Some of you may recognise me from the Imperial project logs where I have been working on this Marine army. Every mini was converted and it nearly killed me over the course of about 6 years!
I have long wanted to take on a Chaos army and, now I've finally finished the marines, I thought his was an ideal time. I've always loved the idea of Khorne (but the slightly more subtle Rogue Trader iteration of his World Eaters) and when the SW codex came out I thought this would be perfect for doing a marine army with a super low head count.
I love to convert minis a lot and especially terminator armour. So my plan is to create a very small individual looking Khornate warband consisting of two squads of Khorne's sacred number all wearing terminator armour where the two squads each have a very different personality - one will be lead by a near-as-damn daemon prince (as a brutal looking counts as for Logan Grimnar) leading a more feral looking squad while the other would appear a little more rational, lead by an old World Eaters librarian (as a Wolf Lord counts as) and those in the know will remember that Khorne World Eaters used to have librarians though they just really kept a rough and ready kill count!
Though what to refer to them as… Slaughterwing? Bloodwing, skulking? I think I've pretty much settled on Gorewing in my mind though of course they would never use that name themselves. To further the individual elements of the force I will steadily develop fluff, names and unique wargear for each marine (though really it will all just be renamed SW kit!). I am planning on a very dark and gritty look for this army with a deep red armour (as an excuse to get my airbrush out again) with very worn and battered metalwork.
Now as is traditional with these things here is a picture of my workspace (it also doubles as my studio so in this shot there isn't a mini in sight!)
But enough of that and on with the show!
This is where I first started with some of the 'basic' terminator marines. I really am not a fan of the 'bunny ears' aesthetic so please don't expect to see anything like that here, I want to go for a very dynamic aggressive look with all these minis wearing massive suits of terminator armour.
Here are the first of my, still very WIP, terminators. Bear in mind these are still WIP and mostly just Blu-Tacced together but they are shown here with a human scale mini to give you sense of how much bigger and, more importantly, wider that hey have become with a combination of all the term kits - loyalist, Space Wolf and chaos - and plenty of plasticard and GreenStuff.
Now, much as I envisage the Librarian as appearing relatively rational, unmutated and representative of the martial prowess of Khorne's nature I want him to be vying with the warband's ultimate lord, a feral, half mutated monster of a terminator representing Khorne's aggressive and violent personality aspects.
This is the very beginning of this conversion, which is only just really started if I'm honest and the hips are just balanced in place here. Already the legs are much longer than the other terms. Eventually this minis will have dogleg jointed legs, cloven feet mirroring the classic manifestation of the devil and very hairy as his 'blessings' cause him to erupt out of his armour.
Now with a sacred number of Khorne being 8 I needed to give some thought to how I could swing a Crusader in the army suitable to pack all those terminators in. Now Chaos doesn't have them and I wasn't entirely happy with explaining it away as just a stolen marine crusader so I decided to heavily convert a Land Raider that I hope will represent the key features of a crusader but looking uniquely more brutal and bespoke! But this is just as far as I have got - not very far as you can tell!
I don;t know if anyone can identify any of this but it will be based around the FW Achilles main weapon and the FW Prometheus heavy bolter sponsons. I think that would look suitably analogous to a Loyalist Crusader but just turned up to 10!
This is just a post to start this log off and I will flesh it out with my planned list, wargear lists so you can interpret it all and start to build the fluff as I get on further with the minis. Early days yet but I will be developing this thread and everything in it more and more as time goes by, and anyone of the long time followers from my marine thread will know that I genuinely mean that!
Before anyone mentions it, I know it is trendy to field SW proxy lists at the moment for super-winning-power or some such, but this really isn't me. I don't often game and I'm definitely not very good at it and I just felt this codex using a full Logan-wing force, would give me the modeling scope I crave for!
Keep checking back in as I will be adding to this a lot and looking forward to showing some more substantial progress to give you all a better idea what's boiling around in my head!
Thanks for looking and C&C even this early is always welcome,
