Dissapointing to see they are a limited run, I could understand for the lesser known chapters - but the mainstream ones such as iron hands, salamanders and raven guard could really do with these as a permanant thing. They are nice though, hope it encourages people to do more of the lesser known chapters like Aurora and Death Spectres.
It may be a trial run, to see how they do. Print a limited amount, see how fast they sell, then consider producing them full time.

Maybe they're doing a limited run, because they want to print other decal sets later, cycling through many less known chapters and such. Continuing to print all of these for some of the more niche markets (except maybe Iron Hands and Salamanders) might not pay off as much as pulling in all people interested in a given chapter at once.
Which only helps those currently doing, or with very solid plans to, those chapters. I don't know what the production costs for these sheets are, but it's not like they take much shelf space. There's not much reason for them to not lay in a multi-year stock.
Because many of these sheets are for more esoteric lesser chapters, and if they ordered a two year stock and sold 100 sheets, then they have a ton of dead product lying around? They may do this like many of the holiday bundles- decent sized fixed order, mark it "as supplies last" to encourage people to buy more instead of buying them at their leisure as they get used, and if sales are good for particular lines, they can easily do another print run. Limited runs also lets them do different sheets, and rotate them in and out for different factions. Imagine in two months we get a different set of decal sheets for different chapters and things like Eldar Craftworlds, ork Klans, Tau Septs, and Dark Eldar kabals?

Yeah, shelf space isn't free. What's more, the paper itself doesn't last forever, even in ideal conditions.

What so special about these decals? I assume marine boxes have decal sheets like other armies.
Are some of these only available exclusively in this run?
You assume correctly. However, not all ~1000 chapters are lucky enough to have printed decal sheets provided in each kit![]()
