Honestly, I hope they pull a Beastmen with DA, if they are to be the last 5th ed codex. BM were considered terrible in 7th, but are actually pretty awesome in 8th. Basically what I'm saying is I hope codec design for 6th edition 40k follows armybook design from WFB 8th
Proudly Band-Wagon Jumping since 2000
So all the HS slots to be useless, and a lot of other choices that are never seen?
Perhaps GW will do as they did with 8ed Wfb: drop 6ed, release a couple of books then wait a while before bringing anything else out. This gives everyone a chance to see how things work, and the designers a good idea on how to improve future releases. Well thats my theory anyways.

Either a hell of a lot of stuff is going to get released in a very short period of time or the timing is off. It pretty certain that chaos/ dark angels and 6th edition are all ready to role one will be in may but it a real roluet wheel which one will be first. I guess we've only got a week to wait before any pre orders would go up for a may release.
If the starter comes with Dark Angels vs Chaos, then I would assume that we see the starter before we see either Codex. Sells more models that way.

Sorry,
I have to step in. I thought this thread would die on its own, but it looks like its just taking on a life of its own.
No C: DA before 6th.
Apologies for letting everyone get revved up so long. But it's just not happening, and I can't sit idle and let everyone suffer.
My best guess is early to mid 2013. I don't see it any sooner.

Sounds like it only will be time for 1 codex release this year then which is a bit dissapointing and unexpected. If 6th ed vill be around july and chaos will be around the autumn spot meaning september-november there just ain't time. Unless they release chaos early after 6th ed and cram in another codex as november/december release.
I was expecting one codex release to be out in these two quarters and one in the last two quarters and 6th ed in the middle of those.

So going by the other rumors, the rest of the year looks like this?
May: Necron Wave
June: Fantasy Wave (Tomb Kings?)
July: 40K 6th book
August: Fantasy warriors of Chaos
September: 40K Starter
October: Codex: Legions
November: Hobbit
December: Holiday goodies

I guess I've been out of the rumor loop, I thought Chaos was before 6th?
Given how 8th edition fantasy worked out in its release year, I'm not terribly surprised, nor am I surprised that the front-loaded this year with fantasy, given that majority of attention towards mid year will be on 6th.. The early LOTR stuff was a surprise, however, its pretty likely at the end of the year (eating one of the traditional release slots).
Really, its hard to be disappointed, either. Beastmen preceding the 8th edition fantasy release got a lot of bad reactions, as have a lot of other 'just before the next edition releases. Long term, its probably for the best if they take more time with a codex releases around an edition change. It allows for a more consistent direction and planning around where to set the bar, rather than change gears like they did during 5th.

Nice shark, pretty shark.
While I can't say I'm surprised just how little 40k stuff is being released this year it is extremely disapointing. It's the 25th year anniversary and we only get two major 40k releases? Such a downer.
I have to agree, one codex in 2012? That is horribal. I don't think there has been only one codex release in a year... Since the creation of codecies. That is just sad.
Speculated two releases. One of which is a new edition. It's still too early to know what GW has up their sleeves, I doubt they'll disappoint us.

We have heard that Chaos is the first 6th Edition book, and Tau are the first book of 2013. so it may be that Chaos are considered MEQ for the release schedule. CSM in say Oct, then next year would be what, Tau, DA, Eldar?

Figures. Oh well... this will give me more time to finish my fully gothed out Deathwing squads with bitz chopped from the old metal models.
Just to throw another stickmonkey wrench into the schedule, isn't GW planning another limited edition game this year? Or is that every two years now (Space Hulk in 2009, Dreadfleet in 2011), making The Hobbit count as the new game for 2012?
Anyway, I agree that this isn't shaping up to be the best 25th 40k anniversary year for releases. When new players realize the DA codex is underdog, it will kill off any buzz the starter box generates for the army.![]()

Bah, that's a shame. So what do you expect will be coming out before 6th? Just model releases?
"Irregardless" isn't a word[/petpeeve]
Regardless, I do agree with the rest of your post. If GW uses this time to catch up on waves that have fallen behind, then I'm all for it.
