How do you magnetize the bases?

Quick question. How do you magnetize your bases?

Them being solid stops my normal way.(Superglue 2-3 rare earth magnets to plasti-card, then plastic glue plasti- card to bottom of base[stops magnets from ripping off])

That is a good idea on the plasticard. I have the problem of them ripping off now.

    Thanks

You can still do this if you want , just drill a hole in the boddom of the base the size of your magnets BEFORE you glue your mini into the mantic base. This makes a nice recess in the bottom for your magnet to slot into. you can then cover it up with whatever you want, but I suspect that if you make your hole slightly smaller than your magnet the glye and the preassure from the tight fit will probly be enough to hold it in for you. (just dont forget to cut a chanel for the excess glue and trapped air to get out, a little nick in the side of your whole should do the trick).

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye... and then it's just fun!

I assume you are referring to Mantic infantry square bases. If so:
    1. Grab your base
    2. Grab your drilling implement (I recommend a good old fashioned hand drill of the unplugged variety - gives more control) with a drill bit equal to the width of your magnet (I use 3mm)
    3. Flip your base bottom side up. You should notice that there are four small indentations in the corners of the underside of the base, as if a bit of the plastic was 'sucked in' during the moulding process. Those are your guiding holes.
    4. Lodge your drill bit in one of the indentations and give it a firm twist (this is a 'That's what she said' moment if I ever saw one). I find that two or three good twists are plenty if you apply enough pressure (there it is again). You don't want the hole to be too deep, since your magnet will not connect with your whatever-it-is-you-are-using-magnets-for. And you definetly don't want to accidently go all the way through (three times the charm).
    5. Grab your magnet and glue it in. This can be a bit fiddly if you are using really tiny magnets. If you are using sheet metal as your magnet-sticking material you don't need to worry about polarization, otherwise keep it in mind.
    6. Rinse and repeat however many times your heart desires. I find that a 3mm neodymium magnet in one corner is enough for standard plastic infantry. Larger plastic dudes or metal models will need an extra one or two.

This works like a charm and I have even done it on already painted and finished models with no ill effect. The only problem I can foresee is if you use much larger magnets than I do - your drill bit might be too big to fit in the corner of the base. Other than that, I anticipate no problems, it really just takes a few seconds. Then again, I don't accept responsibility if you accidentaly drill a hole in your head or somesuch.

I use magnetic sheets found on ebay cut to size on both tray and the bases of the mini's.

I'd just use magnetic tape. Works well for all but the heavier metal models, which isn't really an issue for Mantic models. Works a treat for plastics, and is easily accessible from the hardware store.
