Deployment & Magic
We Started with generating spells and I got; Curse of the Years, Raise Dead and invocation on Veroniqa, Frederick chose Invocation. He got curse of da bad moon, itchy nuisance, sneaky stabbin’ and gift of the spider god for his level 4, and hand of gork and ‘eadbutt on his savage shaman. We played a standard pitched battle and deployed as follows:
The characters deployed like this; Veroniqa in the skeleton regiment, Frederick and the wraith in one of my zombie hoards. He deployed his general and BSB in his large unit of night goblins, his savage shaman in the big ‘uns and his level 4 goblin in the night goblin archer mod.
VC Turn 1
After deployment my dire wolves made their vanguard move, indicated by the yellow arrow. We then rolled off to see who got the first turn. I won and began moving my battle line forward. The wolves moved swiftly into the forest, taking a good next turn charge position on the rock lobber and doom diver. The Terrorgheist flew up on the hill, ready to scream the hoppers to death and the Varghulf moved swiftly on the opposite flank. In the magic phase I raised a few zombies in both my hoards and tried to cast curse of the years on the savages but he dispelled it. The Terrorgheist then proceeded to scream the hoppers to death just as I planned.
OnG Turn 1
The battle hadn’t even begun until the goblin archers failed their animosity test and began to squabble some fierce, locking them and the great shaman in place for this turn! Shocked by the sudden death of the squig hoppers, he charged his wolf chariot into my terrorgheist on the hill. However, as soon as the fragile goblin construction reached the hill it crashed and sufferd a mighty six wounds on a failed terrain test! Face palmed, my opponent then proceeded to move his savages up the middle to meet the advancing undead hoard. The goblins moved up to protect the spear chukka from the varghulf.
In the magic Phase he casted a ‘eadbutt at Veroniqa but her lucky amulet protected her from harm! He then planned to hand-of-gork his giant behind my lines and cast the spell successfully, however he didn’t roll high enough so the giant ended up in front a zombie hoard.
The rock lobber then proceeded to miss its mark, but the doom diver hit home, killing 4 Grave guards. The Spear Chukka on the right flank tried to protect the other war machines, but had a hard time hitting the wolves among the trees. The chukka on the left flank hit home on the Varghulf, but the beast regenerated all damage and proceeded forwards!
VC Turn 2
At the start of my second turn I didn’t waste time but declared a charge with my wolves against the rock lobber. The terrorgheist swooped down from the hill and charged the lone spear chukka. Meanwhile on the other flank the Varghulf and the black Knights both charged the goblin regiment and the zombie charged the giant in front of them. While moving, the night goblins released their fanatics (represented by small fire balls and grey arrows) against my lines! The fanatics killed one black knight and put a wound on the varghulf. I then proceeded to move the rest of my force forwards at a slower pace.
In the magic phase I managed to raise more zombies and restore the killed grave guards. I againt tried to cast curse of the years but once again it was dispelled!
In close combat my terrorgheist tore the spear chukka and its crew completely apart! The wolves slaughtered the rock lobber crew and proceeded to over run into the doom diver. On the opposite flank my knight and varghulf killed more than enough goblins, however thanks to their steadfast nature, they held their ground! The giant ate a zombie and the zombie put a wound on the giant.
OnG Turn 2
In all the commotion, the night goblin archers again failed their animosity test and began a new squabble among them selves! The savages couldn’t hold back, failed their frenzy check and charged my zombies, dragging my grave guards along into the fight! The fanatics started to spread out, one crashed in a hill and one turned back towards the goblin line, killing five night goblins! My opponent then moved his squig herds up against my line and turned his big block around to face the wolves.
In the magic phase he threw all his three dices at a hand of gork spell which I successfully dispelled!
The two alive spear chukkas missed their marks and with no other shooting available we moved on to close combat. My wolves killed the doom diver crew with ease, and in the centre the savages bashed the head of several zombies, however, thanks to the combined efforts of Frederick, the wraith and the grave guards I won combat by one point! The savages held their ground, but had gotten a lot of their strength beaten out of them!
On the flank, the common goblins finally broke and fled, my varghulf chased them down and the knights restrained pursuit and reformed to charge the goblins next turn.
VC Turn 3
I charged the goblin archers in the flank with my knights, and charged my wolves right into his goblin hoard hoping to get some lucky wounds on his BSB, after eating two war machines the wolves had more than made their points back so I figured, why not? The fanatics continued to kill them selves, one in a wood and the other in another wood. The terrorgheist moved back towards the centre of the board eager to join the fight!
In the magic phase I only rolled four dices for winds of magic and used all of them to cast invocation of nehek to restore some grave guards and zombies.
Surprised by the sudden charge in the flank by a regiment of undead knights the faint hearted goblins were simply too scared to hold their ground, the knights trampled nine to death and the rest fled through the non existing goblin battle line. The knights didn’t roll high enough to catch them and they got away, ending up just in front of the terrorgheist! Will this nightmare never end?! The warboss snikkit da lucky made short work of the approaching wolves, striking them all down before they had a chance to attack!
OnG Turn 3
The goblin war host was now in total chaos! For the forst time in his not too long life, Snikkit didn’t really kniw what to do next. He ordered his squigs to charge the skeletons head on and managed to rally the fleeing archers and the level 4 shaman.
In a desperate last attempt, the night goblin shaman threw six dices and a powered up curse of da bad moon. He cast it with irresistible force, sending a mighty green vortex of doom and death towards the undead lines. In the process he blew up four of his mates, however the big green vortex was just too impressive to the small green skins to even notice! The vortex ripped through the skeletons and zombies killing a mighty 14 skeletons and a handful of zombies and the last wound on the giant!
In close combat, Veroniqa von Carstein quickly disposed of nine squigs on her own and the Drakenhof levy disposed of eight more. The surviving squigs chewed their way through nine skeletons, but it wasn’t enough! They broke and rolled snake eyes for their flee move, the skeletons rolled three, just catching them! Meanwhile, Frederick von Carstein mercilessly slew the savage orc shaman, and with their precious warpaint reduced they took a heavy beating from the grave guards and the wraith, they too fled, but managed to get away!
VC Turn 4
Feeling victory drawing near, Veroniqa charged her skeleton regiment into the goblin archers and ordered the black knights to charge the last spear chukka and had her pet terrorgheist charge the remaining goblin archers as well. The sight of the terrorgheist heading towards them was too much for the small goblins and they fled in terror. They didn’t roll high enough however, and was caught and destroyed! The grave guards charged the fleeing savages and pushed them of the table. The Varghulf charged the last spear chukka on the hill.
In the magic phase the destroyed skeletons was re-animated and back to fight again!
The black knights killed the chukka crew and overran into the last goblin mob. And on the flank the varghulf ripped the crude goblin made war machine apart.
OnG Turn 4
Snikkit da lucky refused to surrender! He hadn’t lost a fight in his life and was not about to begin now! He threw himself against the black knights and killed three of them! The retaliation however was extreme! Snikkit took a blow from the Hell knights cursed blade and fell to the ground as a dry husk. The goblins held with the help of the BSB.
VC Turn 5
Veronica von Carstein now charged her skeletons into the remaining goblins and after a brutal beating, they fled and was run down by the pursuing knights! A crushing massacre victory to the Vampires!
