    The mountains of the dead

    Hello all!

For those who have followed my empire plog you will know that I have been keeping some vampire counts units as reward projects

My aim with this log is to keep it better documented and to keep the empire stuff in the empire plog and the VC stuff in this log

Ive also found that the logs add a nice boost to morale amd generally keep me invested in the hobby so I hope this plog will achieve that same effect as my other ones have And tbh its the people commenting who achieve that so I owe it all to you guys

Anyway il start by showing the things that I already have painted (sadly not much) and list some things that I have in the pipeline!

First up ive added pictures of my finished cairn wraiths. They sadly wont be included in my armies but the models were just so cool! They were also pretty easy to paint whilst giving off a chilly vibe.

My next project (currently only basecoated, basecoat not shown in picture) is a Varghulf.

Ive also bought a box of skeleton warriors and the finecast wight king. The wight king model is gorgious!

All of these things wont be converted however so il end this post by listing some of the things that I DO want to convert!

I want to make my general a lvl 4 necromancer. Either Kemmler or a unnamed lvl 4 with black periapt with master of the dead. For the model however I have something special in mind. I want to make him a lich! How exactly im going to achieve this I dont know yet. Ive got something in mind to take a cairn wraith and "lichify" him Il do some research first if its possible though!

I also want to include a unit of 6 Crypt horrors to my force. I kinda hate their background though so have got something special in mind. I will be making zombified versions of other creatures! I will at least be doing a few trolls. For the other 3 ive got my eyes set on either ogres, rat ogres etc. Havent completly worked that one out yet...

Zombies. I aim to add zombies from at least 3 or 4 armies. I already have an empire body and (currently) wont be using a fair share of the bits that I have! Conversions will be added regardless but ive got my eye set on the island of blood set as well. It offers so much! Would give me plenty of rank and file zombies. It would offer the ratogres to be converted into Crpyt horrors. I could convert the swordsmasters into grave guards. The gryphon I could convert into an Abyssal terror (with some conversion work mind...) Etc. So many possibilities!

Blood knights. I dont know about everyone else but I sure as hell want a unit of these! I wont be paying the finecast price though! Why would I when I can convert them from multiple armies?

Since its 3 am here il be going to bed now but il make sure to update this plog regulary! As soon as my latest empire project (5 greatswords left) is complete il start work on the Varghulf!

    Till next time

    First update

I have since my last post re-assembloed my Varghulf. I dont know what went wrong in the prior construction but it dident fit onto a base. Ive taken him apart, put him back together and painted him and he looks much better

I have added some pictures. Sadly my Iphone's camera hates me with a passion and I cant get anything more detailed worked out I still have the base to complete though so will have to come back to that

Thank you It was dwarf flesh over a tallarn flesh coat. I washed it with a Baal Red wash to get a blood drawn look. I think it came out looking like I expected

My next project is a unit of skeletons btw! My tale of x gamers project (10 knights) has to be done in 2 weeks time, after that il start on these chaps

Nice looking Angst-Bat Demo! It'll be interesting to see how you pull off all those projects you have planned.

Re: The mountains of the dead

    Yay update time again

Dident have so much luck with the goody 2 shoes army last saturday so its time to work on my evil 'taking candy from a baby' vampire count army! Bwahahaha

*shrugs* uhm....well, ive assembled the first 10 of my 20 skeleton warriors (pictures down below) and I intend to use them as a bunker for a necromancer (either lvl 2 or the lvl 4 lich...) but I started to wonder. Would spears be any good for them? With hand weapons and shields they live longer but since you can raise new models back anyway....what would that accomplish? That said I do think the hand weapons look alot cooler

Anyone have an opinion on this? I might make a unit with spears for raising porpuses (you can raise a unit with spears right? it doesent cost anything to give them spears... )

Re: The mountains of the dead

When I was writing a Vampires list and asked around the shop I was told hand weapons and shields were the way to go. I can't remember if you can raise them with spears (but I doubt it), you'd best read the spell description.

Re: The mountains of the dead

    Thanks Armos

I just re-read the raise dead spell Astra. It says the summoned unit doesent have any upgrades or command models

There goes that idea... How about 2 small units instead of 1 big one then? I dont think that sending your necrobunker into combat is a good idea to begin with

I'm not 100% on that idea, Skellies aren't the best at fighting and small units could just get ground down into a fine powder.

Re: The mountains of the dead

    Fine, crush my dreams

But your right after all... With WS2 and an otherwise normal "human" statline theyre not the best of fighters.... Then again they dont cost alot either! And at 5 points a fear causing unit is pretty decently costed I think

For my other bunker I had a unit of zombies in mind but to be fair im not to keen on that idea anymore. Theyre even worse fighters then skeletons and even at almost half their cost im not sure theyre worth it. Il be making them as a project anyway but holy smokes... WS1, always strike last they need alot of (spell)boosting not to suck...

Re: The mountains of the dead

Take spears if you want, it's your army not mine dude! Yeah, zombies.... people usually say not to take them but I have some because I like the models (and I can use them for necromancy spells). However zombie units can be increased past their starting number so stick a necro behind them and maybe it might work.

Re: The mountains of the dead

Well skeletons can be raised beyond starting as well with the right upgrade

But y ea, they will mostly be used for raising porpuses.....

Guess what the next project is btw? I bought the island of blood for it

    -edit-
Ive also finished the last 10 skeletons The unit is a necromancer bunker. Not sure if I should make the unit bigger then 20 men(er..skeletons) later or keep them at 20?

It might be smart to make at least ten more. Good work on them though, they're so intricate!

Re: The mountains of the dead

For now il keep the unit size at 20 Mostly because thats my reward project at the moment. Perhaps il make more skeletons later (as I want to use a unit of 40 at 2500 pts and have spares for summoning...)

For now though il give you guys a taste of what colour scheme im making these guys

Argh! I didn't know Diablo 3 was due today! I've probably missed my chance at getting a collector's edition. Shame, I love getting the art books and unusual pets, my Orc Hunter is regularly followed around by a mini Thor from Starcraft 2!
Good work on those skeletons Demo!
