Heroes of Angmar to face The Fellowship.

LotR or WotR army list: LotR

I'm making a 750pt army from each of the new source books.

The Free Peoples are going to be The Fellowship, so want each other army to be as balanced as possible against it, so my friends and I can just grab whatever army takes our fancy that day and play without worrying to much about it.

Here is the Angmar army I came up with. I just went for everything that looked fun to paint and play with.

Buhrdur and 2 Cave Trolls 270pts

The Tainted and 10 Orcs with a mix of weapon upgrades 180pts

1 Orc Captain and 10 Orcs with a mix of weapon upgrades 100pts

2 Barrow-wights and 1 Shade 200pts

Total 750pts

So putting the above army against The Fellowship? Would it make for a fun game for both sides? If not, what conditions could we put on the game to make it more fun and balanced for both players?

The fellowship player should be experienced because this list could do some bad things to it. Aka immobilize the main fighters then mob them, and send the trolls to kill the hobbits. Maybe lower the points cost for the evil side? The book scenario is 24 infinite goblins plus a troll and it's considered fair. Or put the victory conditions slightly in favor of the good side or have no break limit for the good side. Maybe something like that...

The no break limit for the good side sounds like a winner. Thank you.

I was thinking of letting the new player take The Fellowship, so might take some points off the evil side for games against The Fellowship as well.

So......Take away the Shade and one of the Barrow-whites maybe?

I don't know the price of the shade but if it lowers it enough, it should be fine. Its up to you to balance the list, you don't want to totally destroy a new player so they won't want to play anymore. Whatever you think is fair, not necessarily an even points cost. (the beginer box is 750 pts vs around 200 and is fairly even) The choices that you made are good because it reduces the amount of advanced rules and amount of magic involved. To keep it simple maybe drop gandalf from the fellowship to reduce the magic to a minimum? Just for people who have never played war games though...to keep it easy and simple. The main lists you wrote up would be really good for a second time player, as they will know the rules and be ready for more complicated ones such as magic and courage modifiers.

We are starting with a smaller game of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli against 5 Warg Chieftains and hope this will give us lots of experience, without taking forever. We just bought the Fenrisian Wolves pack for it. We are going to play with these until I have built up Angmar.

It's wierd that I bought the book for my Moria Goblin army, But the Angmar list is really cool and Buhrdur just roars out the page at me.
