    Saardis IG & Admech thread

Hi all. I've joined in an attempt to actually finish a project - and I think that the highly supportive community I've seen on this forum will really help me out!

I've been toying with the idea of doing an Admech/IG force for some time now, and I've finally decided to give it a go. The fluff behind the army is that a titan legion whose homeworld has been destroyed (currently I'm thinking Legio Gryphonicus) have offered to pacify a forgeworld which is undergoing a civil war in return for them being able to relocate there. The powers that be in the Imperium and Admech have allowed them to recruit replacement troops for their Skitarii legions from existing Imperial Guard regiments: the plan being that these troops will receive 'upgrades' as they increase in rank. I've gone for a heavily weathered winter camo scheme for the vehicles, which I'm quite pleased with, and I've tried to use grey and yellow on the troops to echo the livery of Legio Gryphonicus. I've gone for Death Korps and Cadian Hostile Environment troops, due to the heavily polluted and inhospitable nature of the forgeworld in question... Think a cross between Titan, Mars and Io in our solar system.

On with the show - first a Banewolf and a Chimera variant, the idea for which came from a chap calling himself Bungaroo here on Warseer. The Banewolf's largely finished, and I've still got a little tinkering to do on the Chimera.

Hopefully it's OK to double-post like this...

Here's some examples of my troops so far: I'll put some pics of the first squad up with a bit of background fluff I've been working on in spare moments.

I'm going with a mix of the Cadian Hostile Environment troops and the Death Korps models. Death Korps melta-armed veterans will be used with Vendettas in a tank-busting role, with Cadian veterans with plasma guns in Chimeras as anti-infantry. I'm also going to have a couple of Hydras and a Manticore. These are all at various build stages at the moment, along with bits which might end up becoming a Forge Knight when I get round to it!

I've just started work on the Forgeworld Titan Tech priest. Hopefully I'll have a few WIP shots of him over the next few days.

Thanks a lot for the comments, hopefully I'll have some more for you to look at mid-week ish.

The tutorial I used to alter the shape of the Chimera is here:

Re: Saardis IG & Admech thread - WIP stuff update

    @ nebulushoax: thanks a lot!

Time for some WIP stuff type updates.

First up for some troops: usually I try and mix painting the Cadians and the Krieg troops to keep it a bit more varied. Sorry about the darkness of some of the photos: the flash on the camera I used is a little brutal so I tried not to use it where possible.

I'm trying to make the tall clump of grass look a little more realistic - hopefully some snow and stones will help, along with the small clumps of grass.

    Regular hyspatists with lasguns:

Forgeworld techpriest - I just got this initially because I liked the model. I'll probably use him in the command squad somewhere, as the current version of the 1500 point list I'm working to doesn't have any techpriests. I've tried to do him in the same colour scheme as the troops I've done so far: I think that techpriests attached to a Titan Legion or to the personal retinue of a particular Magos would probably wear his colours - also wearing the usual bright red robes on a planet where the primary natural colours are grey, brown and white isn't a particularly good survival strategy.

I'm probably going to do the servo-arms in Adeptus Battlegrey, with the pistons picked out in red and silver. I'd like to pick out most of the amulets and the censer he's wearing in gold, and I'd quite like to make the axe head look like it is red hot - although I'm still thinking about that.

Re: Saardis IG & Admech thread

I've also got some vehicles on the go.

Here is the 'Trojan pattern' chimera I've been working on weathering:

I've also got a Forgeworld Manticore (I prefer it to the Citadel one):

I think I've bodged the assembly of this a little bit: the resin top section is really badly warped, so that there's a quite visible gap between the flat bottom of the turret and the top of the vehicle. I think I may have to block this off with some camouflage netting and stowage, because there's no way I'm going to glue the turret in place and fill up the gap as it will look even worse!

Re: Saardis IG & Admech thread

Last up, an Imperial Scanner from Forgeworld, two of which I will be using as objective markers:

And a Hydra I'm working on:

These tend to get shot at quite a bit, I've noticed! For this reason I have put some armoured skirts round the sides. I also liked the idea of a surface to air missile launcher, rather than the flak cannons I've seen on other builds. Initially I played around with using the loader servitor from the Sisters of Battle Exorcist, but sadly I couldn't get it into a position where it wouldn't obstruct the turret (or, for that matter make it look good). The turret is a Space Marine Air Defence launcher from Forgeworld. The skirts aren't glued in place yet, so I may well move them higher, but for the moment I'm happy with this position.

As usual your comments and criticisms are most welcome.

Great, another Ad Mech thread to be inspired by!

Where did you get the gears/cogs you've put on the side of your Chimeras? Is it some sort of otherwise mundane washer re-purposed by the conversion gods of "Oooh, Shiny!"

Frowback: You're right, the washers I've used were star lock washers from a big pack I found in my girlfriend's dad's shed. You should be able to pick them up from most hardwear shops.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I have been busy I promise! I will be finishing off some bits and pieces today and taking some photos tonight. In the mean time, I saw some admech axes for sale - made by a company that wasn't GW: a conversion bitz company. Has anyone run across these, and if so please could you post a link.

Great start ! Welcome to the beautiful world of IGs and tanks
Like that you rebuild almost all of your vehicles and troopers. How big do you plan to do this army ?

Re: Saardis IG & Admech thread

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback.

I've got a list which works out at 1500 points initially, then I will probably take it to 3000 points.

    My initial list consists of

1x company command squad in chimera with plasmas

2x veteran squads in chimeras with plasmas

    3x veteran squads with meltas

    3x vendetta

    2x hydra

    1x manticore

I would like to make some skitarii from Krieg grenadiers, as I have seen a few other people do, so to take it up to 3000 points and maintain the fluff levels I'll probably have a couple units of those, probably mounted in a different chimera variant. I'm currently working on the models for the company command squad. The current Cadian and Krieg models I've already posted represent Hyspatists - essentially human auxilia drafted into the Mechanicum's armies as a tithe for services rendered to their homeworlds. Those that have an affinity for the Cult Mechanicus join the ranks of the Skitarii, who I think of as about on a par with the Stormtroopers of the Imperial Guard in terms of their power on the table. I really, really like painting tanks, so I am probably going to go for a couple of super-heavies, and maybe one day a couple of Mars Pattern Warhound Titans - that is a pretty long way off though, as I'm going to finish the initial 1500 point list before thinking properly about the next step.

Nice stuff so far. Really liking the look of troopers and cant wait to see the priest done.

I just wanted to comment on your mention of Skitarii. Depending on what you read their power levels vary greatly. If you have read mechanicus and titanicus (they are really awesome if you havent) the Skitarii are much scarier. With the power more similar to the fluff level of marines or somewhere between an ogryn and a sentinel. This also gives a lot of scope for conversions....
