A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

    Hello everyone,

As a new-(ish) member of Warseer I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread tracking my Ork army progress.

I already have a solid base of Orks painted for both 40k and Epic (which I'll post photo's of at a later date), but I thought it might be best to start with my most recently completed item: My 40k Battlewagon.

I chose to paint the majority of the vehicle rusty metal since this is how I painted my Epic vehicles and thought it would be really pleasing if they matched. Luckily the large amount of metal looks okay (I was worried it would look a bit silly), and I reckon it looks pretty Orky!

    Hello everyone,

Today I'm starting an Ork Deff Dread, which is a really nice model. However as soon as I ripped open the box I was met with a dilemma: I plan to scratch build an Epic Gargant using left over bitz, so I can't just use all of my favourite bitz to build the dread= it's taking ages to decide!

While I decide and build my Dread, here's photos of 2000pts worth of my Ork Epic, Enjoy :

    Hi,

So today (as a break from building my deff dread (update on my Blog)), I decided to make and paint some counters for Epic. I used Fimo modelling putty. They are pretty small (smaller than a 5p) which should look tidy on the table.

Here are some that are finished:

Hope you like them : )

Wow. Just skimmed over your blog after seeing these, excellent stuff on there. Will make time later this week to read it all!

Love the blue scheme for epic orks, it think it works really well at that scale, really makes the orks pop! Might have to 'steal' inspiration from the da morkinator once I have finished up my current project!
    Cant wait to see more!

    Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. It's nice know that people are interested and Razormasticator- I'll defo check out your deffskullz

So, I'm still working on the Deff Dread. I thought in the mean time I'd work on back-blogging parts of my army I've already done.

Firstly, here's my Big Mek. I put a relatively large amount of effort into this guy since I love the model. it was also my 1st attempt at directional lighting:

The second thing I'd like to share today is some of my Grotz! I seriously love Gretchin, they have never let me down in a game (well, except that ONE time...) and they have a ton of character. However in contrast to the Mek these were speed painted:

I've also uploaded a picture of my warboss over on my blog

Very nice and always good to see more EPIC making its way onto Warseer.

I relaly like the blue on your orks, it provides a really nice contrast and stands out from the more usual reds or yellows.

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

    Thank's for your encouragement

At first I wasn't sure about choosing blue (I did a few test models in yellow and in oranges), but I'm glad I did now.

Todays update is Boyz. My ultimate aim for the Orks is to have enough units that I can 'pick and mix' when gaming. I'm hoping that by using variety of lists and units it will a) Make me a better gamer and b) be a lot of fun. However, I definitely want a foot slogger list to be one of my options and in order for this to be possible...I need lots of boyz.

    So, here are some boyz:

    Also...on a small tangent...
A unit I'm working on converting up at the moment is Mega Nobz. I love the concepot of them, but am worried they are super expensive and fragile...Any advice on what unit size is most effective?

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

Gorgeous Boys here... I like how they have just enough Blue to make it known that they are Deff Skulls.

Black Cat. I don't have a ton of experience with Mega Nobs, but I find that a unit of 5+ is really where they function best.
You want them to be able to weather a casualty or two and still be able to apply the hurt. Kombi Skorcha's are super valuable as well.
I prefer them to Kombi Rockits. The Mega Nobs make a good body guard to a big mek in a wagon. I own 6 Meganobs, think I want 4 more so I can run a unit of ten.
But they are pricey, both game wise and GW wise.

Cheers for the advice Razormasticator. Cool, I was thinking a unit of 7, 3 with Skorcha's would be pretty bad ass, but maybe I'll play test 5 first. I actually really like the GW models, but the price is way out of my (studenty) budget. Even on eBay they go for loads! I'm planning to make some from Nobz, a lot of plasticard, greenstuff and TLC instead...Fingers crossed they work I can just imagine a battlewagon's wheels spinning in the mud due to the weight of a unit of meganobz

A friend of mine, who incidentally is also starting up EPIC orks, has juut been painting one as a show piece (here: http://miniaturemiscellany.wordpress...-ork-finished/ ) and says that they are lovely models to paint.

Still the great thing about Orks is that with enough plasticard you can make anything!

Your friends blog is pretty sweet- thanks for sharing.

I find metal models much easier to paint than plastic. Shame they cost a small fortune and are being phased out. D'oh!

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

Just stopped by to watch your Epic stuff. It is truly gorgeous. I think Orks are one of the funniest armies to collect, because if you have a little Mek-boy know-wotz, there are so many opportunities, like that Rhino with a Supa-gun. The Supa-stompa looks ace, too, and it is hard to guess that it is really made of 40K bitz. You have got a very good-looking start to your army.

For your 40K stuff, I simply take off my hat and make a bow. You are a superb painter. Thanks for sharing.

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

    Hi,

Thank you for your kind feedback.

I really enjoy painting epic models, I'm hoping to do more soon (including a gargant). I just wish buying Epic terrain wasn't so expensive!

So today I thought I'd share some of my Madboyz. I know Madboyz no longer have rules, but I thought they would be a cool modelling opportunity. Also the fluff for Madboyz is awesome, and too good to refuse!

My plan is to have a suicide Truk (which will be heavily converted to look suitably mad...) full of Madboyz which will storm ahead of the army, generally confuse the opponent, before finally dying happily amongst their pile of treasures.

Here are some pictures of how the squad is coming along:

I also (rather happily) discovered today I have a full tray of Boyz painted and based!:

Hope you like them more soon!

And as a slight side note, I've added a little tutorial of how I take my photos over on my blog.

Really nice stuff, mate, on here and your blog.

Sweet epic models. Nice basing and bold colours! Simple, effective and functional terrain, too.

How did you paint the epic scale banner? Is it all by hand?

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

    Hi,

Thanks zoggin-eck (good name!). I did the epic banner by hand using a gw fine detail brush. I really enjoy doing freehand (got loads on my space wolves army (pics on my gaze of mork blog)). Ork freehand is relatively easy, since if it looks messy it's just 'orky'

    Hey,

I've been working on my unit of Nobz. I've played a few games with nobz and they have always stolen the show with their brutality. However, they key member of the unit is without doubt the Painboy. He not only gives the unit Feel No Pain, but is also a great model. I unfortunatly got the finecast version, so had to replace the finer bits of the syringes with paperclips...but I think it was worth the effort.

    Here he is:

Over on my Blog I've also written an opinion article about the negatives of list writing, if any of you are interested. I'd be really interested in hearing your opinions
