    Re: Autumn of Fliers

Well, beasts of war just said necrons second wave is out may 5th, notice what's missing? :

Our information suggests that the release will include the:

    Triarch Stalker
    Tomb Blade
    Canoptek Wraith
    Canoptek Spyder
    Nemesor Zahndrekh
    Vargard Obyron
    Illuminor Szeras
    Destroyer Lord Upgrade Pack
    Heavy Destroyer Upgrade Pack

So it wouldnt surprise me if the night scythe/doom scythe will be kept back for this flier release instead.

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

    Summary:

    Fliers missing from existing codex's

    - Void Raven (Dark Eldar)
    - Vendetta (guard)
    - Night Scythe and partner (Necrons)
    - Harpy (Tyranids)

    Rumoured:
Flier for Marines. - Storm hawk?
    Flier for Eldar.
    Flier for Tau.
Flier for Orks. - Thanks Wes.

    Additional consideration:
    Hydra for guard.

    Already released:
    - Valkyrie,
    - Storm Raven
    - Razorwing

I would guess, given the four kits a month guideline that the Harpy, Night Scythe, Marines and Void Raven would naturally all fit into a fliers month. Given the rumours regarding the marines flier, I would guess that it will also be available to CSM so immediately be a kit for both factions (double the use of the sprues) with possibly the void raven being dual kit for use with the Craftworld Eldar (?) in the same way the CSM land raider is with the loyalists.

Also, expands 6th Ed in a new way to jazz up the game and make everyone need to get fliers for an edition. Similarly, a fliers release next year to reinvigorate all armies would be a good way to maintain 6ths momentum.

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

One thing that concerns me about this "AUTUMN OF FLIERS" thing, is how do you shoot doen a flier without another flier? Are they going to introduce special rules for certain weapons? Will thry introduce new weapons (flak cannons, SAM Missles etc)

dont get me wrong, this could be really good for the game. and i cant wait to see the new SM kit, and the Ork ones. But it could be horribly implemented.

Adding in a new element in the rock-papper-scissor environment could prove low point games very challenging since either you specialise and either win or lose before game has begun (more or less) or diversify and end up in a slight disadvantage against all specialised lists.

Don't forget the rumored Ork Fighta. I'd put that into the list instead of either the Harpy or the SM flier, which being SM, works fine as a more stand-alone release, likely with a Marine codex of some flavor.
As for the Vendetta, don't count on anything for it. It was a late addition variant to the valkyrie, and is easy to convert or get the FW conversion kit for the guns. At most, maybe a finecast port of the FW kit.
Tau flier would be good for a nice centerpiece model to go along with their book, if they don't come out with a greater knarloc. Same with an Eldar flier. Better suited to tie into a book.
Void Raven, Necron Scythe, Ork Fighta, and Hydra(/Griffon?) would make the most sense for a fliers themed release. All have books that are already out, are a diverse mix of models appearance wise, and have rules already (except the Ork Fighta, but Orks are popular and a set of WD rules would fix it up fine.

I just want to see jump troops be able to attack the fliers and smack them out of the air.
As for an Autumn of Fliers, I'm still not able to believe it yet. Seems an awful lot of diversity in releases for a short time.

Can't a monger just drop a hint in a related thread?

Also remember, GW doesn't necessarily have to have it in a Codex in order to release it. They could release a model for something before the actual Codex comes out, particularly if they're going to release an Autumn bunch and add an Eldar flier to that, just for the sake of selling Fliers.

Two words is not a hint. Ork Koptas what? Better to not post at all.

The delightful thing about this type of posting is that it is never wrong.

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

Well, since 6th ed is around the corner and will remove the old starter set with the koptas, it would make sense to release them separately.

Sorry if this repeats any info from the rest of the thread as I haven't had time to read it all - just skimmed the last page but I can confirm the existence of the Ork flier. No idea what it is for certain but there are boxes on the shelves of the GW distribution centre containing what appeared to be an Ork aircraft - I assume this means we will see it in the next few months!

(please note: I did not get a close look at this and merely saw it on a shelf at a distance - I did also see Necron wraiths and tomb spiders though and the cover of the next white dwarf - with a large Necron on it!)

A plastic Ork Warkopta would be very nice, and very unexpected. Dammit, now I'm actually curious.

Can you tell us what color the flier was? Did it appear to have a turret on the back or no?

Glad to hear some confirmation on the Ork flier front. Ork kits are always lovely to see.

Sadly not - I was rather a way form said box. I'm not even 100% sure it was orky tbh - I'm saying it was based on the shape - very similar to Ork aircraft from FW and the box colour being the usual Ork yellow. My money is on Orks but there's an outside chance on another guard flier I guess. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Guard boxes are more blue than yellow, so I suspect you are right that it is an Ork vehicle.

Ork Fighta, Guard Fighter, either way I win. If it was guard, my friend wins too. Otherwise, an Ork Fighta would give them a second centerpiece model, and a flier to boot.

As for Autumn of fliers, I can't really see a release slot for them in the autumn to be honest. I'd maybe say they would be better suited to release along the edition book, to go with new flier rules in the main book, or maybe in December, for various races to get a cool large kit for christmas, like last year saw a couple of monsters for Fantasy in december.
