2000 points my first tervigon list.

    40K Army: Tyranids
    HQ

95- Tyranid Prime- deathspitter & scything talons, Regen

240- Tervigon- stinger salvo, regen, adrenal glands, toxin sacs, catalyst, onslaught.

    TROOPS

240- Tervigon- stinger salvo, regen, adrenal glands, toxin sacs, catalyst, onslaught.

180- 5 warriors, 4 with deathspitters, 1 with barbed strangler, all with scything talons.

    100- 20 fleshborer gaunts

    100- 20 fleshborer gaunts

    150- 15 devilgaunts

    150- 15 devilgaunts

    ELITES

    160- 2 zoanthropes with spore

    160- 2 zoanthropes with spore

    150- 3 hive guard

    HEAVY SUPPORT

275- trygon prime, regen, adrenal glands. (the regen and glands are just because I didn't know where else to put the points)

I guess the idea of this list is to make 2x 4 layer phalanxes with a squad of fleshborer gaunts in front, followed by devilgaunts, then either the warriors or hive guard with the tervigons bringing up the rear. The tactic is to use catalyst on the front gaunts for the FNP, and then everything else behind them gets cover saves. The zoe's are pretty obvious.
I know a lot of people naysay on the trygon but i like having synapse and when I use him correctly, he's pretty BA. Though, I could be persuaded to drop him and the tyranid prime for a dakka flyrant.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

just as a note, if you fire onslaught onto a friendly unit, you cannot target anyone with the guns (as per the FAQ).

I would definatly not say drop the trygon, i would rather add more than take any off. The problem i see with this is you have quite a lot of squishy units and possibly not enough hard hitting. The tactic you have looks good on paper but i am sceptical on whether it will work. Even with FNP, many many gaunts will fall within the first turn or so before you get there. The regen on the units though seems good, doesnt always pay off.

Have you played this style before as i am interested in how this works

well the normal termagaunts were supposed to be mostly fodder for everyone in back anyway, the FNP is to make a meat shield meatier. Though i do see your point about the hard hitting units. I guess this is supposed to be an attrition list. if you think it would be better, i could take regen off the tervigons and find 20 points elsewhere and DS the devilgaunts with spores.

in reality, those tervigons will be putting out a lot of extra fire power (just this weekend i managed to run out of gaunt models making 52 from two tervigons). The FNP will give them so extra staying power but i don't think it will be enough to keep you going until you get to them.

The main problem i see with the regen is that if they concentrate fire, then the regen itself will not be reliable enough.

DS the devil gaunts might work, especially if you do manage to make you opponants flee from the devs. I would definatly give this list a try and come back, because personally i have never used a list like this

I'm just saying screw it, I acknowledge that my list has pitfalls, and that you have some good points, but I've got a friendly game against necrons where we are still both competetive enough to challenge each other coming up on wednesday and I'm gonna run this list experimentally, see what happens, and learn from it and go from there.

    I'll post a short write-up as well.
