    2.4k Dw@rf list

    Fantasy Army: Dwarfs
    What do you guys think of this list for a 2400 point Fantasy tourny in a couple of months? You can only have a max of 4 war machines, no double rares worth more than 70 pts and no unit with more than 50 models excluding characters.

    All missions in rule book will be played bar the pass one.

    20 rangers with full command

    14 quarrellers with M and S, Shields

    14 quarrellers with M and S, Shields

    grudgethrower with Rune of Penetrating Rune of Reloading & engineer

    grudgethrower with Rune of Penetrating, Rune of Reloading, Rune of Burning & engineer

    Cannon &engineer

    boltthrower with engineer.

    5 bonus dispel dice per turn
    5+ to dispel attempts
    8 points for blood and glory mission
    over 1000 points of core
    comes in at 2400 pts neat
    red text is changes

    any imput is welcome.

    Magic defence is probably OTT. I think you could drop one of the runesmiths, shuffle items around and not be much worse off. Remember that against non-magic-heavy armies, all those points are going to be doing very little.

    Second, Why the bolt throwers? Cannons are much better. Switch them for cannon with rune of forging, and maybe burning.

    Third, and main point, I'm not convinced by your troops choices. You have semi-steadfast blocks (assuming they have shields?) and some crossbows, but nothing that will actually hurt the enemy once combat starts. Remember an Anvil is only any use if you have a hammer coming to help as well - simply put, it's all about the great weapons. How about:
    39 Warriors, GW, FC
    39 Warriors, GW, FC
    20 Rangers, GW, FC (These could be based on crossbowmen or warriors - crossbows are often useful here.)
    For your 1000ish points of core?

    cool thanks for the input,

    the rangers have great weapons and both blocks have shields. i can enlarge both units as i have 25 spare painted warriors

    i have 2 cannons that i can paint but at present i opped to take boltthrowers, which i could take.

    i like all the anti magic, if i cant cast spells then noone can :-) played a vampire army in the weekend and totally shut down his magic! he didnt get a single spell off, it was brilliant

    i have a game on friday vs wood elves to practise on, and will see how this list goes and will look at changing it if needed

    well the game we rolled up was "the watchtower" and i won it in the 5th turn fighting off 16 dryads in the tower. will need to change my bosses stuff as he wasnt hitting very well or wounding, so i will give him the +1ws rune (so he is hitting on 2s most of the time) , +1str rune (which he has) and rune of burning (as he can reroll wounds against people in buildings).

    1st time using rangers and they went brilliant, ran all over the table, drove off some warhawk riders, bashed over a treeman (well took 3 wounds off him and he outran us) smashed the warhawks again trying to protect my general who was fighting them and overran them down!

    anvil of doom was used every turn on regular power moving units around and never misstriked it

    overall a great game just very very tense haha

    I know you said you liked it but way to much anti magic, I play a single runelord on foot at 2k and very rarely do my opponents get off a spell that isn't Irresistable. Cut one smith for sure and add the MR of balance, it by itself is a better defence than another smith. With half this much defence you will be just as magic proof

    Bigger single units of warriors, they wont last long against dedicated close combat units.

    grudge throwers need rune of accuracy i think, makes them amazing.

    @ dwarfboy mmmm i did have them but decided to drop them, im pretty lucky with the scatter dice :-)

    here is the new list:

    runelord- gromril armour, shield, anvil of doom & helmet with rune of dismay
    striking single runes and if the enemy attempt mass charge he can try and prevent it
    runesmith- gromril armour with RoS, shield & helmet with rune of challenge
    try and lure out the unit in the watchtower mission
    thane- hand weapon with rune of striking, cleaving and burning, gromril armour with RoS & a shield
    take care of flammable/regenerating things, also reroll wounds against people in buildings
    BsB- gromril armour & battle standard with rune of valaya
    helps with the dispelling and most important model as their is no real general in list

    (25) dwarf warriors- full command, heavy armour & shields

    (25) dwarf warriors- full command, heavy armour & shields

    (25) dwarf warriors- full command, heavy armour & shields

    (20) dwarf rangers- full command, heavy armour & great weapons

    (14) quarrellers- m+s light armour & shields
    shooting small units to panic them, and to protect war machines
    grudgethrower- rune of penetrating x2, rune of reloading & engineer
    elite unit killer! engineer rerolls misfire table results of 1s and reloading rune keeps it going
    grudgethrower- rune of penetrating, rune of reloading & engineer
    back up to elite killer, same stuff as above
    cannon- rune of reloading & engineer
    engineer rerolls 1-2 and rune keeps her going!
    boltthrower- rune of burning & engineer
    back up to flamming thane and monster killer 1st, then unit breaker after xbows take their shots
    +4 extra dispel dice
    4+ dispelling
    8 standards
