@SDKFZ: I thought it would look a bit OTT if I coated the top surfaces too. I got the idea for the 'combat paint' from the name of the paint - Adeptus Battlegrey. I thought they might spray over their red vestments with grey paint for war.

Ok, I'm back on the horse!
Apologies for the long gap between posts: I've been working on a non-hobby related project for most of the summer, which has sucked up all my spare time and money!
The first tank I've painted for ages: a Forgeworld Manticore. Still WIP at the moment, but I'm quite pleased with the way it is going. I've just got to work out how I'm going to paint and weather the missiles.
I've also had a go at a ghoul/necron kitbash combat servitor. Tanks seem to be a little easier to kill in the new rules, and rather than put all of my eggs in one basket with Chimera-mounted vets, I'm thinking of a big mob of gribbly-looking servitors to use as a 'counts as' regiment.

I've also managed to get my general primed up and shaded a bit:
The big pointy thing on his shoulder is supposed to be some kind of weaponized particle accelerator or something!
Sorry for the dodgy pics - I couldn't find my camera so these were all taken with my phone.
Looks like i'm not the only one building Ghoulitors, take it that's a chimera lasgun barrel?
As for your general; not certain about the lack of joints in the legs... it's makes him look a bit... iffy.

Hi G.Hawke, thanks for the feedback. That is indeed a Chimera lasgun barrel: if you look at some of the earlier pages at how I build my Chimeras you can see I've got quite a few spare ones laying about.
The angle of the photo of the general isn't a good one: I didn't have much battery on my phone so could only take the one. I think there might be some earlier ones which show his legs a bit better... There is a hip joint at just below waist level, and below that a knee joint at the point where the pistons fit into the housing. I was just trying to make some alternative ways of walking for a cult of people who believe that machines are perfect and are trying to get away from their old human bodies.
Great looking combat servitor conversion! Might have to steal that one when/if I expand my AdMech. Seems like a reasonably cost effective use of parts as well.
Cheers,
BTB
My goodies have arrived!
From left to right are: Malcador with battlecannon, 5 packs of Servo-Skulls, 1 Krieg weapons pack, 1 Krieg command set (not the HQ one) and 1 Krieg Grenadiers set.
My plan is to make a Malcaruss and some Cerebralerebus-style Skitarii from the Grenadiers and Servo-Skulls. Obviously I'll be posting lots of pics as I build them...
Good luck, and YES please, do post loads of pictures

Just time for a quick mini-update.
I've started work on my grenadiers: fluffwise for this army these are the actual Skitarii. Up first is the sergeant (as he's the most complete).
I spent a slightly worried afternoon chopping the heads off these fellows:
...like so:
...and glueing skull probes onto the neck stumps like so:
I will take some more close-ups when I have gap-filled them and glued the weapons on.
I've also started work on the turret for my Malcaruss:
It is based on a 1:35 Tamiya model of a German WW2 tank called the Leopard. I'm going to bulk it up a bit with some plasticard today, and I'd like to make a command cupola a bit like this: http://www.wwiivehicles.com/usa/tank...-africa-01.png or this: http://www.wwiivehicles.com/usa/tank...-turret-01.png off to one side, making it more asymmetrical. I'm going to edge it with thin plasticard strip to make it match the structure of the Malcador hull... The rivets are going to drive me insane! I'd also like to use the locker from the back of the proper Malcador turret roof section on the back of this turret, for a bit more of an authentic feel.
As usual, apologies for my photography skills or lack thereof, and all comments and criticisms are most welcome.
Saardis.
Looks like a cool idea for the turret. Building a cupola on the righthand side shouldent be to hard and will change the whole look of the turret. Do you have the "box" from that malcador turret ?
If not, i think ive still got mine. Whant it, just PM me

Here's my Malcaruss so far:

I've got some gap filling and riveting to do. I'm doing some more on the Grenadiers/Skitarii next: I'm saving up all the Greenstuff work to do in one hit!
I've had a chance to complete the assembly of my Skitarii. I tried to keep it simple, using Krieg Grenadier bodies and Skull Probes for heads - I got the idea from Cerebralerebrus.

The malcaruss looks great, Mate ! Like that you went for the bulge on the turret as most of the GW vehicles have that.
Skitariis also looking ace, itll be cool to see how they look painted up.

Hey Hey matefinally signed up!
Your malcaruss is looking awesome - really like the turret conversion.
I carnt wait to see these in the flesh!
on a side note - had a play with those vallejo pigments last night - reasonable results. Tried pin washing the underneath - big fail i think i need to look at other options.
Sorry for going off the radar a bit again, but I'm back for a good while now - and I've done some painting! First up, some troops: one of my new Skitarii is on the right of the pic.
I've also finished my FW Manticore:
Maybe a bit of graphite on the tracks might make them look a bit better? I'm not sure.
I've also been enjoying the 'riveting' task of putting all of the rivets on the Malcaruss:
And I've done some more work on the turret:
Here's what it looks like on the tank:
I'm thinking about using one of the Leman Russ side doors as a hatch on top of the turret just to the side of the cupola on the flat top section. It needs something there!
Looking very good sofar, Mate. Isnt riveting fun ?
Using the LR hatch sounds like a great idea. Have you tested the fit ?

Drilling all those holes with a hand drill gave me a sore wrist - next time I will have to make a little jig out of sheet metal and use a dremel.
It does go on, but I need to make some hinges for it. I just thought it would be a more realistic way to get shells inside the shot locker than through the command cupola!
