Really like the painting on these. Nicely done and great colour balance. The little tweaks are a nice touch. You've got the warpaint sorted too (think I might have a go at that now).

Blue on Orks. It's the ONLY way

Epic deathskullz, you've made me very happy, espcially with that fantastic deep blue, superhighlghts and glowing orange.

the 40k stuff is pretty shiny too, very clean painting.

Hi everyone, Sorry for the gap in posting, I've had a busy week (including an interview ). But I'm back in the blogging zone now. Today I thought I'd share my Nobz. My Nob unit has never disappointed in game, its fun, resilient and packs one heck of a punch. So here they are:

More shots on my blog. I also had a trip to Warhammer world yesterday for the 1st time and played some Epic in the gaming hall, so a battle report is pending. AND I finally finished the deff dread I've been working on, I just need to base it, so that will be posted soon too

I was going for red on my orks but yesterday decided to go with blue. Was browsing all night looking for good examples. And now you post your good looking blue nobs as inspiration. Many thanks! Looking forward to see your deff.

Great work, well painted and colours seem kinda natural and just great colour balance overall like Abraham Danglebreech mentioned.

    Hey,

Thank you for the encouragement. I think one thing that ties the models and the colours together is that I use desert yellow as the highlight for the base, clothing and skin tone! It's a tip I picked up during A-level art

Nice looking orks, the blue is very well executed and looks properly dirty and 'rugged'.

    Hi,

Thanks for the comments everyone, very much appreciated.

So I’ve made good progress with my Deff Dread, it’s done! I’ve only got to do the basing and it will be set to stomp on the battlefield! I’m pleased with how how he turned out, and think the rust effect worked a bit better than on the battlewagon.

    Here it is:

I also recently went to Warhammer World in Nottingham for the first time, and played Epic in the gaming hall. It was super fun, and the Orks got to do loads of 'ead bashin'.

    Here's a photo of setup:

My Gunwagon horde ready for battle:

And my Kult of Zooom! ready too:

I've put more details of the game/pic's on my blog, if your interested.

And I've finally got in touch with my inner Mek, and began converting a kids toy tractor into a Trukk, I'll post pictures of this soon

Cheers xedric! I checked out your Ork blog, some great construction work, and the stompa is shaping up to be truly awesome!

My orginal plan was to concentrate on building/painting standard models until I have a solid base of Orks to play with, before slowly convert/build things...but I couldn't resist!

So as promised, here are some work-in-progress shots of my Trukk construction.

It began life as this tractor, which cost a grand total of 20p secondhand:

I had to dismantle it using a screw driver, and stripped it back to just the wheels:

I then set about building up the trukk using a mixture of plastic card, metal drinks can and ork bitz:

Here is the finished product, You'll notice i decided to re-attach the tractor scoop:

I also used the tractor seat, which luckily suits the ork driver suprisingly well. I added bitz from the deff dread kit to make the seat look more detailed. The bar you can see in the background was built using sprue's, wrapped in tin foil. The gunner was built using battlewagon bitz, and the grot was added to make it look a bit more dynamic:

    Here's the side view:

I'm busy painting it up, so I'll upload pictures when its done

    More soon!

Trukk is looking good. Can i ask what colors you used to get that bare metal look on the deff dread where the paint is chipped away etc.
Like on the left side of the tusk/tooth?

So, to paint the tusk it was: 1. Basecoat black, 2. Undercoat Charred Brown (Vallejo Game colour), 3. Dry brush Boltgun metal (GW paint), 4. Dab on Parasite brown (Vallejo Game colour), 5. Lightly dry brush Hawk Turquiose (Vallejo Game colour) and 6. lightly dry bush mithril silver (GW paint).

    Is that helpful?

I finished painting my homemade Trukk. I plan to make lots of these hashed together trukks, so I can (affordably) play around with Trukk spam occasionally. For a first attempt, with minimum GW bitz, I think it has turned out pretty good. It's not perfect and future trukks will have more side details to distort the vehicle silhouette, but it was good fun todo and was an interesting learning curve. It's also really sturdy, so transporting it will be super easy.

    So here are the pictures:

Hope you like it. I'm going to work on Shoota boyz next, so keep your eyes peeled...though I can't promise I won't get distracted!

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

‘ Right boyz, ‘erez what your gonna do. Take these bitz of ragz, made special, like the surroundin’z, put ‘em on your ‘ead, sneak right up to da ‘oomins and shoot’em up real good.’ sneared Nob Fang Damme, pointing at the two boxes in front of him. One of the boxes contained Shootaz, the other camouflage nets. None of the gathered boyz moved.

‘Sneakin’? Ain’t that a bit...not orky Boss. I want to thump ‘em, not play hide ‘en sneak with ‘em.’ A boy named Wortzod replied, clearly confused.
Fang Damme roared with laughter, he had hoped for that response. He picked up a shoota, spat on the ground, aimed at nearby grot and fired, leaving a bloody smear where the grot had stood. ‘You boyz, clearly ‘aven’t shot one ov dese close range. And if any ov your shoots miss, you can thump ‘em aswell.’
At that, the boyz all surged forward, diving at the two boxes. Fang Damme watched the chaos happily, ‘dis is gonna be a good mob’ he thought as he watched one boy rip off another’s ear in the frenzy, ‘a good mob indeed’.

    Hi again,
So I've started a new unit, a unit of shoota boyz. I wanted these to stand out from the unit of choopa and madboyz on the battle field. I decided a good way to do this would be by adding some camoflage cloaks.

So here is the 1st shoota boy:

I also entered my Big Mek into a painting competition at GW on Saturday, and he came 3rd, which I was pleased with.

Congrats on the 3rd place with your Big Mek!
Wow, the shoota boy is brilliant. And thanks for the tip on the metal painting above. Sounds complicated and not something my meager skills would be able to emulate. But it gives me an idea with the browns.

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

    Thank you Razormasticator : )

At the moment I've been continuing work on my unit of shoota boyz. So far I have 10 made and primed (including a big shoota), and three painted.

Here are the two I've just finished painting:

I'm pleased with how this unit is shaping up, and making cloaks (from bandages) is way easier than I expected.

I'm also working on a Weirdboy, which is lots of fun. I'll post pictures of him ASAP.

I'm away on holiday for a week, so I won't be posting until around the 12/05/12

bits of nail, melt scars - stuff they might have driven over and got stuck in the wheels

Re: A Gaze of Mork- An Ork Blog (Epic and 40k)

    Hi,

I totally get what your saying about the wheels. I did 'humm and harr' over gritting them up, but after I did that with my space wolves and the sand scraped off into my gaming case I decided against in. A case of practicality over aesthetics unfortunatly. Though I might add some nails/plastic card bitz, thank you for those ideas

Between today and tomorrow I want to get my Epic army up to 3000pts. To do this I decided to add 12 flak wagons and a Gargant. I decided having Flakk wagons will provide some anti-aircraft as well as some modelling variety. Rather than paying for the GW/FW Flakk wagons I decided to convert the wagons I already have lying around using various orky bitz and pieces.

Here are pictures of how Froggaz Flakk Parade is coming along:
