I wouldn't mind owning my own 40k command & conquer Orca, with the engines angled down it looks pretty sweet
The Ultramarine paint scheme probably doesn't do the model justice, when people paint their own and add weathering effects I bet the general opinion of the kit will improve
I love the necron scythe... Gonna buy 7!![]()
I actually quite like the Space Marine flier, though it's chassis seems to be better suited to a helicoptor than a jet plane. It could also benefit from the cannons being on top, since on the nose they make it look too bottom heavy.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.
I quite like the look of the SM flier, its meant to bridge the gap between landspeeder & storm raven which it does.
Only thing wrong is the massive front weapons system/landing gear that just doesnt work.
Think ill mount the weapons either on the nose or space above cockpit & minimise the landing gear
The Ork one stole my heart. I might get one just to convert it and use along with my guard as a FW Thunderbolt ?
SM flier is not THAT bad, at least we can see that it's a VTOL flier, but the underslung assault cannon is ugly as hell, too big and combined with landing gear...just meh. I'll use tl assault cannons from ravenwing battleforce there and pretend that landing legs are hidden somewhere else.
shame it seems Templars,Dark Angels and Wolves cant use it... does this mean a special flier for these codex? Or will it just get FAQed into them... seeing as all armys more or less have fliers of some sort in them now. We will see i guess.
I adore those orks flyers. It makes me want to revamp my 3rd Ed orks army just Aw an excuse to use em. They really are great.
The necron one is cool... I love the deathglider/cylon raider look to it. Not a surprising model, matches the artwork exactly.
As to the lack of canopy... doesn't bother me. It's not like the pilot needs a canopy. Although, I am wondering what it might look like with a featurless canopy painted the same colour as the hull, in order to give it a pilot-less look (or, perhaps, the pilot doesnt need to physically see out of the thing, that his multidimensional doodad controls are much more efficient)
The marine flyer I don't mind too much. I like the vtol quality to it. Vu I do agree that the weapon mounts are far too big, unbalancing the model. Shouldn't be too hard to rectify.
You know, if we put a pair of legs on that stormtalon, it would make a nice mech.
as a flier, its butt ugly.
So, does that mean that people like buying ugly and useless stuff? Or does it mean that it isn't as ugly or useless as many claim it to be. Even if it isn't the most efficient tool for the points spent, the model can still damage the other players army and/or be fun to play with on the tabletop. Even if part of a model is akward, that doesn't have to mean that the entire model is poorly produced or aestethicly unsatisfying. People are to quick to put their oppinion in hyberbole.

I wish my Grey Knights could use the Stormtalon, it looks awesome and killy. All the new airplanes look great, and are a fine addition to the game.

Does anyone have any pics of the stormtalon with the skyhammer missile launcher? I'm guessing it will be mounted on the chin where the assault cannon is? You see I have an all bike army with 3 landspeeder typhoons and the stormtalon funship would compliment it nicely, as ugly as it is. At the very least I have 9 spare pairs of Ravenwing assault cannons anyway.![]()
In white the Stormtalon actually looks pretty serviceable. It might just be that it's posed a bit more dynamically though.
Goddamn, I love the Ork planes. I think I'll be picking one up on release day, and there'll be a ton of spare parts to dress up a couple of scratchbuilt Ork planes I have sitting around too!![]()

Hmm, that storm talon doesn't look too good. The worst part is that it will take almost 2 years before Forgeworld puts out a conversion kit that actually makes it look good <looks at my not yet complete stormraven with no funds to buy FW kit> *ahem*.

Must admit that I don't like the new Space Marine flyer from what I've seen so far, though it does seem to fit in with the space marine asthetic (boxy, heavy, ugly as sin and so on). I think the problem is that a design evoking 'brute force' doesn't merge well with a lightweight aircraft.
First impression of the Ork one(s) is nice. Kinda looks like a normal plane, just a bit more ramshackle with loads of guns and orky paraphernalia (sorry, gunz an' stuff). Which is good, because it makes it orky without jarring as the Space Marine one does.
Necron one looks as I thought it would.
Can't wait for an Eldar one!
I might be eating humble pie for my earlier posts. I found these pictures which appear to show a longer model than the early ones indicated. The guns still look oversized, but the tail might be longer than it first appears. I'll have to pop in the store and have a look now.
