    The Cron Old Guard

Fellow warriors and lords, greetings. Emerging from the depths of space, countless ruined cities and decimated planets come the Old Guard. The Old Guard have been on this crusade since the beggining of time and will comtinue untill its ending, for they are immortal. Many a warrior has known the pain of loss and defeat. The anger at an enemy who has defied them. And all have vowed to arise and continue this fight again.

First a little background. I used to play Blood Angels several years back until I got to busy and otherwise consumed with life to continue. Fast forward and here we are with another army, another war to wage and many a conversion to be had. Im going for an aged worn core of veterans here that know what it means to do battle and to fall and rise again. So far all I have are several boxs of warriors that are being converted to Immortals. This is taking a little longer than I thought it would but Im pleased with the progress so far. Let me know what you think of the work so far, stay close for updates and never be worried about hurting my feelings or suggesting something different. I want something that you wont see on the next table over and so far Im using the conversions to achieve that so if you have ideas fire away.

Thanks for looking. May you find your foe, destroy him and if you fall... rise again.

Seeing as you are working with warriors for your Immortal's, you have done very well for the conversion. I really like the chopped jaws on the heads as well. Will be interesting to see a fully finished and model.

Pretty good so far. I'm assuming your main force will be Immortals?

Green- thanks man the conversions are both fun and frustrating at times. Removing the lower jaw makes them look a little meaner than your stock necron and Im excited to see what a full squad looks like.
Tyrantis- Thanks man. Yah IM looking at mostly if not all immortals for troops. I like the 3+ and the heavier hitting weapons. Maybe a lone warrior squad of 20 to veil around and cause chaos.
Still looking for ideas to make other units looked aged and worn, vehicles mostly.

I'm assuming that the painting is not finished?
Interesting idea although I have to question why you would do this with brand new Immortals models to use with better weapons options!

Maybe you could theme them as a Triarch force (they never went into stasis) who have had bad luck finding functioning Tomb Worlds for repairs, so converting some Triarch Preatorians from old Pariahs and Triarch Stalkers from whatever. They could even be the forces of The Silent King himself who journeyed outside of the galaxy, found Tyranids and came back to warn the other Necrons. You could make a conversion of him as your masterpeice!

Awesome background stuff Chris! Im going to have to read up on Necron fluff a bit seeing as how I knew none of that. I like the idea of an army that never entered stasis, gives a good reason for wires hanging out and improv limbs here and there.

The paint isnt finished in the photos, Im trying to get some good light to take some more of the finished job (still not happy with the bases).
Basically I bought two boxes of warriors for this project and picked up ten tesla rifles on Ebay for cheap so Ill come out with just the right number of guns for two squads. Maybe Ill invest in some more tesla for a third ten man, who knows. So basically price and the fact I wanted an older looking force without all the new jazz and gear so converting warriors works out well.

OK, try and get some updates in here. The camera really made the paint look sickly but it looks pretty good. Five Immortals down five more in the works. Not happy with the bases so those will probably get redone. Let me know what you think.

Ive done a wash in the low areas and over the tan shoulder pads, only one coat but it darkened up the recessed areas nicely. How many coats of wash do you normally hit your guys with and do you use it on all the surfaces or just in the low area? Pictures are welcome, always open to learning new tricks.

Just wanted to put up some pics of my Harbinger of despair with veil generator on his back. Really just a converted skaven but I like it, some things Id do different like greenstuff the hands but hindsights always 20/20. Anyway, hes about 90% just needs touch ups.

I think that you need to use Necron bits on that. At least for the head and weapon head, which should be the easiest bits to get since all the new sets have spares of these.

Um, yah its got a necron head... Possible hand conversion for the pointing one but I like the staff hes carrying too much to change it out.

First off I hate cameras, they show everything you missed and point out a bunch of touch ups you need to do. Anyways... Heres my first squad with incomplete bases and a little TLC needed.

If you have any thoughts feel free to share them. Im always up to try modifying things and have a few thoughts on the immortal conversions Id do different next time, like GS the shoulder pad gaps...

Let see if I cant breathe some life back into this. Just got done (finished the bottom edge of the base after pictures) with my Overlord that came from the command barge. Did some repositioning of the legs and modified his scythe a little bit, oh yah and hes holding up his latest prize. Hope you enjoy, C&C are always welcome.

I really like the warriors. The lower jaw removed works quite well. Im not so sold on that look with the engineer body due to size, and the neck area being much thicker.

Thanks for the compliment on the warrior conversions. In your opinion if the neck were shaped to look like a normal necron neck would that be good or is he just overall too short for your taste in the army?

    Re: The Cron Old Guard

He might feel a bit short in general but if you maybe made the neck area look as if the cryptek was more hunched with a less thick neck area would cover the difference a bit more without making him look like a giraffe lol

Well its been soem slow going but everything is taking shape. Unfortunately I cant sit still and only work on one thing so I have deathmarks, tesla immortals, a stalker, and a CCB going. Should of focused and got one done but I have too many ideas bouncing around my head. If you guys have any input for me on the deathmarks (I know photo isnt very good) Id appreciate it. Right now they are warrior legs with vampite count torsos, prat heads and deathmark weapons.
