" weathering technique but a little more grey instead of brown:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hpvg2lRlsc

I use the same basic steps, I use all vallejo paints and citadel washes:
    Preshade with white/grey/black
    Transparent coat of escorpena green
Wash with Nuln oil and earthshade mix (though I'm not doing this anymore, Nuln oil looks better)
50:50 mix of escorpena green: dead white for the paint chipping effect.
1:1:2 mix of white:black:gunmetal metal for the... metal. This doesn't actually take that long, but on the Land raider it is a very large area, and painting just inside the lines of the green is very hard to keep good concentration for..

I also use that metal mix to do any metal looking parts (like the side of guns and the vents at the back), I then wash with nuln oil and drybrush with vallejo "silver".

I can do up a step by step tutorial with pictures if you want, but it'll be on the tactical marines... possibly the rhino now that I think of it.

Excellent painting, marking and converting. Love the contrasting points on each model, and the near flawless power weapon shining on the units. Even the basing are a nice addition without distorting the focus of mini's and all in all it looks rather sweet

Only side note I have is the hand holding the staff/long weapon, the fingers excluding the thumb could be rather easily converted to actually hold it, now it sort of hovers there. However its nothing really. Everything looks great.

Re: Nugget's Space Marines (slowly updated - pic heavy)

Thanks for the feedback I spent a lot of time on the thunderhammers and the glow affect from the weapons, I hadn't seen a yellow/red power weapon before so I thought I'd try it out.

I just noticed that I dont have a good shot of Vulkan holding the spear, I might get a better picture tonight... But you're right, it is very loose and I wasn't the happiest with it, but I'm awful at that kind of green stuff work, and it just wouldn't have been doable with my skill level, maybe some time in the future, when I have more practice, I'll give it another bash!
