    Re: Autumn of Fliers

Entirely possible I'm reading too much into it, as it's the first time I've seen the image (I also could have been looking at an old video as that site seems to have no rhyme nor reason to it ). Edit: yes, it's from April 12th, so my bad

That said, it looks VERY like their sketch of the Stormtalon.

    Edit again:

Even the angles the sketch is done from are almost exactly the same...

And add a tail, canopy, lascannons, stats and rules? Seems far-fetched to me, especially with the release list confirmations floating around listing the Stormtalon. But yeah, the similarities are still too striking to be written of as a coincidence, even if the 'helicoptor with vtol jets' is a common design theme. While High Tech Studios seems intent on creating a lot 'count-as' 40k models, that Landcopter model was announced almost a month before most of us even knew of the Stormtalon's excistence, let alone how it was going to look. Weird indeed.

Another option is that someone described it as "Like the Landcopter crossed with a Stormraven" and they took the Landcopter pic as a basis and "Marineafied" it.

Well their Necron Stalker 'sketch' was pretty spot on with differences from the codex art, so I'm assuming they have a valid source (probably somewith with access to an advance look at (parts of) the next White Dwarf, or upcoming box art or something).

Ah well, with some luck we'll see leaked White Dwarf pictures before the day's end so we don't have to speculate on the validity of the Stormtalon any longer.

I assumed they had someone with access to box art or White Dwarf. We have known for a while boxes are in storage ready for release of those fliers. In fact the first confirmation of the Ork and Marine ones were from that kind of sighting. Knowing someone with access to box art is a bit different to someone with access to the rulebook. Even if the book was in the same warehouse, they are individually shrinkwrapped, so it's less likely they have a source for that stuff.

The 6th ed stuff could simply be rules excerpts from July's WD or something; previous publications also had excerpts from the GK and Necron codices. Would also explain why their rule explanations are so fuzzy, they simply don't have access to the full picture.

    Not really.

It would be an absurd coincidence for them to tweak another design and somehow manage to be so spot-on.

We'll get them when we get them! Personally I can't see them being up before 5-6pm BST, as those that receive their subscription copies could also be at work, so they'd need to come home, open it up, and then scan it in. I am also rather excited though and, depending on the look of the Stormtalon, will be picking one up on release day!

Doubtful - IIRC, Hastings recently confirmed that the new flyers look exactly like the sketches from BoW. Seems more likely to me that BoW and Hi-Tech have similar sources.

Well, their origins lie in rec.games.warhammer, from which they were developed further first by the IGCOM mailing list before being completely revamped for the first forum-based Warhammer communities.

I don't think GW's ever revealed their pre-usenet history, although presumably the letters section of very old White Dwarfs is involved.

I have to say, this rumor lockdown does have me really anxious waiting for pics. The week of waiting for release only has me really hyped up, so I will paint it as soon as I get it.

Yeah the Landcopter looks a bit far fetched when comparing it to the Stormtalon sketch. Engines, tail, lasguns, cockpit, all different. Only possibility for the mixup I can think of was if someone took Landcopter and added SR bits on it. Well, the appearance of the Landcopter could be a pure coincidence, both seem to be SR-Orca hybrids. Funny how the old C&C Orca has made such a lasting impression as THE scifi gunship

Maybe because it fits in well visually with the dropship, the UD-1 Cheyenne from Aliens?

The angles the sketch is done from should be the same, it shows the entire side profile, with a enough of the front that you get a feel for the entire model. Its like how most ads for cars show them from similiar angles its just a really efficient pose for whatever your selling.

I've wondered that as well, both BoK & BoW tend to have really good record with rumours tied to WD. That said if you want to get attention for your site 6th ed. rumours are the best way to do it, and with alot of people not wanting these changes they'll be more relieved that those aren't the case than angry that the rumours weren't correct so to a degree its house money.

Every time someone says that, a GW marketing guy gets a pay raise.

I'm actually talking about the original Orca featured in C&C 1 from 1995.. lol u n00bs In any case, you can probably see where the inspiration comes from.

In all of it's flying through canyons, launching from an 18-wheeler glory. Yep. They are not identical, but feel like they came from the same place. Sort of like the Huey vs the Huey Cobra.

The Orca variant that fits the Storm Talon best though is the version used for the Orca Strike in Tiberium Wars, not the buildable version.

I keep looking in here hoping that the pictures have been leaked already. Sort of funny, this much hype for a leak of a product.

Huh. Looked at the BoW pics again, and there are not 2-3 different views of the Talon. It is just one picture, mirrored and zoomed in on. I was worried that the Assault cannon was consistantly big in all three images posted above, but a closer look seems that it is just the one picture, manipulated to make it look like more.
