Hello everyone.
I know this is a stupid question and I have the correct answer to it but I need to ask people with more insight into the hobby than I.
Is it true or false that Codex: Space Marines/Space Wolves can field Stormravens?
In the unlikely event that this is true and you can do it where can I find the article that said it?

To my knowledge there has been no ruling that anyone who doesn't have it as a codex entry can take a stormraven.

I think that the whole point of it being in WD was so that other Marine armys could take them.
They have released a £41 kit so I would think that they would want people to buy it and use it in there armys,without being BA or GK. I wouldn't mind if some one used on as wasn't playing BA or GK.

Nope they can't. But you can be nice when playing against someone and let them field them. They are not that game changing.
Stormravens are majorly game changing. Nothing else can transport jump troops or dreadnaughts nor does any other marine vehicle transport so much so fast so securely.
If you mean they're not overpowered, I still disagree but it'd be opinion vs opinion. But having stormravens vs not having them is a major change in options available for the army.

It was something allowed by most GW Store Managers in their stores when the Stormraven was released.
Basically, if you bought a SR from the store you were allowed to use it in ANY Marine army (including in some cases CSM) as long as you also had the rules...so you'd also need the White Dwarf or Codex Blood Angels.

Yeah, I get it that it was meant to get people to buy the models in the first place, but it's a dirty trick if it gets disallowed a few months later in a tournament.

It was always said that it would be legal for use in THAT store for friendly games...and Managers always said that any other GW event (tournies etc) would not allow it, so it was never "disallowed" a few months later as it was never "allowed" in the first place.
I have one for my Space Wolves, knowing I'd never be able to use it in a tournament...didn't stop me buying it.

Bringing a SR to a battle than doesn't include GKs or BAs just gets messy. For starters both of them are in different FoC slots, have different points values, come with different wargear, and have different options. Short answer, just don't do it.

as the only blood angel & grey knight player at my store i am the only person who has got some for the codex's they are for, plenty of others have brought them for there own armys (eaven 1 done up in the store's desplay as a ultrasmerf........i i mean ultramarine stormraven) but they dont bring them down unless it an apoclipse game. and the only converted one i have seen for other army style is the store-managers one, for his Salamanders, gave it sponson flamestorm cannons

And the general consensus at my store was that the Blood Angel version was the one used for out-of-codex Marine use. The GK has very GK-specific rules and missiles, and taking it as a heavy support it competes with more stuff in other Marine books, so it represents a greater opportunity cost.
No. The point of the rules being in WD was to show off the stats for an awesome new model and maybe tempt a few mire players to jump to the BA/ GK bandwagon. IIRC the point costs weren't even published.
If vanilla marines were allowed to use the raven then they would have included vanilla icons like they did with the drop pods.
No one tries to take BAAL predators or Dreadknights in codex armies, so why the fuss over the raven.
As an aside, ravens are not that great or game changing in practice. A12 is quite easy to break and can often leave the occupants stranded if stranded early in the game.

"The fuss" as I understand it is due to it being included in the rulebooks "mid cycle". That is, if it were very clear that the Storm Raven really was intended only for Blood Angels and Grey Knights and there really isn't any chance that it will show up in the next edition of other Marine books (Land Raider Crusader anyone?) then it probably wouldn't be brought up. But with it being a "Marine" model with the idea that GW would really like to sell as many of them as they can then there needs to be a really good reason for them not to be included in the next iteration of any particular Marine book.
AFAIK the Baal Predator goes back to 2nd editoin (I started playing in 3rd) and hasn't migrated to other books. And the Dreadknight is a completely new unit (although it is somewhat similar, at least conceptually, to the Penitent Engines from the Witch Hunters book), so I am unconvinced that such a unit couldn't eventually find its way into other Marine armies...although I think it would be more of a stretch.
Firstly the points were costed, but it does say that it's a BA vehicle, and the fact that the rules for some of it's options were in the BA dex. This is pre GK, and they way it is written, it implies that only BA use them. And I think the reason GK got them was because *** **** thought that GK were underpowered when he wrote the codex.
I don't know anything about the article under discussion, but the Blood Angels codex itself notes that Stormravens are used by Grey Knights.
But no one tried to include thunder wolf cavalry after the space wolf release, neither did space wolf players try to incorporate the newer space marine toys - for example.
In fact Dark Angels players use the point costs and rules listed in their dang old codex instead of the updated rules/ costs for the same equipment in the newer marine books.
My point is that they only printed the rules on WD, not a "Chapter Approved" to say that it's open to all chapters and to say otherwise is against the "rules" as written and intended.
BAAL preds only got rules this edition as the flame storm cannon armament was only recently created (with the latest vanilla codex IIRC) and I'm pretty sure they never had a scoring tank, perhaps there is confusion with lucifer pattern engines?
I meant no disrespect about the "fuss" comment by the way, I meant to say that the raven is not the be all and end all and there is plenty of stuff/ options unavailable to the special chapters that not having it isn't a game breaker.

The Baal Pred showed up in 3rd Edition. The Flamestorm Cannon option is new, obviously. The tank itself is not.
