My first goblin army, and my first ever fantasy army!

Im having more fun painting these gobbos than any of my 40k armies, I think im a fantasy convert now!

I tend to be going for neatness rather than well shaded etc. Im trying to get them done at a decent speed, when i start layering etc I end up spending hours and hours per model, my space marines are guilty of that. Trying lots of simple edge highlighting with these, hoping just "staying in the lines" is gonna make them look decent enough.

Table is a WIP, got more terrain sat here to paint up for it, garden of morr, watchtower, and some gale force 9 stuff. Im just wanting to get some minis done now

Did more on the spider today, need to do the Houdah thingy and the gobbo crew and its done (and I just realised I havent painted the little spiders crawling out of its body! Doh!)

Continuing my inability to finish something and jumping to the new unit, heres a river troll! (this does however mean that soon countless finished units are going to start flooding in as they are all about %80 done )

A few people saying they like my basing! Which I find mad since I quickly do it and it isnt really scenic. I just want it to be uniform, neat and match my table

But my secret is black lava. I dont like to use grit/sand/slate on small models because it can cover up the feet, and it looks out of scale for mud. Black lava is basically a textured paint that dries glossy, which I then dry brush a few layers of brown paint over. The fact black lava dries glossy means the black bits showing through the brown makes it look "wet" like mud should, then the grass I stick on top just matches! It also means when using colour primers I dont have to go through the really tedius part of trying to paint all the slate black again!

Its basically a bit like gw texture paints, but instead of been £2.30 for 12 ml, it is £4 for 200 ml

I highly recommend it, it makes basing ten times easier!!!

EDIT - for a futher idea of what black lava can do, the river banks are done using it, painted it thick over some lumps of milliputt

I finished the trolls mates! Probably gonna make the unit 6 at some point soon though. I also did a base of snotlings, no idea why, just felt like it!!

The red and blue scheme on the arachnarok works perfectly.
The unit of trolls is great as well, neat painting and good basing. Keep it up !!

Quick update. I rushed a bunch of squigs to have in time for some games, but wish I had take more time. But ah well, the main point of this army is to be painted at a decent speed I guess.

I did make a "Mini mangler squig" for them though

I have gotten annoyed at my army running away at anything scarier than casper the friendly ghost, so ive decided to add some black orcs. I painted a warboss today! I wanted it too look rough as, like an orc should, so I didnt bother with sharp clean highlighting like I usually go for, and tried to paint it rough looking. It came out ok, although i may go for the clean look for the rest of my orcs.

Very nice Black Orc Warboss, the armour/weapons are just dirty enough, while the skin is still "clean and crisp" !

And I feel your pain about gobboes running away : I play a "pure" Night Goblin army, and when/if Animosity leaves me alone, I tend to fail my Ld7 with rerolls check (yes, I "bunch up" my units around my NG Warboss and BSB, sometimes will horrible results, like all the army bar the Squigs fleeing ...).

I reckon I will still play all goblins most of the time, its too much fun due to the randomness to just not do it haha But with my regular player been high elves, having to roll for fear 5 times every combat phase gets old! hehe. I have got Grom half painted, and my mate used the High elf guy who hates Grom as his general, so I should be getting some fluffy goblin/elf fights in soon

Just had a look at your plog, your massive units of gobbos are immense! I thought I was doing well with 35 out of my 50 spearmen block done, but 108! you put me to shame haha! I really like your squig hoppers too, I never thought of using wire to have them in the air. It looks ace! May steal that one!

It's a bit dead right now, I should ressurect it, but my life is hectic at the moment (aced exams, waiting for a response, still searching for works, plus sleeping problems due to stress), so my motivation is at an all-time low ...

And please steal away my "flying hoppers" idea, it's really simple (bit of 1mm wire, drill a small hole in both the squig and the tab glued on the base), but it looks good, methinks (and my opponents/friends agree with me )

my Night goblin spearmen are now done! All 50 of them. Thats 80/130 of my night goblins done now, next is the 50 strong hand weapon/shield ones!
