    Military Orks! Protect the armory!

As with many crazed meks, we often get that one idea in our head that just wont go away, try as we might fight it with other projects we keep wandering back. For me, it was Orks, Military themed orks. Not bloodaxes with just different camo schemes, but a full military themed army where the group preferred the Uniform and Rank to just 'trying to be sneaky'. So I wound up starting my wild adventure with a mechanized list, essentially an ork steel legion.

The plan is in list wise (1kpts)
General _Name not yet thought of_ (Big Mek) Kustom force field, 'Eavy armor, Cybork Body, Attack squig, and Burna.
(he is to be modeled as an ork "kommisar'

He is in a trukk of 10 shoota boyz + nob with bosspole and power claw and a rokkit launcha, modeled after german stormtroopers with trenchcoats and german helms. In a looted chimera (trukk w/ armor plates) which will have the rear hatch cut off, no turret and a light 'field kannon' where the heavy bolter would be.

Then theres a squad of 11 Boyz 'sluggas' + nob w/ bosspole and power claw and rokkit (modeled after ww1 British trenchers with shovels and handtools and pistols) in a similar 'armored trukk'

The next squad is a group of 11 shoota boyz + nob w/ bosspole and power claw and rokkit (modeled after us paratroopers with backpacks and helms) in a trukk barebones modeled after a 'deuce and a half'

The final squad of boyz is 11 shoota boyz + nob w/bosspole and power claw and rokkit (modeled after an elephant gun) with the squad being modeled as a group of 'poaching safari hunters' some being austrailian outback rangers, some pith helmed british safari hunters and some british 'zulu' style colonials In a trukk modeled as a safari poaching vehicle.

The final two parts to the army are two looted wagons with boomguns, each will be modeled on a chimera hull with a large gun out the hull (like the laser tank destroyer)/hetzer

So far theres been a fair bit of work on the characters and the kustom force field token.

It is a bit large but I kind of went overboard on my mek'ly conversion. I wanted it to be instantly recognizable and Look like a mobile field power and shield generator. The 'big mek' himself is more or less an ork general, a nob that has risen through the ranks and is not quite yet a boss, serving his warboss faithfully. Instead of making the tech himself he orders the meks in the motor pool to build these things for him, relying on the equipment rather than having a hand in it.
Also rules wise the force field is measured from the big meks base not the token, its there mostly for show, (And because I had no room on the big mek model) But it does have some advantages, if it gets in the way I can just put it to the side, and I can have the thing placed behind the vechile hes in to show that that's the one the field is coming from.

Heres a closer look at the mud base, custom sculpted (the flash makes it look brighter than it is). I decided to do something fun with the bases, im not the most proficient myself, before I used to be content with just flock but at my local store, so many players make amazing bases so I wanted to try something different but still understated. I went for a muddy theme and sculpted greenstuff for it, then I make it shiny with the use of gloss varnish.

Heres a fun combination shot of my first ork kaptain (Not finished yet needs some paint touch up) and the kff's progress for scale, and next to a sent for scale.

Also a close up of kaptain 1, still needs work though. Hes to lead the British trenchers

Re: Military Orks! Protect the armory!

Heres the work so far on the "General" Big mek.

Started with the same microartstudio ork kaptain bodys but wanted to give him a more commisar feel, of course with my meager skills managed to only pull off a beaten chest plate and a sash.

Eventually I started working on his equipment.
The Armor aspect has been covered but He needed a good sword. The burna was the answer to this, it can be used as a power weapon the turn its not used as a flamer so I figured I could model it as a power weapon first, burna second. For such an orky weapon he needed an orky power source, hence the large fuel and power tank on his back. Thats the main reason I couldn't model the kustom force field on him as well..

Now the head is a stand-in as the real one is still in the post, but I needed to have a head on him for when I take him to a tourny later this month so Ill just paint up a spare and blue tack it to him.

also a couple of more views of the tank
