    Monstrous arcanum

New book from WH Forge now up on their site:

    Priced at £32

    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuf...S_ARCANUM.html

Here is the text about the book:

This is the eagerly-anticipated first book in a new series from Warhammer Forge, and as its name suggests Monstrous Arcanum deals with a veritable carnival of monsters both arcane and bloodthirsty. Within this 113 page, full-colour hardback book, you will find 32 new monsters – nightmarish horrors and noble beasts, creatures of magic made flesh and the victims of terrible curses inflicted by dark powers – presented in the form of Binding Scrolls for use with any Warhammer army.

These are not limited to just Storm of Magic games, however, as the book contains nine scenarios and special rules to allow these deadly creatures to be fielded in regular Warhammer battles, and a helpful appendix chart to allow you to theme your monsters to your army.

Lavishly illustrated throughout with some of the finest artwork yet produced by Rhys Pugh and Sam Lamont and presented in gold-inlaid leather effect binding, Monstrous Arcanum takes the form of a detailed bestiary of these infernal and terrible creatures, and also contains new magic items and artefacts alongside a short narrative campaign. Our Visual Feed channel on youtube also has an interview about Monstrous Arcanum with Alan Bligh.
This fantastic book will be on sale in limited numbers at the Forge World Open Day on Sunday 1st April, and is also available to pre-order now for despatch from the 10th April.

Was in 2 minds whether to drive for 2 hours to Nottingham, this may have made me make a decision. New fancy Skin Wolf and an awesome book. Bearing in mind everyone else doesn't horde them beofre I get there.

Can't wait to get my hands on this. Tamurkhan is a gorgeous book, and this one will naturally have a place beside it on my bookshelf. A little sad that the number of monsters is a bit lower than I was hearing, but the price is very friendly and there's rules for a narrative campaign included (bonus!).

Love the Khemric Titan page that's showing... so exciting to see what else is in there!

Oh, Forgeworld, how you make my bank account tremble in fear. Next order will likely be a battery of SM Rapier Laser Destroyers, Sevrin Loth, probably another 5 MkIV bodies and then this lovely book. The monsters will be soon to follow, I'm sure

Wouldn't have considered getting this, were it not for how impressed I was with the Tamurkhan. Not sure if I can afford to pick it up on Sunday, on top of the event only figures and the Minotaur characters. Still holding out for some pre-release chaos dwarf love.

Wow, that one surprised me! But in a positive way, the cover looks great and the Khemric Titan looks very interesting as well. Hopefully the artwork is as good as the one in Tamurkhan, but the Bright Wizard definately looks good. Also nice to see that there is fluff in it, judging from the last picture. Lastly, this appendix chart sounds interesting...

    I'll buy one as well.

There were rumours that there was to be around 50 monsters, hopefully thats still true and we will see them into another book. Or when 50 was mentioned, that was including the pact monsters they are selling like Skin WOlves and Fimir.

I've been meaning to ask, is the Tamurkhan book the same size as the 8th edition Army Books? And, once people have this one, is the same size?
    Thanks for telling me.

Tamurkhan is much bigger than an Army book, more in line with IA1 or 2. It is a beautiful book, and a great read even if you're not interested in the armies.

    Re: Monstrous arcanum

Yeah the Tamurkhan book is physically much larger than an army book, bigger dimensions, more pages and just plain beefier. Those books weigh a couple pounds instead of ounces.

Anyway, Monstrous Arcanum appears to be 113 pages/32 monsters, according to the website. If it costs the same as an army book (don't know the UK prices, just conversion rates!) then it looks to be a nice deal.

Thanks, I know it's a bit off-topic, but I began collecting army books with 8th ed and I am a sucker for a neat line of books. Guess I am not interested in starting a FW collection next to that if they don't match. I know, I am stupid.

I am going to go on a limb here and say this book will share the same size as the Tamurkhan book.

IIRC the amount was reduced to around 32 or something in the end (from an initial 90+ roster of creatures!)

    Re: Monstrous arcanum

Hopefully that just means that the ones they picked were that much more awesome... or they might just release a Monstrous Arcanum Volume II later, I suppose Doing them all in one shot would have been a massive undertaking and would limit their studio's flexibility big-time.

Tamurkhan is twice the size of an armybook.

    Re: Monstrous arcanum

Is there any information on including the monsters in regular warhammer games other than the small blurb of: "special rules to allow these deadly creatures to be fielded in regular Warhammer battles"?
