    Wood Elves from far,far away

    Hi
I`m planing to starts another WF blog with WE , which i like , even they are getting good pounding from the other armys
Bought myself a Battalion Box and .... starting to planing color scheme , fluff etc . Doing some few convertions . using different (from GW) models and generly try to collect, paint and paly my FIRST game with the boys ( after collecting Skavens,Ogres,VC and WE hopefully I can finish ONE damn army ) . Im learning how to paint with airbrush , which is gooood fun and speed-up a proccess really good. My point is to use it much as possible and learn some decent skills with it .

Nevertheless here`s some first (and not good ) pictures of my progress so far :

My big boi has been striped from the paint (Detol rules, but black primer is a pain :/) and cos i don`t like the GW treeman , i thought i will give it a go , eve my sculpting skill dosent exist . but i will do my best . Will use mosty green stuff and try to do some branches and roots , plus , the belly will be a prison ;-) and i will put some spirits around the big guy to give him a bit more WE look

Cool idea using the giant for a treeman. I love my Woodies, they have some fantastic models but they are hard to play well. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more

Re: Wood Elves from far,far away

Ive have some ideas in my head about the way he should look , but like i said , my skills are pretty poor so try to do my best
This "thing" on he`s back it`s from Skaven plague catapult , and it`s the "source" of Treeman mutation ! The big boi will be "infested" from halfway up ( to lazy to do the legs ) . Soooooo , he`s hump will be growing to the/around his head (that`s the plan) .... i`m running low on green stuff so will have to wait till stauff is harden . Few more pictures but , only a begining

    Hi
it`s been a whole week ,where i try to do some much needed job on my woodish boyz . Let`s say i manage to do some painting and converting . I will start with Dryad`s - done in 90 % ( leafs and basing left ) , done them with airbrush and some washes (wood color) , spirits , "wood bark" with layering painting . For base i`ve use Texture paint - Armagedon dust - quite fun , and im to lazy to play again with white glue - grain - sand - white glue - paints etc .... The texture paint it`s not perfect , it`s expensive for big models and armies but i like the process of spreading the paint (lol) . I hope U like them (pictures are not great) :

And here`s my big boi - manage to make him almost like i want it to look . happy with my poor sculpting skills , now some last clean up`s , wash in bubbles and start thinking about painting scheme ( roots, skin , cloats parts ) . Any ideas ? Should i add some more details ? Let me know ;-) C & C are most welcome !

Good start on the treeman. It's always nice to see something different like that.

The Dryads look nice too. Keep it up!

And started my Tree-man. Primed with Vallejo Gray primer , and paint flesh with Tallaran Flesh . Now i have to work this out , with brown roots and i will try to do nice transition : darker where all the roots are coming out on the body - going lighter towards big parts of skin and blending nicely to the skin ... i know it`s sound better in my mind ( with picture ) I`ll do my best ;-) As well , i have start the weapon ( need some weathering , and try to get the look of "something ripped from the ground" )

    This is looking cool.

The finished dryads are really nice - very crisp painting.

The tree-giant is just an awesome concept, and you're certainly doing it justice from what I can see so far. Regarding the growth, maybe do some googling for images of tree diseases or fungus for inspiration. I feel like wood elf armies benefit from a few patches of vibrant colour to offset all the earth tones - so this might be the perfect excuse to introduce some while still keeping the "natural" look. Nature can be weird sometimes.

Great idea for the treeman, it's coming along very nicely.
edit: maybe you could paint the growth like a knobbly mass of bark, then bring yellow and green to it with some washes.

Goood idea , i was thinking to do it yellow/green thing , but more curious about main color ... cos the whole concept is : skinish - brown , spirits are blue to give another point and some differences , but i NEED some grenish colors as well . My thought was to do growth greenish / yellowish . Maybe dark green , rotten green ;-)

and here are a few things to cheer me up , which i bought today ;-) ( glazes , Model Air and some VC V/CH for my Treekin conversion - in future and some semi-wet weathering pigments ( looks more like womens eye shadow) :

Re: Wood Elves from far,far away

    Hi
I have managed to almost finish the skin tone and "roots/bark/growth" . The skin is yellowish , so we can say he starting to change to a tree (?!) ... roots still need some deep with green washes , but this once growth on his back is done . I`ll go with green/brown and try to finish yellowish (just the prominent tops) .... face still need some re-touches and touches ( had some problems with New Citadel glazes :/ they r tooo strong in my opinion :/ ) ... and the bigest problem -the gap on his side :/ just wasn`t bower to do it properly , now i`ll pay the price ... looks awfull . Few photos , hope U will like it . Please C&C ,help needed Cheers

Re: Wood Elves from far,far away

This is my problem ... when i start something , i just can finish it :/ and later have big problems to come back to it.
So I did , like i said . I started my Treekin conversion , using Crypt Horrors - sharpen up all the muscles and fingers , add some roots to his feet , change his evil face , add some "hair" and horns , some branches and there it is Hope U like it . Some C & C are most welcome . If U have any ideas what else I can add on to it , please , share with me !

And manage "the growth" on the Tree man back , once finish i`ll put some gloss into it .C&C please!

Wow these are great, the treeman had me hooked, the treekin made form crypt horror is just all gravy; looks so good, grisly and insidious, not crazy about the face on the treekin though think it should be more twisted and gnarled like the rest of the miniature, maybe something like the old treemen model with wood-like skin and pointed teeth, and more skull like.

Re: Wood Elves from far,far away

@Kronos - thx , i`m glad U like it. I don`t like the GW Treeman and Treekin models :/ so i try to make something new - i have some ideas but lacking skill of patience and clumsy fingers do not help. I did my best . I`m quite happy with face :/ i want it really blunt - like stump wood /pan style

Here all three of them , quite happy , still need some cleaning , improve bases and after primer i can check for small touches like mold lines , fragments and mistakes . Please, C&C most welcome !

looking really good, big fan of that giant conversion to a treeman, always been a fan of wood elves and was on the border of doing them till i play tested some games and realised just how out of date the army book was, your conversions make me super tempted to start up again though, can't wait to see more

Man oh man. 10 points for originality. I sympathize with your trouble in finishing something. I have the same issues. But dude, you have something so awesome in your hands now, you must finish. The Treekin are cool. I personally prefer the original models but they deffo don't look like Vargheists anymore. The Treeman is simply amazing, the skin tone is otherworldly.
