    Re: Fun with a WWP

dropping 1 beastmaster and the 2 flocks that go with him from each BM unit nets you almost enough pts for a 3rd rav w/ ff

swaping the warriors to a trueborn unit but as

Trueborn x 4 w/ 2 cannons and 2 carbines in a venom w/ 2 cannons would net you the remaining points needed

Actually just dropping the beastmasters and flocks gives me more than enough points for the Ravager, and allowed me to give my Warriors squad a blaster (I had 16 extra points left). Is there any better way to spend those 15 points?

And should I give one of my ravagers disintegrator cannons? Or have I got enough to take out the tough footsloggers with my assault units?

    Cheers

    Re: Fun with a WWP

Get rid of Sliscus - only 2 units (the Wyches) will benefit from his combat drugs roll, and buffing regular Warriors with 3+ poison is a waste. Baron has much better synergy with WWP lists:

    1) The +1 to 1st turn gives you a much better chance of getting the WWPs activated before their transports get shot down.
    2) He can bounce from unit to unit to give it Stealth, something that will be very important as you have a lot of foot lists with poor armour, so will be relying on cover saves until you're in combat
    3) He's rather good at taking on rear Av10 vehicles on his own.

    Also, he's cheaper than Sliscus.

Only other suggestion would be to take more Khymerae. As you have a lack of vehicles (obviously), anti-tank fire will be directed straight at the Beastmasters. You need to do anything possible to ensure that instant death hits do not go anywhere near the Razorwing Flocks, which means you need more models to allocate those hits on to. Single-shot weapons aren't too bad, but the moment a S6+ large blast lands on the unit you will lose a LOT of flocks unless you can allocate away the wounds.

The Duke allows for DS though. With a decent reserve roll (and this is not a tactic to seriously bank on at all) you could in theory DS the WWP anywhere you want on the board T1.

Except reserves only arrive from turn 2 onwards.

    Re: Fun with a WWP

To circumvent the risk of deep striking late or even scattering badly the other wwp deployer would start on the table. Use 1 portal deployer to drop their wwp on turn 1 and the other can deepstrike - problem really is if there are any left over units still in reserve when the deepstriking wwp deployer arrives.

I have no problem with dropping 1 wwp on the first turn and a 2nd one later but really the 2nd portal is either going to be placed to support the first (as a back up) or it is placed in a different location because the dynamics of where you need the remaining squads will be needed. In this instance, hoping they do not scatter so they can drop a portal where you want it is not an ideal situation (30% of getting where you want them, 60% chance they will scatter on average 7" in a random direction).

Basically the purpose of the beastmasters is to ONLY go through the webway. And with their beast rule they pretty can get into combat as soon as they arrive most times (providing that the webway has been put far enough ahead. Either way they have a long assault range.

It is possible to up the Khymerae to 7,7 and 6 in each of the squads but only if I drop the Warrior squad down to 5 and put them in a Venom (they will still have the blaster). This way they can zip around taking pot shots at any vehicles or walkers that walk to close to the objective that I have them sitting on. Or should I drop the blaster for that extra khymerae?

It almost doesn't seem worth getting the extra khymerae because I have to add another beastmaster and still only get two out of a potential 5 khymerae per beastmaster.

    Thoughts?

Ok have rejigged the list after a bit of thought.

Figured the Baron needed a bit of a hand and so dropped a beast squad and the warriors and added a eleven man squad of helions with heliarch w/ stunclaw and upped the remaining two beast squads to ten khymerae. Easier to see in list form so see below:

    HQ:
    The Baron

    2x Haemonculi
    2x WWP, 2x Liquifier

    TROOPS:
    4x Wracks
    w/ Venom

    4x Wracks
    w/ Venom

    9x Wyches +1x Hekatrix
2x Razorflail & Shardnet, Haywire Grenades, Agoniser

    9x Wyches +1x Hekatrix
2x Razorflail & Shardnet, Haywire Grenades, Agoniser

    12x Helion squad
    1x Heliarch w/ stunclaw

    FAST:
    4x Beastmasters
    10x Khymerae
    4x Razorwing Flock

    4x Beastmasters
    10x Khymerae
    4x Razorwing Flock

    HEAVY:
    1x Ravager w/ Flickerfield

Much better. Your vehicles are going to take a lot of anti-tank firepower as there's only 5 targets, so position them well and pray/cheat (it's the DE way!) to get your reserves in on turn 2.

If you want to be really clever, you can siphon off pain tokens from the Haemie/Wrack units as things come through the WWP portal. I'll leave that one for you to work out

BTW, Baron does work quite well in a Beast squad. You just need to remember to detach him in the movement phase if you think you'll need the 12" charge range of the beasts.
