    Contradictary Rules?

After browsing my Empire book, it shows that Marius Lietdorf's Averland Runefang and Marius's hand weapon count as paired weapons, am I correct in assuming this does nothing since he is mounted?

Furthermore, giving Demigryph knights a halberd reduces their AS in CC to 2+ rather than 1+, correct?

Marius Lietdorf is a character so it is possible to dismount him during the game so the paired weapon rule actually give you 1 extra attack when he got dismounted. Yeah, the halberd those Demigryph knights used are just standard halberd like in the rule book => required two hand => you won't have 1+ armor save in CC. On the other hand, you will always have S5 atk.

Actually Extra hand weapons prevent you from getting the Extra attack rule while mounted. The rules for Paired weapons is under magic weapons and it has no such restrictions.

The magic weapon effect "Paired weapons" isn't the same as "additional hand weapon"... both takes up two hands and give you +1 attack, but paired weapons do not have the "models on foot only" clause.

Ah thanks for the info, don't have my rulebook on me at the moment.

@besbin, it is impossible to dismount Lietdorf, his unit type is Cavalry.

A game where he dismounts when he enters a building, I believe.
1222. It's a stranglehold. Not an Ogryn neck pinch.
1395. Eldar really hate it when you greet them with "Live long and prosper".
1537. My Rogue Trader does not need to announce his arrival with eight hours of orbital bombardment.
1572. The Navigator has Warp Sight. Not Insane-o-Vision.
1594. Flak armor is not just a muscle shirt with the word "ARMOR" stenciled on it.

As others have already answered, paired weapons are different from additionnal hand weapon and does work when mounted

Halberds take 2 hands, so you only get 2+ in close combat.

However you still get to use the shield against spells and ranged attacks, so for those you would still have a 1+ armor save.

If I recall correctly, Cavalry can assault an occupied building by dismounting but unfortunately they cannot garrison a unit into the building but they can still push a unit out.

    Re: Contradictary Rules?

It's a pretty specific situation but yeah, cav that assault buildings have to dismount and lose their save bonus. It only applies for that assault. But thankfully it doesn't matter much because the paired weapon loophole allows you to use it when mounted.

Models riding monsters don't have to dismount, which is weird. I guess monsters can make their own entrance.
    ... and then I won.
