    (WOTR) Introduction game

    Hi.

I'm going to try to learn the game to a friend of mine who have not played miniature games before.

anyone have any recommendation for point level? Should I exclude magic?

I would also appreciate advice on two balanced army list that will make for a fun and interesting game.

    My army's.

    Gondor:

    Heroes:
    Gandalf
    Aragon
    Boromir
    Faramir
    King of the dead.
    + captains

    Companies:
    12 C. Womt.
    12 C. Komt.
    6 C. Aomt
    3 C. rangers
    2 C. avanger bolt thrower.
5 C. army of the dead.

    Harad:

    Heroes:
    9 Nazgul.
    Sulladan.(?)
    + captain

    Companies:
    9 C. warriors of Harad.
    4 C. Corsairs Arbalesters.
    2 Mumaks.

Any advice for point level. and army lists that will be fun against each other? I think I want to include 1 Mumak as It is big and cool, and I don't think my Harad have a chance without one with my model collection.

If it were me I would keep it simple. 500-750 is a good points value with a mix of infantry, bows and cavalry, and only 1 epic hero. which will allow your friend to learn how each works. I would avoid magic on the first game as (from experience) it really slows things down for beginners with no warhammer experience - you can always add 1 magic user in second or third game and add to the army size as well as banners and captains.

One of the last battles I did on my blog was an intro battle, but that was to a huge 40k player - good luck!

my intro game to WotR was pretty fun. I'll go over the lists from what i can remember. Not sure if there was really a points totals and stuff.

    Gondor

    Boromir

    4 Comp WoMT w/ captain

2 companies of citadel guard. w/captain

    3 com MT Archers

3 comp of knights of dol amroth w/ banner and captain

    1 trebuchet

    Mordor

    winged Nazghul

6 companies of morranon orcs w/ captain and taskmaster

4 companies of orcs w/ bows

2 companies of black guard w/ captain

    2 companies of morgul knights

    Mordor troll

That was a fun battle and pretty much covered everything possible.

    Thanks for your replies.

I think I will try out around 750 points without magic.

    How about these lists?

    Gondor.

    Boromir
4 Comp. warriors of Minas Tirith
4 Comp. warriors of Minas Tirith
6 Comp. Knights of Minas Tirith
3 Comp. Archers of Minas Tirith
    2 Comp. avanger bolt throwers.

    Harad.
    Suladān the serpent lord.
    6 Comp. Haradrim warband.
3 Comp. Haradrim warband with bows.
    4 Comp. Corsair Arbalesters.
    War mūmak of Harad.

Will these list make for a fair battle?

shouldn't imagine why not. Think it would be pretty cool. I wouldn't mind fighting it XD I'm still learning, only played 2 games of WotR myself so still got lots of learning to do. Just can't decide on what i want to collect either. So many good ideas. . . .

Edit: Just had a thought, the Mumak has some pretty long winded and complicated rules. You sure about using it?

Yes I am a little unsure about using the Mumak.
I don't think the rules are to complicated, but I do believe it will be the focus point in the battle, that will decide victory or loss.
But My fallen realm list don't have any cavalry, so I think it will be very boring game without it.

This is true :P I've still yet to see a mumak in a game myself. From what i've seen they either do really really well or are useless. But hopefully your game goes well and they enjoy themselves My first WotR army is likely to be harad cause my local toy store still has some of the 24 man boxes in there for just under 20.

The old 24 boxes are really great compared to the new ones.

    Played the game last night.

It worked out fine, the Mumak where the focus of the battle. (as it should in 750 points)
It's a complicated game for someone not having seen a miniature game before, so it took a long time.
But I think he got the gist of how the game works, and the possibilities and tactics in choosing army and such. Being able to build and design army's is what kept me interested in miniature games since I was 12.
