    This always makes me smile:

Also a friend of mine swears it was in the original Command and Conquer.

Actually, Wilhelm Scream would be a great name for a villain. Possibly one with a crossbow and a command of rhetoric. "So I manage to find cover and what does he do? He starts monologuing!"

How the bad guys are always British.

Any film with an actor that is too good for it. Usually that means we are in for a lot of scenery chewing. Double the amount if the actor is the villain. Or british.

Not a trope as such, but a film that clearly respects its audience.

Thats because we're all megalomaniacal conquerors hell-bent on recapturing the past glory of the British Empire!

Or possibly because an english accent just sounds evil?

Wait, so the posh, educated voice of an intelligent person = evil? That explains a lot about American thinking.

Yep, if you ever meet someone who went to Eton or Cambridge (university that is) you'll find that most are inherently evil.

Probably has more to do with the fact that the British were the bad guys in the history of the nation making the movie.

Russ: Yeah, I know! Magnus is a traitor! To think that he could accuse our beloved brother Horus of turning against us. Impossible! But don't worry. I have taken care of it, Horus asked me to destroyed Prospero and I have. Magnus shouldn't be bothering us again.
Lion: ... actually, I was going to say that Magnus was right. Horus has turned to Chaos, 7 other Legions have joined him and he has destroyed 3 Loyal Legions already!

I thought it was the inherent pompousness/arrogance of the accent that lent a villainous air to it

Lol, being confident in what you know is pompous but deliberately trying to be a stupid ignorant is fine. I hate people. So insecure about themselves that they lash out at other people.

I like righteous fury. 'Justified' anger where you are entirely in the right. And then kick some ass. On the other hand this is abused a lot in film by creating a really contirved scenario just to ellicit this. Taken is an example. I loved it, but it's really a 'foreign is bad' film.

I can't really think of other tropes that are standout likes for me, I like them all in the right context.

After having spent entirely too much time reading tropes on TVTropes, watching any Star Trek series becomes...difficult. They are still enjoyable, but, now I notice all the tropes and sometimes, the 'drama' is more amusing than it should be.

This line isn't meant to be taken seriously, is it? Or is the contradiction unintentional?
