Great eagle
so if you've been reading carefully you'll see that i got 2 hero's on GE with 2+ ward against flaming attacks. i was going to use both of them to tie up his 700 point blood knights with BSB.
we played the scenario where you cut the table at a 45 degree angle? know which one? anyways, i deployed first, then him, i was in a rush as i had to go home, so i rushed him a bit here too.
i deployed (from left to right) scouts in front of one unit of dryads, other dryads beside them in forest, both heros on GEs with archers behind (mage with archers) and my lord and treeman on the right flank.
he had (from my left to my right) 5 wolves, his blood knights with vampire, big unit of wolves with LVL vampire, zombies, zombies, ghouls with ghoul king.
Turn 1
VC turn:
he goes first, moves everything up (a little too cautiously i think). magic nothing.
WE turn:
i move up also cautiously. my great eagle moves behind one unit of zombies. i shoot almost everything at his large block of wolves and kill 5.
Turn 2
VC turn:
moves his LVL 2 vampire with blood knights (this was a mistake but he couldn't have known that at the time, he was trying to keep his vampire save from my archers). declares charge with wolves into my scouts, i flee, he fails to redirect so they're stuck there. again he moves up cautiously? i did not understand this but was happy as i was able to dictate the flow of the whole game.
WE turn:
i declare charges. this is where he was caught off guard. both my heros charge his blood knights. he's thinking i'm insane as they will get eaten alive, but he doesn't know i have 2+ ward against flaming attacks on both my heros. i declare a charge with my lord into his ghould king (i made a small mistake here) and so does treeman. dryads fail to make charge against 5 lone wolves way off alone.
my lord drinks potion of strength and i'm about to teach his vampire a lesson (he's been boasting about how his ghould king will kill anything before it even has a chance to attack) and accept swith his ghast!?!?!?!? i'm like why? he says he's worried cause i drank potion of strength. now i'm worried as PoS only lasts one phase! he instead kills my treeman with his ghould king (poor treeman didn't even get a chance to attack) and my lord cuts his ghast into ribbons (5 wounds). i lose, take a LD test on 7 but pass! he holds.
one hero declares a challenge against his BSB. he accepts. i attack, i think maybe inflict a wound, but not a big deal. he attacks back, is happy as a pig in $hit when he inflicts like 9 wounds, but then is shocked when he realises both have 2+ ward save against flaming attacks (which his whole unit has thanks to flaming banner on BSB). i save everything! i win by like 1 or 2, a couple more crumble. he is pi$$ed!!!
Turn 3
VC turn:
he tries to flank my heros with wolves but doesn't have charge arc. everything else shuffles up.
my heros continue to win by 1 crumbling another 50 point blood knight. no wounds back.
it gets interesting. i declare a challenge with lord, has to accept with ghould king. i get a bit lucky and inflict 2 wounds. he gets made when he realises he needs 6s to hit (annoyance of nettlings!). he only inflicts 2 back. MY LORD IS STILL ALIVE!!! take a LD test on 7, pass (whew). i got one more turn to kill him.
my heros continue to nibble away at his vampires and blood knights. he has like 2 left i think by this point.
WE turn:
position my dryads to cut off his zombies/wolves from reaching my glade gaurd. i made the best move of the game here (i think) by moving my LVL 3 closer to my lord. wasn't sure what i was going to do, but did it anyways.
magic phase, cast 3+ attacks and 3+ strength on my lord, he fluffs his dispell attempt!! my lord inflicts a monstrous 6 wounds on his ghould king! we go to my heros, i get lucky and finish off the rest of the blood knights and his 2 vampire heros! my dryads crash into his zombies, mauling them, my other dryads kill his large unit of wolves (easily) and my other dryads kill the last unit of wolves (easily). he has one strong unit of zombies left and a small dieing unit, with no characters left
he calls it here.
WE massacre!
I lost treeman and 1 drayd.
he basically lost his whole army.
i have to emphasise at this point that i did tool up my character specifically to fight his army. plus with the knowledge of what magic items he had, i definitely had an advantage. however, even with that said, this list has served me well and i did not completely revamp it for this game, thus proving WE can be competitive!
also, somewhere in there i rallied scouts and archers killed some woves/zombies. whatever . . .
