Okay the poster is basically correct but its not to do with "heavier armor" basically the Empire birdies are inbred, after centuries of breeding under the empire has made them mutated (2 heads) and bigger plus they could have used magic and technology to help them.

this is what we humans can do too cows its easy to imagine empire doing the same with Griffons

The two-headed upgrade is described in WD as a being a hint that while noble, Griffins are still "creatures of chaos"- maybe the Empire's just more willing to use the rare two-headed specimens than the High Elves are.

Being inbred generally makes you weaker and full of defects, not larger and more awesome. And certainly not two-headed.

    Chaos did it.

The big frog leading the lizardmen is called a "Slann" not a "Slaan", the big bird in the Empire is called a "Griffon" not a "Gryphon". The Bretonnian bird is, unfortunately, called a hippogryph.

Actually with breeding programs and breeding for traits and whatnot British farmers doubled the size of cattle over the course of the 18th century alone, there is a big difference between a breeding program to imrpove an animal and inbreeding.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only British.

The behaviour of the high elves really annoys me. Seriously, this guys are so conservative, they make me sick ( lol). They don't have guns, no cannons, no catapults, not even improved long bows, no nothing, just common (or very meh) stuff... If the empire made their griffons more powerful with time, just imagine what the high elves could have done...

Speaking of elves and animal husbandry... I was just reading Defenders of Ulthuan and shortly after Graham described the elves' ability to speak and empathize with their horses, he described several elven horses as "geldings".

That must have been a conversation.

In the new Empire army book, the imperial griffon get +1S, +1W and -1I compared to the elven one, so its profile does reflect the greater size.

I've been looking at the old griffins in the gallery at GW HQ Lenton today- and one thing I noticed is that all the griffins have different head sizes relative to their bodies.

Old Deathclaw has an exceptionally large head and long beak.
Stormwing has a large head, but shorter beak
7e Empire Griffin has a much narrower head, which is smaller than Old Deathclaw's.
Island of Blood griffin has a shorter, but broader, head- with an exceptionally short beak.

8e Empire Griffin has a longer beak, but head is pretty comparable to Island of Blood griffin's- it only looks smaller because of the pose and the chunky body. This is based more on the photos though- the model's not in the gallery yet.
