Does this smell like Gorgonzola to you?

Would you consider it cheese to have two mortis engines in a vampire counts list? I play with a very noncompetitive group and would like to avoid making anyone upset.

    Thank you in advance!

no combo of anything in an 8th ed book is considered cheesy. The books are so well written and balanced, that pretty much no matter what you include (as long as you know what you're doing, of course), you have a chance at winning.

That said, there are combinations that are more powerful than others, and double mortis engine, can be one of those combinations, depending on the rest of your list.

It depends on the rest of the list- 2 mortis engines + some corpse carts- might not be very fun to play against-

2 mortis engines with all zombie core and invospam is pretty good but since it isn't the second coming of 7th edition vc and 5+ regen on your GG isn't as good as 4+ for a third of the points no one would have a problem with it even if it was better than it is.

If the player actually uses the engines aggressively as chariots as well as mobile regen buffs, the army could be quite hard for opponents to deal with (until they come up against all high strength armies like dwarves or WoC, anyway). If they just hide them at the back of the army, they are a lot of points for a buff that can be negated by a 10pt flag or a 2 dice spell.

2 Mortis Engines are around 450pts that's not directly affecting the fight. No, it's overpowered at all. I'd much rather a second Grave Guard horde than one block that's buffed up by 2 Engines.

1 Engine is useful, for the Tome mainly - +6 to cast is really lovely, so is +4 to cast Heroes. 2... nah, just too expensive for not enough (and not reliable enough) benefit.

Its potentially a powerful combination that can make a good army. But I'd have no objections facing it.

our local VC player uses the double mortis engines, and came in 7th at a 80 player GT over the weekend. i wouldn't call it cheesy, but with his strigoi lord, double ghoul blocks, healthy unit of crypt horrors, and ample redirection units, it is a solid army that can really take a tremendous amount of punishment and still hit back extremely hard. i say go for it, and use a little restraint in the rest of your list when playing against buddies. when tournaments come around though, its a great start to a GT winning army imo.

I've done tripple mortis w necrospam on carts.... Not nice when your invo goes off on a d6 roll of a 3....
Plus zombie blocks to shield, and a vc lord w red fury, sword of slaughter works nice.
Have to say its funny to see all three blow up 4th and 5th turns.
Not overpowered as it can ruin your day when they get smashed by a cannon.

Incorrect, anything thats from the Ogre book, is in fact, quite cheesy. Hellheart, price of Ogres, Sabertusks,Maneaters, Leadbelchers and Ironblasters all are a problem that won't be fixed until 9th. -__-

As to the thread, 2 Mortis Engines can be DIRTY if you combo it with a 12-18 man Ghoulkin unit. At that point, they are the best M.I in the game outside of a few niche builds.

Re: Does this smell like Gorgonzola to you?

By Ghoulkin I assume you mean Crypt Horrors? Seeing as you referred to Monstrous Infantry? Why do you need 2 Mortis Engines you make them cheesy? They have 5+ Regen, one Mortis makes that a 4+ Regen (i.e. max), so what does the second Mortis bring?

Infact, for roughly the cost of the two Mortis Engines, you can bring a second unit of 12 Crypt Horrors. I'd say two units of 12 Horrors is vastly better than one unit of 12 with a slightly better Regen.
