That's what storm shields are for. And hey, let's not forget the 2+ armor save, which isn't exactly common... or the assault cannon, the cyclone launcher, the chainfist, the power fist, the ability to teleport, the storm bolter, the thunderhammer...

    What more can people want?!

It's not like they stink out loud. There just happen to be more options for players to counter Terminator Dreadnought Armour now.

I am not convinced people are going to be all excited about terminators getting a 2+ save against power weapons about 2 weeks into the new edition.

Terminator talk in the "Autumn of Fliers" thread.

How about this: does anybody have any rumors as to changes made to Fliers in 6E rules that will make them function more like actual fliers rather than specialized Skimmers?

    Flying terminators!

I've heard repeated rumors that some kind of "flyer rules" will be in 6th edition, but no idea what they might be.

There's what was put forward in the playtest/brainstorm/fake/final version/whatever set of rules.
Not sure if I should say what it is outside the official WS thread, but here goes:

Fliers move by (when they chose to enter Supersonic, otherwise they are skimmers) picking a point on the board edge and a target marker, both in their front arc. They move off the table and re-appear on the entry point facing the target. It then moves as far as you like (at least 12" though) in a straight line (which may take it past the target).

Also of note is the bombing run rule:

A model can use a single bomb in its own Movement Phase. Dropping a bomb is a Free action and can be conducted during one of the following Move actions: Combat move, Cruise, Flat out and Supersonic. Mark one model the bomber is passing over during the move. After finishing the movement of the unit, place the specified blast marker on top of the marked model.

Which makes the blitza bomber soooooo much better.

While in supersonic, they basically are hit on 6s and can't be assaulted.

I've been to a plastics casting factory in China.
I went there as a passive translator (read: spy)
The employees all had '500 yard stares'.
Guess it's like being in the trenches.
The place was spotless for inspection day though.

I've done some temp work in an injection moulding plant. Some of the experienced workers had that look. The pace of work is the worst part. It can be especially stressful if the environment is not particularly safe (proper guarding, procedures, etc.). This leads me to think about a story I heard about a punch press in China. Newer machines have a fair bit of automation. They were using an old one that required pieces to be moved manually between each cycle of the press. The plant's solution to this was to have a crew of men inside the machine, crouching down while the press cycled. When they press went up, they would stand, move the parts, then crouch back down. The crew would do this for an entire shift...

I think that we have completely lost any resemblance to a thread about an "Autumn of Fliers" or in fact any other GW product in favour of a comparison and discussion of industrial processes.

Whilst this is undoubtedly fascinating it would be lovely if we could get back on topic, please, now....... :S

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

The pace of work can get really dull sometimes. But I'm kind of lucky in that we do a lot of short runs along with longer ones. So it's not uncommon to go to work install a mold and get the part QA approved. Then go work on another press. Only to come back near the end of the shift to take the mold out.

I only know of two machine related injuries. My boss's boss tryed to clear a jammed grinder while it was still plugged in and it cost him some fingers. The other was a long time ago and an operator disabled the safty switches on guard door. So he could increase his cycle times. A part stuck on the hot half and he tryed to get it off. Not remembering disabling the safties. Needless to say the press started closing and he didn't get everything out of the way. Even before reaching mold touch there is way more force then a human hand can handle. To make the rest of the story shorter this guy tested dirty when he was taken to the hospidal.

This Flier supplement (if any) better have some narrative campaigns and scenery-modelling sections and not just a bunch of missions.

Well, trying to get back on topic; I wonder if the fact that both the Ork and Marine "flyer's" shooting has the pinning rule is a sign of a more general trend? If pinning is more effective in 6th Ed, the ability of flyers to disrupt infantry could offer a new tactical dimension.

    Re: Autumn of Fliers

This thread is way off topic now.

Considering the initial release of fliers are here, I'm closing this thread.

When more info on future fliers comes to hand, a new thread can be started.
