I don't see it being the Autumn, that will be the time right after the rulebook release and I would expect the boxed set and an army release. I don't see them putting out flyers before the first 6th ed army. Possibly after the army, so that they will be available for Christmas, but more likely spring or summer. Maybe the Summer of Flyers rumors just had the year wrong.

I bet the Storm Hawk does not have an assault ramp, and only a rear/side entry point ala Rhino.

    oh no not again!

Would be nice to see GW have another go at a space marine flier. I remember someone talking about meeting Jes Goodwin at a games day and being asked what he thought about the Stormraven, which suggests they were thinking about what they could do differently/better. We're already due a necron flier or two and maybe a bomber for Dark eldar unless that's been shelved?

That would be interesting. I always felt like the reason they stopped doing those Apoc kits was that they couldn't decide what to do for Space Marines. Maybe they can kill two Stormhawks with one stone.

Just a thought but if they're not changing any of the codexes with any improvement in speed of turn over then there is no drive to buy new models unless 6th ed turns the game on its head and in one ruleset nerds all that is currently made of win and buffs all the average stuff. And even if it did that then a balanced list eg for SM mostly tacticals plus one each other force org slot isn't going to the that nerfed. As GW is sales driven a new flyer for every ace gives a nice sales bump especially if they are the must have thing for 6th ed.

There's a number of names flying around at the moment. The Stormhawk sounds pretty decent but I'll just throw this out again as there are a few that have been mentioned in the past.

In the Horus Heresy novels there is the Hawkwing (if I remember rightly) that is a smaller support craft that seemed to fulfill the same role as a Stormraven.

And in the Badab War I.A. books there is mention of the Salamanders or one of the support chapters using Firesprite Gunships to aid in their assaults.

Agreed. This reminds me of the year when Apocalypse came out. The manager of the Memphis Battle Bunker told me about plastic Deff Dreads and Killa Kans. I had never heard or read about them anywhere. Long after I thought I had been misinformed, these kits came out of nowhere alongside Battle Missions. He was certainly way off with the timing!

I'd be surprised to see something like this the same year as 6th unless it was something like a Codex of flyers allowing for new kits to be added to multiple codexes at once. I'd anticipate something like a supplement to be the following year. That being said I think we can expect the general increase in flyers throughout the game.

Also, considering I just completed converting a Razorwing into a Phoenix Bomber I'm really happy there wasn't an Eldar flyer in your list.

Potential Heresy-era flyer? Sounds like something Chaos might have access to...

Interesting rumours, but I agree that it's not likely to happen this year. I can definitely see next year bringing something new for 40k to ride the 6th edition wave and give older armies an update without actually updating their codex.

    And lol @ Stickmonkey's comment

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

Anyone remember the "summer of fliers" that wasn't? How about let's stop pretending that GW packages kits by season and type and just accept that they're going to be releasing more flyers for more armies, but they're probably going to be releasing them alongside codices/expansions and not in some kind of single-shot flier orgasm?

This is exciting news indeed. As a marine player i am always exciting to know there may be an Flyer option heading my way.

It is easily done. Folks see stuff/hear about stuff that is clearly done they naturally assume it is just around the corner. It just doesn't always work that way. So sometimes a model is just the first thing done that is part of a two or three year project so the fact that it is finished is neither here nor there .... it arrives with the rest of the stuff when it is scheduled to do so.

I know about lots of stuff that is done but have no idea of the order. Thats the tricky bit.
So Stickmonkey can be forgiven for getting ahead of himself.
I did contact him when he first started to urge caution about assuming things he had seen were happening....

... and again when the 'summer of flyers, didn't happen to reassure him that he was, essentially, correct but had just shot his bolt a bit early.

it is entirely possible I am doing exactly the same thing! (I don't have a great track record on the timings of 40K stuff)

GW are going to be releasing more flyers for more armies ... thats a fact ... and they are going to be releasing them alongside codices ... shocker ... but much as it is only a rumour as I said on page 1 ... I have reason for suggesting there will be a specific supplement for flyers ... and I have only suggested two flyers I have heard along side this .... I am not suggesting an 'single shot orgasm'.
As for the season thing ... that was mostly a gentle tip of the hat to stickmonkey ... but I also have reason for suggesting this timescale ... as unlikely as it seems.

But thanks for the warmth of your post.

Harry, does the Tyranid Harpy you heard about tie in with this somehow or was the Harpy indeed mistaken as the Winged Hive Tyrant?

Honestly fellas ... I have no idea. It is so long ago I heard about the Tyranid stuff ...
... I can't even remember who I heard it from.
However I seem to remember he was pretty sure it was a Harpy.

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

Hi Guys. Storm Hawk is from A Thousand Sons by Graham McNeill (p207). It is a small single unit transport craft/gunship, similar in nature to the Storm Raven. It was in use with the Thousand Sons legion and possibly others. Space Wolves were using a storm crow (p201). Plenty of refences to Stormbirds in other novels. It would make sense that this is chosen as the generic Marine flyer, as it would then be a kit that could be used by both Chaos and Vanilla marine codecies. As has been mentioned above. Jes Goodwin was very clear at UK GD that vanilla marines would not gain access to the Storm Raven, but was equally clear that they would gain a flyer of their own in the future.

First time posting, but as I knew where the reference comes from, I thought I'd but in.

This dude, quoting Harry's rumour, dug a picture up from years ago which might help people to visualise it.
