alien/predator themed army ideas?

As its been easter and nothings open iv had very little to do and was thinking about doing either an "alien" movie themed tyranid army or a "predator" movie themed army(thinking either something along the lines of a loganwing list).
Was looking for ideas, especially on what models to use to represent thingss and which book to best represent the army idea.

First my thoughts.........

Aliens- OBVIOUSLY tyranids-swarm list (either warriors with rending claws or hormagaunts converting the heads to look smooth domed style ala the films.

Predators- As small model count as possible idealy with few to no vehicles (unless a possible "corporation presence", hence wolfwing but possibly using striking scorpions and using units of 3+ as a "hunting pack"(great for variety of weaponary and possibly plasma pistols as the predators cannons) and lone wolves with wolves(using kroot hounds) as the "dog handler predators" or possible a kroot heavy tau list as groups of young bloods learning to hunt with hounds and use the stealth suits as the fully fledged predators with their plasma casters (but they seem a less likely idea as weak in cc).

But im looking for suggestions as this is more of a modelling project im not too worried about the list all too much but the models need to be as least based on gw ones so i could use them in a shop to play (and yea i have a hasslefree predator model which is a lovely although a lil small model).

This could also be a necromunda gang for predator esque spyers but its more for a 40k army scale im thinking.

Alien themed Tyranids is definitely going to be the easiest of the two.

Predators don't really field 'armies' in this way, do they? They seem to be largely reclusive and only jet around in small groups.

As a Spyrer gang in Necromunda, or in a kill-team-like game where each model operates individually, you could have a go.

Stealth and extreme hitting power seem to be the way predators work. If anything, I'd say harlequins work best... although the lack of long-range weaponry is a bit of a quandry.

That should help you out with the Aliens. And I've got a picture here somewhere of a great conversion some one did of a team of Stealth Suits, one of which with the likeness of a Predator. A stealth suit Tau army might work for that...

Dude, it isn't even that hard. Just buy Genestealers, their Implant Attack Heads already look like the origional Aliens' heads (not as elongated though), and Xenomorphs=Genestealers. Have you read the fluff for them? That's what originally inspired them.

Predators though, you're sort of screwed. Maybe GK could work, as you can have a number of powerful individuals, and the assassins work well too.

Concerning Predators, I think that Eldar rangers + scorpions + Karandras might fit. This way you've got the whole "stealth" thing, long range firepower and close combat power as well. And you would have your HQ, troops & elite.

The Kroot have a strong predator vibe imo, so a kroot-heavy Tau list (with stealth suits and crisis suits being the "elite" hunters) could also work. Unfortunately, the kroot themselves don't have too many options - maybe the new codex would give them more (like pulse carbine-like krootguns).

Wow, cheers guys, theres some great info here alone off you few that replied, the pic of the stealth team iv seen before and copied one or two of them a while ago, i was actually thinking of kill teams for the predator and i use a stau stealth suit team personally.

May have to use some scorpions as predators as a malcadon necromunda gang, id only need 1 box to max out the gang aswell with minimal conversions (removing the pistols and swords and add wrist blades and a shoulder cannon possibly).

I think i, probably gonna have to make a stealer kill team all converted up to look "alien" esque and go from there, maybe some facehuggers/eggs as rippers,but the scale of the tyranid warriors is more "aliens" imo but the infiltrate/outflank thing 'stealers do makes a lot more sense.

A friend of mine is doing an alien themed tyranid army. I believe he is using mostly 2nd edition hormagaunts with a few altercations. His 2nd edition carnifex has an altered head so it is more in line with the "aliens" heads. The army looks very cool so far.

You can also use genestealers with the alternative heads offered from maxmini and chapterhouse studios, they are sculpted to look like aliens.

Yea, the chapterhouse studio ones look very similar but if im honest they dont look right to me and i know with some green stuff i could do a much better job sculpting a smooth domed head, i just think using genestealers as generic "aliens" seems a bit lack luster nowadays as they dont have assault grenades anymore and id either want to have a swarm of hundreds of them or a smaller more elite army to show their generic strength and speed like say warriors would.
Think i may end up doing a small kill team or some test models, but i do like the idea of a predator kill team aswell.

with the predators why not do a kill team or use the movie marine rules?

The kill team for predators would work well i think, id probably use stealth team rules as i can fit 6 in with 2 fusion blasters and maybe use striking scorpions as a base for them, movie marine rules noone would play against here sadly and i dont see predators really getting such a great armour save, hence looking at wolfwing cos i could use power armour wolf guard as troops rather than terminator armour, its a pity theres no craft world army lists anymore as an all scorpion army would be very cool and not much conversion work needed.

Upon looking into more of the "types" of aliens in the franchise i could possibly do hormagaunts/genestealers as the generic drone or " domed" aliens u see in the films and then for those that have played any avp games may know the "praetorian aliens" which are similar in style to the queen but on a slightly smaller scale could be tyranid warriors or tyrant guards depending on what i use to represent the queen and then the queen as maybe a tyrant or trygon or even the swarmlord?

The other thing im trying to work out if possibly using gargoyles and zoanthroaps other units and finding a representation (or wouldnt it really be needed aslong as it fits the same style?).

Dude, just use a draigowing army with squads of one paladin. They each are their own unit and operate independantly. 875 points gets you draigo and 6 paladins with mastercrafted warding stave and psybolt ammunition.

Sadly i dont see terminator armour and the invunerable save as a stealthy thing (i can see what people mean when you look at harlequins as the shadow seer helps sto "spot" them, similar to the tau stealth teams), but that may just be me, i think ill end up going for a xenomorph army as its seems a lot easier, and keep the predator idea to a kill team.
Maybe something like a 10 man veteran squad with sly marbo and equipment and points willing and do them as arnies squad in the first predator film and use marbo as the predator himself (especially as the suprise appearance thingy he does) and possibly harker with his big heavy bolter as blane and "ol' painless", anyone got any suggestions on equipment and such to make a decent guard veteran kill team to fit the bill there?

On the subject of Predators I believe the closest thing in 40k is Striking Scorpions for Eldar. Especially the way the Karandras model looks. If they had some long range capabilities in their squads they would be the perfect fit in my opinion.

Predators are readily available, but ruleswise, I can't really help, exccept maybe Tau Stealth/Battle-suits...

Yea i know those predator models, i have 3 of them, but you can only pose 1 model so many ways and at about £12 each it will make gw prices look like a poundland (or wallmart for any americans on here).

Thinking of the units id include in a "xenomorph" themed army....
Queen (either a tyrant or tervigon-depending on what i use as drones)
Commander Alien (warrior prime)
Drones/praetorians-either warrors,genestealers or hormagaunts (thoughts guys?)
Runner Aliens (hormagaunts or stealers depending on drones)
Facehuggers(rippers, the only easy decision here imo)
Defender Alien (hive guard)

Also may be a predator or 2 as either a normal lictor or the death leaper (especially with hit and run and its other special rules)
Or is this complicated etc? i mean id use the models and rules just slightly converted (ie dome the head and possibly filling an arm socket or two).
