    Re: GW Space Marine Decals

from the info posted on Dakkadakka this doesnt appear to be limited run. I hope they do expand the range greatly as decals are excellent for pushing people to choose other marine chapters rather than the ones on the current marine sheet.

Testors has always had the best varnish. They also have a decal solvent that softens decals so they fully conform to complex surfaces.

Basically a coat of gloss goes on first, then the decal, then the softener (repeat until fully in place, waiting until completely dry between applications), another coat of gloss for extra durability, and finally a coat of matte varnish. This makes decals look like they have been physically printed onto a model with no ugly decal outlines.

If you go this route you'll need an old brush that you don't mind dipping into paint thinner to clean off the Testors chemicals.

White vinegar is the softener btw.

I hope the quality is better than GWs previous efforts which were comically awful. My home made transfers were easier to apply.

It's nice to see GW finally release these after 25 years. I suppose GW is looking to cut into the 2nd party market. Chapter house studios was producing shoulder pads for some of chapters.

New Decals are a great thing to see. Some of them seem like they fit well with certain sets- perhaps they will put the Iron Hands one in with the Iron Hands conversion set?

Hopefully they do more of these. White Scars and Grey Knights ones would both be useful to me. Maybe some for Eldar Craftworlds and Dark Eldar Kabals, and Ork Klans too. Some Non-Cadian guard decals would be useful as well.

Huh. And I was gonna scoff at these, because I have never had any real luck applying these, especially to the shoulder pads, but since it says these ones are a little different, maybe I will give them a try. The pads on my Neophytes have long since rubbed off anyway. I've been pretty pleased with all the new hobby products GW has been putting out lately, I'm the track record continues!

Slight tangent, but I'm hoping that if these are successful GW will do something similar for fantasy. That'll help make banners and shield designs easier to do, if you dislike the raised styles...

Yes! Angels of Vengeance! Finally! I really really hope GW continues with this, and release more chapter specific markings. The oooold boring standard marine sheet has outlived itself far too long.

    Good work GW!

Cool, I've wanted an Angels of Vengeance army. These transfers are gonna go on the marines from the new starter set. But I hope that GW don't remove metal Flesh Tearers shoulder pads because of this.

That might be. Would it be the first time Forge world did some thing "Step better then Gw's?"

Here is two problem with Forge-world decals there sold in large sets. In some cases that's becomes highly impractical for certain armies.

I Play space wolves. I choose Egil Iron Wolf Company, a deeply personal choice.

    I need between 8 to 12 sheets.

Now Gw can do me a huge favor and put out a set of these sheets, reducing the amount down to three or four sheets based on how many termy i end up owning.

I applaud them for seeing a whole in there range and offering a useful solution to that hole.

I do things similarly to WildWeasel, but at the end I apply another layer of gloss. This protects the decals as well as further hiding the decal edges. If decals are applied properly and the proper tools are used, they should end up looking painted on (or better).

I love the fact that the Mentors Decal sheet has the price "£???". That must have been why they put the price notice on the website for this WD.

Given the relatively low cost for designing and producing Decal sheets, if GW keeps them Direct only, I see no reason they could not add a few each month. Maybe even tie them into that months release if possible. Say when Dark Angels come out, some more sucessor chapters get decal sheets, as well as say Deathwing and Ravenwing. Or Chaos, and the 4 Gods get sheets, as well as various Legions.

Those Angels of vegence ones look ideal for my chapter. How easy will they be to trim do we think?

Very easy I think, they look similar to the FW sheets which are a good quality comparing to the likes of some sheets I've seen out there for aviation models, Microscale/Modeldecal etc.. The actual icon and carrier film should be printed pretty much on top of one another, a good sharp blade to cut round -I have a small pair of quite sharp and small nail scissors I use for most decals, an X-Acto for others.

    Re: GW Space Marine Decals

some decals for other races would be nice and as others have said for fantasy, but to be honest i much prefer sculpted icons.

    Re: GW Space Marine Decals

Eldar, Grey Knights, and maybe Orks could really use new decal sheets
